chili_con_carne Posted 8 February 2014 Posted 8 February 2014 He is unlikely to accept anything other than a three year contract at least. Time after time he isn't performing well. I know he has scored a load this season but with the wages he is on I'm unsure I would offer him a bumper deal. Especially if we get promoted. I would offer him 2 years with reduced wages but would he accept? Not sure. A strange situation as he has been a good player but he has his good spells and very bad spells.
Bayfox Posted 8 February 2014 Posted 8 February 2014 1 year. If he wants a year in the top flight he'll take it. If he wants money. He won't.
MGLCFC Posted 8 February 2014 Posted 8 February 2014 Yes - would be useful as one of 4 main strikers in the Prem - Nugent, Vardy + 2 more as I don't think Wood will hack it at Prem level. However the +2 strikers may well be the first choice as I'm not sure Nuge and Vardy will be as effective as a front 2 as they are in the Championship.
shailen Posted 8 February 2014 Posted 8 February 2014 I really don't get why he isn't performing, is the ratings done on the number of goals he scores? Nugent is our best striker at the club, he has excellent control, vision and good pace. Remember football is a team game and it doesn't necessarily have to be the strikers that score the goals. Especially with the fluidity we play with the midfielders can be in the box and strikers back. He is a really intelligent player, and for a team with the second highest goals in the league, I don't understand why he is being criticized given that he has been an integral part of that statistic
Father Ted Posted 8 February 2014 Posted 8 February 2014 Honestly, no. Unfortunately, if we have aspirations of being a Premier League club then Nugent isn't good enough. Perhaps on a one year deal as a back up but he won't take that. Time to move on if we go up, transition has no friends.
DennisNedry Posted 8 February 2014 Posted 8 February 2014 Nugent has done OK in the prem before so I'd keep him, although he'd more likely be a squad player than a regular starter.
Happy Fox Posted 8 February 2014 Posted 8 February 2014 One year deal likewise with Dyer to see if they are up to scratch in the prem, their is no need for sentiment should we get promotion because we will bring in better players that is how it rolls.
Bert Posted 8 February 2014 Posted 8 February 2014 Yes. Think we'll offer him two years. He's been good for us and if we go up he deserves a crack at the prem with us for sure.
wight88 Posted 8 February 2014 Posted 8 February 2014 With the bottom prem side guaranteed 63 million can't understand the hoo haa about whether to give out an extra year or extra two years to an established player. What's the worst that could happen? Hardly comparable to giving out golden handcuffs to new unproven players that turn out to be total tossrags.
Kitchandro Posted 8 February 2014 Posted 8 February 2014 Terrible today. Lethargic as he's been too often this season and misses 2 sitters from 4 yards. The one at the end was fvcking disgraceful. Getting fed up with Nigel leaving him on and taking Vardy off regardless of the situation. It was clear we needed our strikers to show for the ball, work his arse off and make dangerous runs. This is not Nugent.
ousefox Posted 8 February 2014 Posted 8 February 2014 1 year. Bench player and see if he makes any impact. Not sure we'd play 2 upfront if we were in the prem too and I believe Vardy and Wood could have more of an impact at that level.
Stadt Posted 8 February 2014 Posted 8 February 2014 On vastly reduced terms, yes. If we were to go up we'd need two quality strikers
TheUltimateWinner Posted 8 February 2014 Posted 8 February 2014 Jesus christ why are we all so fickle. He was nominated for player of the month in January... how long ago was that?! Sure, I'd offer him a new deal, he is detrimental to our promotion chances and if we go up he would play a large part.

Raj Posted 8 February 2014 Posted 8 February 2014 No way. Vardy has the pace to trouble a few premier defenders...nugent doesn't even have the pace

Find myself agreeing wholeheartedly with a few of your posts tonight but this one especially. Have you seen him try and run? He looks like he's putting so much effort in and really trying to sprint, but it's like he's running through treacle. He just doesn't seem to get anywhere. Not quite sure why he more often than not he manages to stay on ahead of Vardy, but today he definitely needed taking off. At half time would have been preferable!

He will be just as good in the Premiership. If we keep this team together we will cause the Premiership teams some trouble going forward. The two players I think wont cut it are the fan favourites Morgan (quite bad today) and Kasper (even worse today). I think we need a CB and a GK with better positioning. In attack we are great. DeLaet is an excellent player and Moore will be in the future, but I feel we can do better than Morgan and Kasper. We know now that if anyone signs a new deal now, it will be for less money. Maybe if they wait to see if we go up, they can get an improved deal.
Kinowe Soorie Posted 8 February 2014 Posted 8 February 2014 Not clinical enough for me in front of the goal. Won't cut the mustard in the Prem.
dog_4 Posted 8 February 2014 Posted 8 February 2014 time for Chris wood at somepoint! He scored 22 goals last season at the age of 21! Nugent hasn't hit 20 in his entire career! Plus we play football on the deck now, Which woody Thrives on!
broughtonblue Posted 8 February 2014 Posted 8 February 2014 Not even read any replies on this thread. My answer is YES

He had his back to goal and tried to swivel and shoot in one movement while under pressure from defenders and very nearly succeeded. How the frig is that a sitter? It wouldn't have even been half a chance for most strikers in the league. The header he missed (I presume that is what you are referring to) was from a cross that was too high for him. He did well to even connect with the ball. Both he and Vardy were feeding off scraps for the whole game. What a clueless post.
