Happy Fox Posted 20 May 2014 Posted 20 May 2014 He's an improvement on Dyer but not sure if he's a big enough step up and sounds as if he's lacking pace. He is a good enough winger for us, if we are aspiring to finish somewhere 12th-16th. He is 24 now so I think he has got some potential to improve, and as a free agent are we going to get a better winger, we need to splash the cash on a striker, so that is where the majority of out transfer kitty will go.
goose2010 Posted 20 May 2014 Posted 20 May 2014 Well take what you want from this I dont claim to be in the know or anything but what i have heard is its a done deal he had an offer from Sunderland and us and choose us because he doesn't want to relocate the wage reported is way off the mark it is an increase to his current wage but no way near that high he will sign on June 1st / 2nd. This has come from a close family member to Albrighton so I have no reason not to believe him. He also said how much of a mess Villa are in and will be lucky to keep hold of any of their 'stars' He said the Benteke injury may of actually helped Villa as clubs probably wont take the risk on him now for the money Villa say he is worth.
Happy Fox Posted 20 May 2014 Posted 20 May 2014 hn Percy â€@John__Percy 1m Marc Albrighton move to #lcfc virtually agreed. Schmeichel and Nugent expected to sign new contracts shortly. Talks with Pearson ongoing
Lionator Posted 20 May 2014 Posted 20 May 2014 On his day he's a very good player. Maybe Pearson can bring the best out of him in a way that Lambert couldn't.
Fox92 Posted 20 May 2014 Posted 20 May 2014 Always liked Albrighton and I agree he can be a dangerous player on his day. I don't like the talk of £30,000 a week but I guess we'll have to get used to that to attract 'Premier League players'.
leicesterlad1989 Posted 20 May 2014 Posted 20 May 2014 He's am improvement on Dyer footballing wise and at least has Premier League Experience. Different style to Dyer too but I would like to try sign a winger with a bit of pace. Definitely a Pearson type of player; still young and has potential. Hopefully we can see him hit consistant form here. As for wages, I don't agree with the amount footballers are paid anyway but as said above, we have to get used to it.
Bert Posted 20 May 2014 Posted 20 May 2014 I think we'll see the best of him. He's coming to a club that is on the up and has a very positive vibe about the place. Villa on the other hand are at the start of a downward spiral, the fans are miserable and constantly moaning at the minute and from what you see in the media it's a bit doom and gloom at the minute over there.

This. A few seasons ago Albrighton was absolutely flying for Villa but injuries and changes in management have seen him lose his way. He's got nearly 100 games of premiership experience at 24, with England youth caps and I think he was touted with an England call up during his rich vein of form for Villa. So we all know he has the potential but I reckon he just ends a spark reigniting with his form and he'll be back to his best - hopefully NP can do that. Anyway for free and within our wage cap and a decent young player it can't be too bad. My mate at school has a season ticket with Villa and has been relatively impressed with Albrighton since his return to Villa from Wigan in January. In his words he has equipped himself well enough to a struggling side. Like some of the other Villa fans he was gutted to lose him.

Until they are bought by a billionaire who pumps a lot of money into the club. Clubs like Villa and Leeds have massive potential, a new owner and the vibe will no doubt change at Villa Park. That said, until this happens we are a club with a much clearer vision. I think this would be a useful addition to the squad
JJS84 Posted 20 May 2014 Posted 20 May 2014 Maybe we should trust the manager (that some are saying may be the best we've ever had) and his scouting staff on this, if he has picked this player and believes he will improve the squad then maybe he will.
Unabomber Posted 20 May 2014 Posted 20 May 2014 I didn't want him for a start, but I think that a young right footed winger with premier league experience is something that we definitely need. I also trust Nige big time.

Apparently he had major confidence issues what bordered on depression during his injuries. I suppose Pearson and Walsh thinking is to get his confidence back and nurse him into someone who will work hard for City
artursteppe Posted 20 May 2014 Posted 20 May 2014 I think we should also remember that just maybe Nige and the incomparable assistant manager Stevie Walsh have seen something in Albrighton's style of play that could suit us better than it suits Aston Vanilla ( folk like to lick 'em ). It just may be that he is capable of fast incisive link play, which I believe will become our style more and more and which most emphatically is not the style of Villa. Lloyd Dyer was 'fleet of foot', but not the brain. Maybe Albrighton is the other way round
Babylon Posted 20 May 2014 Posted 20 May 2014 Not happy about this, seen him down Hinckley quite a lot with Villa reserves and he never stood out. We should be looking for better than rejects from what is possibly the worst Premier league side over the past 5 years that hasn't gone down. I'd imagine the team finishing 17th is the "worst team that hasn't gone down". Villa have finished 15th, 15th, 16th, 9th and 6th over the last 5 years. Our aim is to stay up, 15th or 16th will be considered a good season for us, where as Villa have delusions of being a premier league challenger.
Lambert09 Posted 20 May 2014 Posted 20 May 2014 This lad can cross a ball, for free im 100% excited for this signing. Very much reminds me of the when Routledge signed for Swansea for free when they were promoted. A player who had all the talent in the world but for some reason struggled to reach his limits..... we all know that turned out well for them.
Ric Flair Posted 20 May 2014 Posted 20 May 2014 I am struggling for negatives on this! A young British winger whose got a lethal cross on him, he's on a free transfer. Relatively local lad. I can see him fitting in here and offers us something different to Knockaert and Mahrez. I thought he was destined for an England call up 2-3 seasons ago so I hope we can get him back on track.

stox259 Posted 20 May 2014 Posted 20 May 2014 Seems like he is signing on July 1st. Villa fans seem a little annoyed he's being allowed to leave.
GLC Posted 20 May 2014 Posted 20 May 2014 Not confirmed yet, plus we have a thread in the transfer section
kingfox Posted 20 May 2014 Posted 20 May 2014 Not sure on this one, don't rate him personally, would prefer other wingers.
PAPA LAZAROU Posted 20 May 2014 Posted 20 May 2014 It's only speculation at the moment . I think people are getting a bit carried away with this potential signing. Lets wait and see if anything comes of it , after all we are being linked with just about everyone and nothing concrete has come out of the club on this player.

Nothing will come out from the club until they are signed, these threads are for speculation. When John Percy and a lot of west mids reporters are mentioning us, it's probably fair to assume there might be something in this one.
Alakagom Posted 20 May 2014 Posted 20 May 2014 As a Villa fan, Albrighton is a decent player. Good technically, very good crosser of ball which is somehow a unique trait in football now days :: He is bit lightweight though. Not ideal for EPL. And gets injured often which is why he never showed his full potential at Villa. A move away would be good for him I think to develop as a player. Only concerning thing about this transfer from your perspective is the wages. We offered him 30k wage and he rejected. And honestly, he's not worth such a wage at all. You'd be taking a big gamble with him and I honestly think you could invest it better ( as Villa nowadays is doing signing Dutch and Belgians on much lower wages than overpriced British counterparts) So overall, very big gamble at such wage, could pay off though , but very likely could not go well too.

Are you saying Vlaar and Benteke are on less than 30k a week?? Madness
thybluefox Posted 20 May 2014 Posted 20 May 2014 I really wouldn't assume the touted "£30k a week" is actually accurate.
