Absolutely gutted he won't be playing for England again. Like Chris Gayle has just said, people need to learn to start managing the big players. Don't know the full ins and outs of what's gone on of course but I'm gutted it's over for him.

I'm trying to look at this embarrasment of a tour in the way they it'll give us a massive overhaul, we can come back more positive and learn from our mistakes, let's be honest couldn't be alot worse in future could it?

CKB Posted 4 February 2014 Posted 4 February 2014 Disappointed he's retired but I called it along with Flower leaving and Cook stepping down, 2 outta 3 so far! As for KP, he was no doubt a huge talent, a game changer and a top class batsman but lately he's not been any and with talk of rifts, fall outs, etc I guess the time to retire was now.. Some of the shots he's played lately have been criminal but I guess that's the KP way and he wasn't gonna change that... He will be missed but every team eventually has to rebuild and now it's England's time...

That may be the case but they've not exactly been well behaved either. With Trott uncertain of his future, Bell could go, KP gone and the second opener position not secured, the next coach has a hell of a job putting a competent top order together. Looks like Giles is the next man as I'm sure an outside coach would want Pietersen involved.

We just didn't have anyone that could replace him during a period where we were awesome. Now we've lost Flower and had a disastrous winter series they've got absolutely nothing to lose now.

He gets out to stupid shots, never guts it out when we are trying to save a test. Not a team player. And when the selectors are probably going to rebuild the side with younger players do we really need K P in the dressing room undermining everything? It's over, move on.

I agree with Michael Vaughan's recent comments that it would be a pity if England cannot accommodate a player capable of transforming a test within a few hours. I'll miss his mercurial batting - over 8000 runs in tests - (frustrating though at times), his fielding and occasional bowling. Even during the recent tour he scored the most runs.

Captain... Posted 5 February 2014 Posted 5 February 2014 Madness from the ECB, reminds me of Shteve's treatment of Beckham. Why make such a big deal out of it? Surely first you appoint a head coach, then you let him assess the squad and personalities, give them a chance to talk with the likes of KP, Prior, Trott, Cook, then you select the best team for the next match. If KP isn't in that team, then fair enough, don't offer him a central contract, that's fine, he's not got much time left, you can make a commitment to bringing through younger players, but with so many question marks over the top 7 why create another void for the new head coach to fill? I know he ruffles a few feathers, but he is still one of the best batsmen in the country, it feels like he is being punished for who he is, not how he plays.
