GingerrrFox Posted 21 May 2014 Posted 21 May 2014 Pretty sure there was an Asian Giant Hornet in my house and it scared the living shit out of me. I didn't even get chance to kill it because I was just stood staring at it like "WTF is that?" I've never seen a wasp/hornet/bee that size before it was massive, easily at least 4 inches long and the noise it made was horrible like a dull lawn mower. It stayed on the curtain for about 20 seconds when I saw it and then flew back out of the window. Anyone know if they have definitely come to the UK?
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 21 May 2014 Posted 21 May 2014 Not the first time GingerFox has been unnerved by a good four incher!
AKCJ Posted 21 May 2014 Posted 21 May 2014 I remember trapping a hornet under a vase as a kid. Was about the size of my hand (i'd have been about 10).
Jon the Hat Posted 21 May 2014 Posted 21 May 2014 No you dont get giant asian hornets in the UK. You are being spied on by the NSA.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 21 May 2014 Posted 21 May 2014 Asian Giant Hornets are about 2 inches long. Wood wasps are quite big and we do have them in this country, but they look quite different - longer and thinner.

I don't think it was a wood wasp, I've seen one before and this was nothing like that it was big and thick plus it was a typical hornet colour of bold yellow and black. It can't be a normal hornet as honestly it was about 2-3x the size of any I've seen before. It was freaky big.
GingerrrFox Posted 21 May 2014 Author Posted 21 May 2014 That's the ****er. You can hear the noise it's ****ing horrible. In fact judging by the match box I'm sure the one I saw was even bigger.
Danno Posted 21 May 2014 Posted 21 May 2014 Almost shat myself the other day, left the window open overnight and woke up with an absolutely huge wasp on my duvet.
Facecloth Posted 21 May 2014 Posted 21 May 2014 How do you know it was Asian? It couldn't pronounce it's L's properly.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 21 May 2014 Posted 21 May 2014 Tears at that Youtube video. "It's just...GORDON BENNET, ITS ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC!"
Stuliasz Posted 21 May 2014 Posted 21 May 2014 Wasps are my only real phobia, I think I've only ever seen a hornet when I travelled to Australia. The theory of stay still and they'll go away is a load of bollocks too, they are only out to get you or your beer. Sitting still just means they land on you or end up drowning in the amber nectar. Flapping like a madman seems to be the way to go based on my experience.
StanSP Posted 21 May 2014 Posted 21 May 2014 How do you know it was Asian? Racial profiling. Saw the eyes.
Sharpe's Fox Posted 21 May 2014 Posted 21 May 2014 How do you know it was Asian? It tried to sell him pirated DVD's.
Buzzell Posted 21 May 2014 Posted 21 May 2014 Racial profiling. Saw the eyes. Yeah you can tell by the eyes. Deffo Asian.
Jon the Hat Posted 21 May 2014 Posted 21 May 2014 That is a normal European Hornet. Maybe yours was a queen.
Vlad the Fox Posted 21 May 2014 Posted 21 May 2014 Is the Bee recession over now because I have seen so many this last week. About five nests in peoples eves, I never used to see them but this last year I've seen so many nests. Not many wasps though, maybe they're in a depression.
Steven Posted 21 May 2014 Posted 21 May 2014 That is a normal European Hornet. Maybe yours was a queen. Asian Giant Hornet European Hornet
