foxfanazer Posted 12 May 2014 Posted 12 May 2014 Apart from Terry and Lampard who were already senior pros as such at Chelsea, Ashley Cole was brought in as a senior pro and all three were England regulars by the time Mourinho came in.. I know this is an England World Cup thread but Mourinho hasn't really got a great record at coaching young English footballers, Glen Johnson, Joe Cole and SWP all went there with big hopes and none of them went on to become world class footballers or good England footballers, yeah they won trophies but they never developed as footballers. Just a Mourinho thought.. I agree with all of your examples there apart from one. I think he had a very positive impact on Joe Cole. Took a lot of his showboating out of him and made him a very good winger.
Wycombe Fox Posted 12 May 2014 Posted 12 May 2014 Looking forward to seeing - Lallana, Shaw, Sterling, Barkley, Oxlade-Chamberlain and Sturridge Not looking forward to seeing - Jones (Pants1), Smalling (Pants2), Carrick (Boring), Gerrard (Part of the South Africa 2010 debacle and bored with 'same old same old') and Lampard (as Gerrard + too old) And Stuart Pearce shouldn't be in charge of the remote control to the telly let alone a football team. He should do alright at Forest then (and when I say alright, I mean he'll take them down to League 1 hopefully)
Grandad. Posted 12 May 2014 Posted 12 May 2014 If Leon Osman can get a call up, Mark Noble deserves one sometime. Very underrated player he is, just won West Ham's Supporters Player Of The Year & Players Player Of The Year Leon Osman getting a cap was meh, there was just no point to it but Mark Noble? Jesus Christ we are England, not Scotland or Wales, saying that I don't think Mark Noble would get in the Wales side. Kingfox mate, don't know if you said him on the wind up but he is not a good footballer, a poor Scott Parker (minus all the London clubs he's transferred too) in my eyes, just billed as some die hard player who gives you 110% every single game, will never leave West Ham and will never be a good footballer.
Finnegan Posted 12 May 2014 Posted 12 May 2014 Mark Noble wouldn't get in the Wales side... until everyone withdrew through "injury."

I've always liked Mark Noble though, in my opinion he deserves at least a call up before he get's too old, Osman got one and he isn't the greatest footballer out there. Maybe Noble is a poor Scott Parker, but take Parker for instance about 3 years ago, people were calling for him to be made England captain, and was probably one of England's better players. When we played West Ham in the Championship, Mark Noble both times against us was a class above, he will never pull up any trees, but I think he is vastly underrated.

That's the worrying thing though, class above in the Championship but since West Ham have been back in the Premier League can you name a time where he was a stand out player against the top sides? Scott Parker somehow did at times play well against the better sides, Noble has never done that, just a steady 6 or 7 out of 10, never anything more unless he's scored a penalty. Times gone for Noble, especially in midfield for once where we aren't looking to weak. Rather Shelvey called up ahead of Noble.

Grandad. Posted 12 May 2014 Posted 12 May 2014 Stuart Pearce has just compared to Luke Shaw going to the World Cup the same as when Sven took Theo Walcott?
kingfox Posted 12 May 2014 Posted 12 May 2014 Saying Mark Noble should be called up to the World Cup was a bit on the jokey side, but he deserves at least one call up maybe for a friendly in his career. Osman got a call up, Mark Noble should get one later down the line. Anyway, when will Will Hughes get a senior call up

Dan Posted 12 May 2014 Posted 12 May 2014 Flanagan has mate, played at right back quite a bit under Kenny. Dan LCFC is Wilshire definitely not going? That seems to be the consensus, I'm not sure though.

AjcW Posted 12 May 2014 Posted 12 May 2014 Carrick left out too. Suppose not too much of a shock, starting to think a few more Man Utd names might not make it
AKCJ Posted 12 May 2014 Posted 12 May 2014 Stuart Pearce has just compared to Luke Shaw going to the World Cup the same as when Sven took Theo Walcott? IMO it's not as cut and dried as you're making it out. I don't think Shaw is going to be playing ahead of Baines and neither are known for their defending prowess. I think it might be a mistake to not take Cole, who I think is (or was) the best defender that Roy had available. Shaw is only 18 and will, without a doubt, get his chances and will probably end up as the next Gareth Bale. I agree that it's nothing like the Walcott case though and, because I believe that Shaw is such a good prospect and probably our best crosser, I won't have any complaints if he's on the plane. I think that Cole's omission signals that we're going to go out and attack teams for once though, which is something to be excited about in terms of entertainment...but will it get results? Time will tell.

The cut and dry of it is, you take the inform players to a World Cup and not players who have been sat on a bench all season, Shaw deserves his place on the plane, just like Sterling and Barkley do, they have no experience of major tournaments and they don't have a great amount of caps but there is no question of their places.
Leicesterpool Posted 12 May 2014 Posted 12 May 2014 I'm surprised Ash Cole not going, of course he hasn't played much for Chelsea this season but I thought that would be a good thing in some ways meaning he would kinda be fresh for the world cup. I didn't expect him to be first choice ahead of Shaw but he would have been an good experienced back up. Plus Carrick not going either, I can understand that one... a little bit overrated for me.
emmo1987 Posted 12 May 2014 Posted 12 May 2014 Finally an England manager picking players that are playing and on form, instead of names. Cole has been brilliant over the years but there is no point in him heading out as back up, Roy did this with Ferdinand in the last tournament.
Leicesterpool Posted 12 May 2014 Posted 12 May 2014 Got a horrible feeling Smalling and Cleverley are going I somehow don't think we'll see any surprises!
foxfanazer Posted 12 May 2014 Posted 12 May 2014 If Smalling goes it will be an absolute joke! Awful footballer

AKCJ Posted 12 May 2014 Posted 12 May 2014 Why is Hodgson announcing the squad at a car factory in Luton? Surely he should be doing this at Wembley?
foxes_rule1978 Posted 12 May 2014 Posted 12 May 2014 Why is Hodgson announcing the squad at a car factory in Luton? Surely he should be doing this at Wembley? Cutting costs...
Jon the Hat Posted 12 May 2014 Posted 12 May 2014 Why is Hodgson announcing the squad at a car factory in Luton? Surely he should be doing this at Wembley? Who care? If it makes the sponsors happy it makes sod all difference to anyone watching on TV.
