Points for promotion

I'm not volunteering to do the math, but i wonder if the top teams statistically struggle to replicate their first half of the season form in the second half, as they come up against teams scrapping for their lives. That said, I suppose, there must be some teams we'll play with little to play for come early April.

I'll carry on arguing with myself on this one....

Agree, with pretty much the whole bottom half in the relegation mix in the last 10-15 games most of them find an extra 10%.

Bearing in mind we have lost to Sheffield Wednesday/Charlton and Donny, there are for sure going to be some strange twists and turns ahead of us. If we can restrict the number of further Losses to say 4, Win 10 and Draw the other 7, we should make it!

But 5pts from the last 5 games (as predicted above) will have us slashing our wrists!

Wow!!! It really is VERY exciting! I'm gonna be honest, I was getting to thinking I'd never see City play in the Prem again in my lifetime! lol

I still think QPR will end up winning the league especially when Arry goes out and signs yet another fookin striker. but I now believe we are good enough for second.

What I'd like to see is one more good, known, experienced signing to come straight in if we pick up an injury to a key player.

The beauty of this season thus far is our lack of draws. If we continue our attacking play we may lose more than 4, but we might win more than 10, too. There are no games that we are not good enough to win, even though, as we know, we will produce a few sub standard performances over the coming weeks.

Agreed, however it works two ways. In our first play off season under Pearson, we won our last 5 games of the season, including comfortable home victories against QPR, Watford and Middlesbrough who were mid table and had absolutely nothing to play for.

Last season we had Bolton, Palace, Watford and Forest who were all battling for the play offs or autos whilst playing Barnsley not too long before that. It definitely does make a difference but everybody will be in the same boat I suppose.

You think we are going to win 1 of the next 6 games?

Middlesbrough and Birmingham are on form at the moment,

on another subject people need to keep their feet on the ground, we're only in January and we've still got tough away days like Leeds, Blackburn, Burnley, Nottingham Forest, Wigan & Birmingham to come, we haven't rapped the league up yet!

Posted

There needs to be a big reality check here.

First as it stands at the moment it really looks like 92+ points may be required so we need to aim at winning at least 13 more games and that might do it.

It is worth noting the remaining games for each of the top 3 against sides currently in the top half of the table. All of us have to play 10 of the top 12 sides and we have the worst run against them.

Burnley play 7 at home and 3 away.

QPR  play 6 at home and 4 away

We have to play 7 away and only 3 at home.

This makes it imperative that we win our home games against sides in the bottom half of the table.

I haven't looked at Forest or Derby but I'm not ruling them out at all and Wigan look to be building a strong run which will I think see them make the play offs at least.

I also don't see any reason that Burnley will fall away, we are just as likely and have the track record to prove it. QPR will but a couple of players in January and I see them winning the league. Burnley just don't seem to lose. We have a tiny advantage at the moment. Do we have the players with the bottle to get across the line? I hope so but I'm not convinced.

37 points to come i think, taking us 91.

can't see us losing at home to QPR or losing 3-0 to Bolton or 2-0 to Birmingham  That said did not expect Sheff Wed or Charlton or Doncaster to beat us.  We need 11 wins and not lose to Burnley or Qpr

On the flip side, we seem to lose against the lower league teams away, our record against the top teams away is actually half decent.

Would also be amazed if anything more than 90pts wasn't enough to get promoted.

We'll be fine, just enjoy the ride! :scarf:

There is a difference between arrogance and having confidence in your ability... At the minute, we're on form and I've just read a recently published article where De Laet said that confidence in the squad is high. This is good.

Although I'm still realistic, as I mentioned in the other thread I'm treating our position as I would if we were in any other position, I'm also quietly confident when watching the side. I said on the previous page that 10 wins might do it, as it would push us around the 80 point mark. I'm not saying we're going to go out and win these 10 games, all I was doing was suggesting what I think may be required.

Look, we've got some tough games coming up. Elland Road and St Andrews are never easy to visit, Middlesbrough are on form and improving while the whole of February looks like a big test, but we're currently top and if we want to stay top and win promotion then there's no reason why we shouldn't go into these games with no fear. I've been impressed with our play recently, but I'm also realistic as I mentioned.

I've just looked down the fixture list, and selected 6 games where I think we should be winning no problem. But this is football. It changes. Did I think we'd win at Watford? No. Did I think we'd win at QPR? No. But, on the other hand, did I think we'd lose at Doncaster? No. Did I think we'd lose to Nottingham Forest? No. That's the beauty of football, I just hope we can ride it and win this bloody league. It's about time.

I have 88 points in mind for our target.

I think QPR and Burnely will stick around for a while yet or make a late surge if they fall behind and we will need higher than average to get promoted

We are in the driving seat but as well as we have played so far, we are only 2 losses away from being back to 3rd if QPR and Burnley went on a run of wins

I am confident but also know that strange things happen in football and everything can quickly change so lets just hope we just keep this form up and so far, so good!

Form in the last 12 games, anything close to this would be very welcome.

we're only 5 points ahead of 3rd - 2 wins difference. And its QPR, our lead is hardly insurmountable. Agree however, that it's more likely we do it than not, but I'm never confident with City

Posted

I am not saying we will they will.

Watching the game friday night with 2 QPR fans They reckon we will piss this and they are going to struggle.

From what they said and I have seen on there forums most are not happy.

Arry can get in five more strikers if he wants unless they change the way they play it won't matter.

They reckon it's the most boring football they have ever seen as he sends them out set up not to concede.

If they manage to score it's a bonus they were loving our game and watching a team take the game to the opposition.

But we have to keep going this year could be a record year if not a very high points total will be needed for automatic promotion.

Posted

Burnley have been very fortunate with injuries, likewise us....as the season goes on it will take its toll and just cannot see Burnley with there squad being good enough to get over the line.

Posted

The key is to still be right in the mix come the Ipswich game. I think up until then we have a tricky period...4 away in the next 6 & Watford will always be tricky so if we come out of that little run with at least 63-67 points we'll be in a strong position.

Ipswich - Yeovil at Home is a decent run on paper and if we get in the 63-67 range then this run of fixtures should take us near the 80 mark and then we would probably get over the line with confidence.

Birmingham & Bournamouth away are big games..win at least 1 of them and we'll really look like we could kick on.

Posted

After the Derby match there's a lot of optimism around.

I believe that there is sufficient ability and confidence in the squad to achieve promotion.  However, there's along way to go and both QPR and Burnley are there if we have a few poor results, so I still want to take this one game at a time.

My gut feeling is that we'll need 90 points, I hope it's less....
