Tuna Posted 25 May 2014 Posted 25 May 2014 What happened to Hull and West Brom being interested in signing him?
XLM Posted 25 May 2014 Posted 25 May 2014 It's all about squad building. We need able players to turn up off the bench and have some impact; whether that be holding on to a narrow lead (Upson), or going for a goal (Albrighton and Campbell). Campbell fits the bill in this respect. Can easily pop up with a goal here and there, and that's all we need.
The Doctor Posted 25 May 2014 Posted 25 May 2014 Well, none of us are football managers so a neutral, expert opinion should presumably be of some interest to us. But for my part I don't think I need to 'admit' I was 'wrong about Nigel'. I certainly said that there would be a case to answer if he didn't get us into the play-offs in 2013, which was a reasonable point in that he had been gifted a very competitive budget and a 7th place finish would have been a failure. In the event he did get us into the play-offs and even on the day he went out I said he should stay. And if you go back to early 2012 when a lot of people wanted him out, I was quite outspoken in saying he should stay. So (whether or not your comments were aimed at me - it's quite possible that they weren't - aside) I think it's a sweeping statement to say that anyone who questions our signings, or our signing policy, is only doing so because they wish they had been right about Pearson being rubbish. The whole point of a forum is that we discuss matters, and in order to do that it's right that sensible opinions for and against are considered. On balance I'd say we're not doing anything wrong with our signings, but if you are confident that Hamer/Upson/Albrighton or even Campbell will represent an improvement on what we have (especially if Dyer/Nugent really are on their way) then I'd expect most unbiased, intelligent football fans to raise an eyebrow. I certainly wouldn't call pundits experts - the likes of Shearer and Young I'm happy to say I know more about football then them, as do the majority of this forum. My comments are aimed at the likes of cuddly ken, who is moaning about every signing and how we need to get rid of Pearson now - because he can't admit he was wrong. Oh, definitely - they aren't replacing schmeichel/Morgan/nugent but Logan, SSL, & Phillips - that is a strengthened squad, and as for Albrighton vs dyer - Albrighton has a better delivery from what I've seen, so yeah, I'd call that an improvement. If we were replacing schmeichel and Nugent with hamer and Campbell, I'd be worried, but these aren't starters
JayT - Always A Fox! Posted 25 May 2014 Posted 25 May 2014 Fair points made! What does this mean for Woods then? And GTF? I think Woods will be gone in Jan seeking FTF.
foxfanazer Posted 25 May 2014 Posted 25 May 2014 Fair points made! What does this mean for Woods then? And GTF? I think Woods will be gone in Jan seeking FTF. Who's Woods?
st albans fox Posted 25 May 2014 Posted 25 May 2014 My take would be simply this: what's his conversion rate of chances/goals. Out current strikers surely don't have the best numbers in this regard and at Prem level, this rate will dictate our season.
Happy Fox Posted 25 May 2014 Posted 25 May 2014 Albrighton is far better than Dyer doesn't take a genius to work that out. Hamer likewise with Logan as a back up goalie. Upson I think is on par with Wasyl but he is signed not as a replacement for anyone but merely to add to our CB options.
JayT - Always A Fox! Posted 25 May 2014 Posted 25 May 2014 Who's Woods? Haha I don't know why but I always seem to add the S? My overall opinion would be that Campbell would be a decent signing but if we could get somebody else in who adds something a bit different then we should maybe focus on bringing them to the club.

foxfanazer Posted 25 May 2014 Posted 25 May 2014 Vardy should be ahead of everyone in the pecking order imo. Think his style of play will suit the prem. Just needs to convert chances better
Candidcamera Posted 25 May 2014 Posted 25 May 2014 Vardy will be essential not just to staying up but for the future. He was the difference upfront last year had a brilliant season. We should extend his contract pronto before he hits the premiership with us.
LCCFox96 Posted 25 May 2014 Posted 25 May 2014 Vardy should be ahead of everyone in the pecking order imo. Think his style of play will suit the prem. Just needs to convert chances better This. Our summer dealings should be about signing an upgrade on Nugent to partner Vardy or a big target man the figure to play off him. Whoever comes in, whatever type of striker they are, the key thing is they need to play really well with Vardy. If Frazier Campbell is that man then so be it. He proved himself well enough last year. With Nuge (hopefully) still in and around the starting 11 we can always fall back to the successful Nuge/Vardy partnership from last year.
Happy Fox Posted 26 May 2014 Posted 26 May 2014 http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/27567914 Cardiff close in on Federico Macheda after Man Utd release Cardiff City are expected to sign former Manchester United striker Federico Macheda on a free transfer. The 22-year-old Italian striker is available after being released from Old Trafford. Cardiff manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer coached Macheda in the reserve side at United, before he broke into the Reds first team as a 17-year-old. Macheda spent last season on loan at Championship side Birmingham, scoring 10 goals in 18 appearances. The former Lazio youth player became an instant Old Trafford hero when he scored a stunning injury-time winner on his debut against Aston Villa in April 2009. But despite that early success, Macheda has struggled to claim a regular first-team place at Old Trafford in recent seasons and has spent time on loan in Germany with Stuttgart and in his native Italy with Sampdoria, plus spells with Queens Park Rangers and Doncaster Rovers. Macheda is set to be Solskjaer's third signing this summer, with the Bluebirds having already recruited Spanish striker Javi Guerra, 32, and Austrian midfielder Guido Burgstaller, 25. But Cardiff are playing down reports of a bid from Leicester City for striker Fraizer Campbell, with Solskjaer keen for the 26-year-old to remain at the Cardiff City stadium. Campbell, signed from Sunderland in January 2013 for £650,000, has a release clause in his contract following Cardiff's relegation from the Premier League. Seems like it could happen

RizLCFC Posted 26 May 2014 Posted 26 May 2014 Seems like it won't happen if they are playing it down, maybe we haven't made a bid.
LCFC FOX Posted 26 May 2014 Posted 26 May 2014 I'd take Macheda on a free. I'd also take Campbell for a couple of million at most. Any of these over 7 million Ulloa

Theoretically, Campbell could be ours regardless of what Cardiff think because he has a relegation release clause ( according to that article).
Fox Ulike Posted 26 May 2014 Posted 26 May 2014 Would be a bargain for £1m. According to wikipedia Hull once bid £7m for him.
AyewJoking Posted 26 May 2014 Posted 26 May 2014 Would be a bargain for £1m. According to wikipedia Hull once bid £7m for him. wasnt that the season he scored prolifically for them on loan in the championship and they perhaps over estimated his potential?
artursteppe Posted 26 May 2014 Posted 26 May 2014 I cannot help thinking that if Nugent signs a new contract we will not buy Campbell, but if Nugent goes, we will buy Capbell. Like for like! I just don't think we'd have both.
Babylon Posted 26 May 2014 Posted 26 May 2014 He's got Beckford mk 2 written all over him.His work rate and chasing is nothing like Beckford, his cost would be nothing like Beckford... In what way do you see it being another Beckford?
Fox Ulike Posted 26 May 2014 Posted 26 May 2014 wasnt that the season he scored prolifically for them on loan in the championship and they perhaps over estimated his potential? Yes possibly. Sunderland paid £3.5m for him though. So i still think £1m is a bargain for a 26 year old Premiership striker He's got Beckford mk 2 written all over him. No he hasn't. Campbell is another England one-cap wonder so would be great to partner him and David "scourge of Andorra" Nugent up front together!
