Fraizer Campbell

6 in 36 for a struggling Cardiff in the Prem isn't a bad return. If we're decent next year I could see him getting a good 8 or 9.

We play a certain brand of football. He would suit our style.....

Works hard got a turn of pace?

We missed vardy when he was out injured, didn't look the same side.

For 1m I would take him all day long?

His work rate and chasing is nothing like Beckford, his cost would be nothing like Beckford... In what way do you see it being another Beckford?

I have to say I've never particularly noted him as having an outstanding work ethic, but I take the point that it can't be as bad as Beckford's.

The problem with Beckford was never that he was completely shit (although at times I did wonder if he perhaps was), it was that we had to completely alter our style of play when he was playing to get the "best" out of him, constantly trying to hit high-risk passes in behind as he was useless with his back to goal.

We have a similar problem with Wood - we suffer as a team when he plays because we lose so much energy compared to when Vardy starts as the number 9, or even when compared with Nugent in the 8-10 games Nugent played that role in the season just gone.

You keep mentioning that his 6 goals is not bad for a striker in the bottom half of the league and I do see the merit in that point of view up to a point (in that we certainly don't need anything like a 20-goal-a-season man to be competitive) but let's not forget the following:

1) He scored 6 goals in 37 appearances (32 starts). Objectively that is not a good ratio and I would be very surprised if more than 2 or 3 other strikers in bottom half teams played as frequently as he did. If he is coming here to start 30+ games then I would be slightly concerned.

2) Campbell is 26 and has scored more than 10 goals in a season twice in his career - once being in Belgium and the latest occasion being 6 seasons ago.

I think he's had plenty of chances at Premier League level and shown time and again that he is not up to it.

Then again, Pearson's track record in the transfer market speaks for itself and he's got a level out of some players that most never thought possible. He'll know better than me.

Are you suggesting my view wasn't objective? I've not said he would be a good signing, what I did was compare his last season with all his peers.

Number of games played really weren't that much different to most of those I listed the other day, so objectively his ratio isn't much different.... Especially when you consider they were playing in better teams.

Jelavic keeps being brought up as the type of player we need and he's scored 7 and 4 in the last two seasons. Shane long 8 & 7 goals the last two years.

I take your point about his previous record. But the point about goals strikers get in the premier still stands, we're so used to expecting 20 goals from a striker it's not easy to switch the mentality to someone scoring 7/8 goals actually having a decent record in the bottom 10/12 in the prem.

Folk keep going on about Campbell, (and others mentioned in rumours), not having a good enough 'goals to games' ratio!!

You're gonna have to get real here people......20 goals a season strikers in the Premier League are a commodity restricted to the very elite...............If you think I'm wrong then look at the goalscorers chart for last season:

Liverpool of course have Suarez and Sturridge, who are both probably capable of potting the 'magic 20', while City have Aguero,Negredo and Dzeko who could, (though interestingly their top scorer in 13-14 was a midfielder)! Potentially Rooney/RvP could conceiveably net 20 for United...

Apart from that no-one else looks to have that 'magic' striker. Last season Arsenal, (Giroud), Everton, (Lukaku) and Spurs, (Adebayor), had top scorers who managed mid teens......Chelsea had one too, but he was Eden Hazard who's a midfielder, and thereby lies the truth!

If we're gonna make an impression at PL level, (and we will)... we, as supporters, will probably have to change our expectations. The way to go probably doesn't lie with a 'goal machine', it lies with the team playing to it's known strengths: (pace, work ethic, determination...) with goals coming from all over the park!

If there is any truth in the Cardoza rumours then, of course, I'd be delighted but...if not, then hard working players who can contribute a few goals,(eg Campbell) I'd be perfectly happy with.......................just so long as the 'prima donnas' stay well clear!

FFH,

Great response and post.

From the Merc:

City have also made a bid for Cardiff striker Fraizer Campbell, reported to be in the region of £1m.

The 26-year-old scored nine goals in 40 appearances for the Bluebirds this season but it was not enough to stop the Welsh side being relegated to the Championship.

Would be happy if this happened. Good signing who will do well for us if true. Cardiff are creating a strike force to be reckoned with to!! Macheda & Le Fondre in the championship could be lethal.

Posted

I would of loved it if le fondre came here to be honest. Always rated him

Why does he never start? Clearly has an eye for a goal but rarely started in the prem or champ for Reading. Strange one.

Think this one is seeming like the most viable option at the moment. Much lower risk than Ulloa!

Hmmmm yep im sure Pearson sees it as one of the other from them pair, one being about 4 ft 2 and fast with the other about 6ft and good in the air

Posted

so they've signed Macheda, Le Fondre and Grabban?

They must be offloading Campbell at this rate. Unless they're playing the 'fvck FFP' tactic.
