Rooney bashing, Barkley bumming, turning a blind eye to Gerrard, it has nothing to do with how theyve actually played, and whether you like them personally or not. Thats it.

It's time now to completely dismiss the likes of Gerrard, Lampard, even Rooney.

They have had their chance and have shown over and over and over that they are nothing more than average footballers, at international level.

Both the FA, the next England manager and the nation need to grow a pair and accept that we must build and develop the best young side we can. A side capable of playing together for years.

And we must accept that we aren't going to win anything, therefore, until it has had the time to develop.

We need a good young manager to flourish with his good young squad. New ideas, new ways of playing. Rules on Prem sides having to play home-grown players.

Ladies and gents, the last time we crashed out the group stage was in 1958! We literally are at rock bottom as a footballing nation.

Unless something really radical is done, I swear we'll be in the same situation in another ten years time, and another...

Not sure I agree with ditching Rooney yet Col but otherwise another good post as always from you. Gerrard was shocking tonight and should of been sent off anyway for a couple of over zealous tackles

I really do think this World Cup has come a bit too early for Barkley and maybe Sterling. But on the flip side I don't think there were many better options. Sterling has had a great season and deserved to be there but still has a lot to learn. But that'll come and he'll be a better player for it.

There's already a massive hype over Barkley, and some people are putting huge expectations on his shoulders. Similar to Sterling he still has a lot to learn. Very exciting when he gets the ball and runs at players but sometimes tries a bit too much for my liking. Again, that will come.

The future is certainly bright but that still can't hide my disappointment right now.

Your looking in a different Crystal ball to me mate.

The problem with England is that there's about a four- to five-year gap with missing players in their mid- to late twenties that bridge the gap between the old guard and the new ones coming through the ranks now. This team hasn't really had the chance to grow organically for a couple of years now. 2010 was one last big fluke with Lampard, Terry & Co.

I see this as a failure on behalf of the FA, the Premier League and the clubs in particular to nurture talent consistently.

Also, having English players play in the Premier League only somewhat prevents them from reaching their true potential. It's all soft and cuddly and comfortable when you're at home in an environment that you're used to - I remember a generation at Italia '90 and Sweden '92 with the likes of Lineker, Waddle and Gascoigne that learned a (huge) part of their trade abroad. Heck, even Peter Beardsley lived and played in Canada for a short while.

Normally listen to what you've got to say Alex but I switched off after the first line. Terrible comment, the 11 you put out has the square root of **** all to do with age.

Nah, Bert is spot on - you've got a lot of good young talent - Oxlade Chamberlain, Sterling, Sturridge, Barkley, Stones, Flanagan... This was just a world cup where you're midway through blooding them in and retiring the old guard. It's a team in transition, but the talent is there for them to progress and threaten at Euro 2016 or WC2018

It's not the age in particular that I'm referring to, I'm talking about the lack of consistency in nurturing and growing young talent.

I think one entire "football generation" (four to five years) has gone amiss for England for a while now, the change hasn't been organic enough, but comes with larger gaps in between that hinder the national side from fulfilling its true potential, unlike other bigger teams, such as Italy, Germany or even France now.

Their strategy is to introduce new, hungry and talented players on a regular basis whereas England usually hold back, wait and see for a few more years with the same line-up for most part.

But... comes Euro 2016, England might have finally gotten its act together. Some of the signs and youngsters in that Three Lions shirt are promising. Attack-wise, England look very intriguing. But Gerrard could use replacing, and you need to sort out the right-back position, as well.

Rooney's got to stay for at least two more years - he's got one more big tournament in him to show what he's really made of.

You seemed to of missed out the generation when we were any good.

It's all so sad. We've had bad luck,we,'re in the hardest group, we played teams in the worst possible order, we had chances to win both games and probably deserved a draw in both. Now all the Kias who love to revel in our failure will have a field day. Win, lose or draw I'm english and I'll always support England.

Did any of you realistically expect anything more from the game and the cup in general? As a neutral I just feel that you guys get over hyped and players over hyped as more people watch the EPL than any other league in the world.

Just to weigh in on the Rooney debate i thought he was probably your best player.

Again, i'm getting pissed now but Rooney was our best player tonight, if you ****ing slag him off again there's no hope.

Hendo and gerrard were rubbush, tactically mainly, not sure what Roy was thinking.

Nah, I'd go with that.

Johnson has been Slagged someting chronic on here, and he is still terrible, but was the best Liverpool player on the pitch by a mile.

Bar Suarez.

No doubt Lofty will be in here tell us Gerard was MOTM.
