Mark 'expert' Lawrenson Posted 26 January 2014 Posted 26 January 2014 90 should normally be enough, meaning Burnley need another 39 or 40 points from 20 games, but they are capable of winning 12 and drawing 4 of those remaing 20, Burnley do have to play a lot of the top half sides at home yet, bar QPR. I would think 93 points gets us up for sure.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 26 January 2014 Posted 26 January 2014 The goal difference argument annoys me. By definition, for it to count then two teams will have got more points than us from this stage onwards, and the goal difference situation could be better or worse by the end anyway.
Mark 'expert' Lawrenson Posted 26 January 2014 Posted 26 January 2014 Adding to my previous text Burnley would hope to win their home games but they have to play Brighton Forest Derby Leeds Us Boro Wigan and Ipswich all at home so not making winning these a foregone conclusion, so this puts pressure on them to win away from home.
Alexikokopops Posted 26 January 2014 Posted 26 January 2014 Possibly but with our goal difference it is considerably more than our nearest challengers QPR and Burnley, so that in effect is like an extra 3 points. So I would say 8 wins. Hahaha, what???
The Doctor Posted 26 January 2014 Posted 26 January 2014 Possibly but with our goal difference it is considerably more than our nearest challengers QPR and Burnley, so that in effect is like an extra 3 points. So I would say 8 wins. You're a tool - an extra point perhaps, since it could separate us from them if we finish level, but an extra three points? Not a chance.
Happy Fox Posted 26 January 2014 Posted 26 January 2014 You're a tool - an extra point perhaps, since it could separate us from them if we finish level, but an extra three points? Not a chance. Bit harsh, think about it QPR will need to score 7 goals to level our goal difference that isn't going to take them one game to do so. Yes Points are the main thing and secondly goals scored, we have both going towards us.
Webbo Posted 26 January 2014 Posted 26 January 2014 You're a tool - an extra point perhaps, since it could separate us from them if we finish level, but an extra three points? Not a chance. We'd have to lose some games for QPR to catch up which would reduce our GD.
RAFRUDY Posted 26 January 2014 Posted 26 January 2014 I reckon this season, we will need 93 points to guarantee promotion, going to be a tough old fight till the end of the season. I just want burnley to slip up and widen the gap.
Carl the Llama Posted 26 January 2014 Posted 26 January 2014 Bit harsh, think about it QPR will need to score 7 goals to level our goal difference that isn't going to take them one game to do so. Yes Points are the main thing and secondly goals scored, we have both going towards us. We all see what you were trying to say, but the fact is that if a team's even 1 point above us on closing day then GD won't mean a thing. Superior GD's worth a point, nothing more.
ithuriel Posted 26 January 2014 Posted 26 January 2014 Personally I think 9 wins would do it now but it does not matter, the team and Pearson will just go on like some championship wrecking machine collecting wins against teams that pop up at the KP like Lemmings to feed nom nom
The Man In Black Posted 27 January 2014 Posted 27 January 2014 I predict we will gain 30 more points this season taking our tally to 90pts. First or second I'll take it. Birmingham - D B'mouth - W Watford - W Forest - L Ipswich - W Charlton - W Wigan - L Barnsley - D Blackpool - W Blackburn - L Yeovil - W Burnley - D Sheff Weds - W Brighton - D Reading - L QPR - D Bolton - L Huddersfield - D Doncaster - W
Steven Posted 27 January 2014 Posted 27 January 2014 I predict we will gain 30 more points this season taking our tally to 90pts. First or second I'll take it. My worry would be that we could end up in third place.
lgfualol Posted 27 January 2014 Posted 27 January 2014 Predictions should be banned on here, they make me nervous.
Simmo86 Posted 27 January 2014 Posted 27 January 2014 My worry would be that we could end up in third place. With 90 points? Not a chance. One of the chasing pack will have to going on an unbelievable run for that to happen. 85/86 points for 2nd place
hackneyfox Posted 27 January 2014 Posted 27 January 2014 If Qpr & Burnley continue amassing points as they have up until now they'll end up on 92 & 90.
Simmo86 Posted 27 January 2014 Posted 27 January 2014 If Qpr & Burnley continue amassing points as they have up until now they'll end up on 92 & 90. QPR might, don't think Burnley will. 4 wins since October for them
qwerty123 Posted 27 January 2014 Posted 27 January 2014 After38.com worth a look. Make predictions based on form etc They predict we'll hit 92 points. Qpr to finish second with 84
Harry - LCFC Posted 27 January 2014 Posted 27 January 2014 The lack of intelligence really is beyond belief at times. 19 games left, a 9 point gap (kind of) and promotion is 'certain' according to some. I blame the commentators. Jason Bourne asking if it was a case of "when not if" for us after the Boro game and got upset when I insulted him for being thick.
Steven Posted 27 January 2014 Posted 27 January 2014 If Qpr & Burnley continue amassing points as they have up until now they'll end up on 92 & 90. That is why I think we need 93.
Harry - LCFC Posted 27 January 2014 Posted 27 January 2014 Just can't see Burnley sustaining it. They're the most vulnerable of the top three IMO with their lack of depth and will fall away I think even if it's only slightly. I'd imagine 85-90 points would be enough.
Soar Fox Posted 27 January 2014 Posted 27 January 2014 QPR might, don't think Burnley will. 4 wins since October for them But they are still only 9 points off us with a game in hand. It's silly how a team who has won 7 in a row can be only slightly ahead of a team that have won 4 in 3 months.

They're the most vulnerable of the top three IMO with their lack of depth and will fall away I think even if it's only slightly. I'd imagine 85-90 points would be enough. That might be true, but it is safer to think that both Burnley and QPR will get as many points per game as they have done thus far.
Happy Fox Posted 27 January 2014 Posted 27 January 2014 We are in a good place most of this pessimistic shit is born out because of our supposed collapse last year in which truth be told Cardiff were the only team who pretty much averaged automatic promotion form, the rest including us where playoff candidates and that is where we finished. I do believe we are certainties for automatic promotion a collapse like last season very unlikely would still put us in a good shout for automatic promotion believe you bastards!
Harry - LCFC Posted 27 January 2014 Posted 27 January 2014 That might be true, but it is safer to think that both Burnley and QPR will get as many points per game as they have done thus far. What do you mean safer? I wasn't suggesting for a moment the team take their foot off the gas because I think Burnley won't get 90 points. The approach is always to maximise the number of points you get, always. It's only the last few games of the season where the opposition's position might affect your game plan e.g. Forest and Bolton last season.
