Points for promotion

Middlesbrough and Birmingham are on form at the moment,

on another subject people need to keep their feet on the ground, we're only in January and we've still got tough away days like Leeds, Blackburn, Burnley, Nottingham Forest, Wigan & Birmingham to come, we haven't rapped the league up yet!

Theres keeping your feet on the ground and then theres predicting the form team in tge championship will win 1 of the next 6. Think you could let yourself be a bit more positive than that

Its deja vu, january 2013, some people never learn.

The second half of the season is always much tougher, teams at the bottom start scrapping for points. There are no easy games from here, keep filbert way as a fortress and pick up anything on the road is a job well done.

I do feel sorry for some of you guys, four points clear, scoring goals for fun, team changes that work and all some do is whine and whinge about if it go's wrong. Not saying we are or will be champions or even go up in the autos, we do have a great chance of doing so and if we don't make the playoffs from here Pearson is gone. Sod ARRY and QPR they have to catch us.

5 points clear of the supposedly best team in this league who are meant to win the title by 30 points with their prem outfit yeah f**king right! lol  we are up there on merit the players want to destroy this mother f**king league. Believe you pessimistic bastards.

Cardiff: 34 points from their last 21 games

Hull: 31 from 21

Boro: 12 from 21

Palace: 28 from 21

Us: 27 from 21

Watford: 37 from 22

All of the top 6 had much worse form in the second half of the season, and it was only because nobody else managed to put a decent run together that the status quo was more or less maintained.

As good as it looks now, we can still fvck it up,

I think it's pointless comparing it to previous seasons because it's clear it's not an ordinary table. Three sides are on course for over 90 points - which would've won the league last year.

I'm pretty sure after 15 games I remember reading us, Burnley and QPR were all on course for over 100 lol

Middlesbrough at home and Bournemouth away are very big games for building up an advantage - if Sheff Weds beat Macclesfield in their replay (SURELY?) then QPR won't be playing on the 25th. Burnley were due to play Bolton who are now playing Cardiff in the cup. If we win our next two we'll be at least seven points clear and I firmly believe that games in hand aren't the advantage they're made out to be.

Bournemouth's big because QPR play Burnley. You'd fancy a draw from that.

QPR concern me no more than Burnley to be honest. They've got some very decent players but they're hardly the world beaters they're made out to be. The majority of their side wouldn't get into ours at the minute.

Just remember we were so many points clear this time last year sitting in second and had a very nice set of fixtures coming up and look how that one panned out, if we get through Feb on this form then i think this will be our year.

Interesting read this thread

The league/points totals do have similarities to the 2012/2013 campaign

Its going to take a fantastic run from one of the playoff teams to risk our top 2 spot. It pains me to say but Forest do look the most likely side to do that, however they are so far behind us at the minute that it looks unlikely they will catch us

Its worth breaking in down into months - I did a few predictions (but massively aired on the side of caution)

Jan

1 more point from Boro or Birm

Feb

4 points

March

10 points

April

8 points

May (1 game)

3 points

That gives us 26 points from the 20 game we have left - totally 83 point which i think will be enough to get at least 2nd spot

Burnley/QPR would need more than 30 points in the last 20 games to hit 83 – possible

Forest/Derby/Reading would need to average nearly 2 points per game to hit 83 points – Unlikely but possible

It does look very positive

Thoughts?

* i do think we'll do a lot better than 26 points however

They're not an advantage, us having played a game more and getting the 3 points is an advantage to us BUT if you expect all 3 teams to get 90 points then you also have to expect QPR & Burnley to win their games in hand.

I don't believe in doing this as you should just look at the table game by game but I'm morbidly interested.

Just been looking at the table from the same point in previous seasons, right back to 1995/96.

I really shouldn't have done and I wouldn't advise anyone else to do this.

Terrifying to think this would be the biggest bottle job of all time if we don't make it now. There are only a handful of teams who had managed the same number of points as we have at this stage of the season (e.g. Fayed's Fulham, the 106-point Reading team and the Pompey side that finished above us when we had Muzzy, Dickov, Matt Elliott and co).

In 1990/91, West Ham had 57 points from 26 games like we have at the moment. They then won 8, drew 6 and lost 6 and ended up with 87 points to finish second. Doesn't mean anything for us but gives you an idea of the kind of slump we can afford I suppose. We can win 8 and draw 6 of our last 20, surely...

I reckon 9 and a few draws

Possibly but with our goal difference it is considerably more than our nearest challengers QPR and Burnley, so that in effect is like an extra 3 points.

So I would say 8 wins.

33 more points, which will consist of 9 wins and 6 draws. Think 93 points will win the league, but definitely promotion. We've 9 home games left which, on this form are all winnable, but realistically, we'll cock up in one and not have the run of the luck in another couple, so home, I'm going for 6 wins, 2 draws and a defeat. (hoping it's not QPR). Away, 10 games left, 3 victories, 4 draws and 3 defeats.

Weren't we relegated with the highest points before? I think this year we're gonna be promoted with the highest points, better than Readings season

That record belongs to Peterborough last year, with 54 points.

Having a big lead at the top, whilst rivals have games in hand, brings its own challenges. Seeing your lead eaten away as those teams win their games in hand can really add pressure for players and management. I feel ten wins will see us over the line. And we have 9 home games left. Now is the time to learn from previous years and stay positive. We can't draw our way to promotion. have to stay focussed on winning. We've had endless threads about whether crowds impact performance, but as fans we need to keep our nerve, too. Anxiety from the stands can find its way onto the pitch and into players minds. We can afford to go WLWLWL all the way to the end of the season and still make it, so let's just all keep the party atmosphere going and cheer these boys home.

Superior GD effectively an extra 3 points?! Nah, I'm not having that.
