Stadt Posted 19 June 2014 Posted 19 June 2014 If Hodgson gets the sack and they come after Pearson I'm gonna track down Greg Dyke and hit him with a snooker ball in a sock and put crisps and beans down the back of his shirt
Matt Posted 19 June 2014 Posted 19 June 2014 It hasn't, we seen positives in the performances of Cahill, Sterling and Barkley, it's not been a disaster, we've had the two hardest opening matches in living memory (no Tunisia, Trinidad or Algeria this time). It's been disappointing yes, disaster no. Yeah, we can get rid of Hodgson, good luck getting a much better English replacement. Is Uruguay really considered in 'two hardest opening match in living memory?' Fair enough Italy, and we played well against them. but Uruguay? And be honest we were poor. I can accept losing to Italy and playing well, but losing to Uruguay and not only losing but playing so poorly? No, no I cannot accept that. As for Hodgson, I'll support him, probably the best manager England have had since Sven, and at the end of the day even if we had the best manager in the world we wouldn't win anything, they've only got what they've got, the players are not good enough.
foxfanazer Posted 19 June 2014 Posted 19 June 2014 Genuine question, Was he playing? An honest question. (Obviously he was) I didn't notice him once. People question Rooney but I honestly didn't know Henderson was playing. I thought he did his and Gerrard's job quite well. Just my opinion of course. He broke up play and played decent passes that were in short supply tonight
Jimothy Posted 19 June 2014 Posted 19 June 2014 Wish people would stop pining after JT, it's over for him, just accept it. The biggest problem for England is behind Jagielka (31) and Cahill (28) there are no half decent centre backs aged between say 20 and 26 ready to take over. We have a real lack of strength there and nothing coming through to gives us hope. I see positives in the youth coming through in nearly all other areas, but not at centre back.
Vacamion Posted 19 June 2014 Posted 19 June 2014 FFS keep Woy in place. Who on earth would you replace him with?
Donut Posted 19 June 2014 Posted 19 June 2014 You have to be fair to Roy, he isnt taking us backwards, he took over at a tough time, got us through the group to get to the world cup and we have had a few moments in this world cup. He is giving youth a chance too. Its just that collectively, we are European also-rans, and he is getting as much out of us as he can. He took all the players we wanted to see, he played them in a system which we pretty much all agreed on, but our ability to manage games, our lack of world class talent like Pirlo, Suarez just for starters and individual poor performances have ended our world cup.
Corky Posted 19 June 2014 Posted 19 June 2014 Is Uruguay really considered in 'two hardest opening match in living memory?' Fair enough Italy, and we played well against them. but Uruguay? And be honest we were poor. I can accept losing to Italy and playing well, but losing to Uruguay and not only losing but playing so poorly? No, no I cannot accept that. For me, yes. In 2010 we had USA and Algeria, 2006 Paraguay and Trinidad, 2002 Sweden and Argentina (close) and 1998 Tunisia and Romania. Obviously 1994 we didn't qualify. Uruguay reached the semi finals in 2010 and won the last Copa America.

I wish people would stop talking about Uruguay as if they're some footballing super power. They have one world class player, two top quality players and that's it.
AKCJ Posted 19 June 2014 Posted 19 June 2014 FFS keep Woy in place. Who on earth would you replace him with? Hoddle.
kingfox Posted 19 June 2014 Posted 19 June 2014 Well what do fans expect, this team is very average, not great at all. The defence isn't good enough, Gary Cahill out of all the England defenders we have taken to the World Cup, probably deserves the most credit he performed ok, while he did well for Chelsea the season just gone. Baines & Jagielka I love them for Everton, they are very good club players, but as proven in this World Cup, they aren't great on the national stage, while at right-back we lack options, and always have to rely on Johnson, and despite setting up the goal tonight, I've never rated him. This team was full of players who were either past it, clearly not good enough or will be better in four years, i.e Barkley, Sterling & Henderson. Gerrard has been woeful in this World Cup, England's worst player for me, both games utter shit, hopefully this will be his last major tournament. Welbeck tonight, went back to being his old self, that being very average, while for me we didn't get Sterling in the game enough. People will bang on about not taking Ashley Cole, but at some stage we have to move forward, and for me Hodgson left one of the best English defenders this season in Jon Flanagan on the Standby list, I believe Jon Flanagan is the future of the England left-back position and not Luke Shaw. Central defence, Phil Jones & Chris Smalling have a long long way to go before showing their worth, other than that John Stones is next in line. Those options even possibly in four years, don't speak great volumes. Midfield, Wilshere is overrated for me, don't like him at all. Henderson worked hard tonight in my opinion, there were far worse performers than him at this World Cup for England; however Hodgson tactically got it all wrong this tournament, I would of seriously stuck three in midfield, and would of been brave and took Jake Livermore, who I thought had a fantastic season for Hull. Tbh even though he has had only a few minutes here and there, Adam Lallana hasn't impressed me one bit. Sturridge, Sterling, Oxlade-Chamberlain and Barkley in an attacking sense, is definitely the future, and in four years with more experience I expect them to do better, and be very very dangerous. Yes it has been poor, but tbh I think we are in a transition stage, where players are coming to an end of their international careers, while some are just starting and will only get better.

Stadt Posted 19 June 2014 Posted 19 June 2014 Is Caulker the long term CB option? He's looked okay in most games but he has not stood out as being a future international in my opinion.
Matt Posted 19 June 2014 Posted 19 June 2014 I thought he did his and Gerrard's job quite well. Just my opinion of course. He broke up play and played decent passes that were in short supply tonight Fair enough and you are more than welcome to your opinion. I was in a pub (meaning - poor view. meaning - drinking beer) so that may have been a factor but I honestly didn't notice him. Once.
The Horse's Mouth Posted 19 June 2014 Posted 19 June 2014 FFS keep Woy in place. Who on earth would you replace him with? somebody who isn't tactically inept.
indierich06 Posted 19 June 2014 Posted 19 June 2014 Get the next manager playing us the right way, push forward with the youngsters, drop the old deadwood, experiment and gamble a bit more, try new formations, make sure the lads leave the dressing room with a smile allow them to enjoy playing in a England shirt, pick on form players, struggle through the group stages or get knocked out in the first rounds, sack the manager and repeat for the foreseeable future. Fixed that for you.
Uncle Monty Posted 19 June 2014 Posted 19 June 2014 The worst thing about it all is having to insure all of the players and staff spouting bullshit like 'We won't change our attacking play' and 'we won't hold back'. Talk is cheap you shit bastards, what excuses will you come up with now? It's so frustrating to watch us churn out the same drab performances tournament after tournament. It's enough to turn people away from international football. Urg I'm so disappointed yet again. Why are we always disappointed? "We played well against Italy" yeah we still lost though - we are simply not good enough any more.

I was in a pub (meaning - poor view. meaning - drinking beer) so that may have been a factor but I honestly didn't notice him. Once. He sort of did the unnoticeable tasks which we needed. Gerrard did him no favours at allsomebody who isn't tactically inept.Go on then, who?
Jimothy Posted 19 June 2014 Posted 19 June 2014 Is Caulker the long term CB option? He's looked okay in most games but he has not stood out as being a future international in my opinion. I'd say he's the best of the young options but he's not great, certainly not international class. We've gone from Adams, Campbell, Rio, Terry, to the prospect of Caulker. Cahill could be our last properly decent centre back for while. Hopefully Moore can step up in few years.
GingerrrFox Posted 19 June 2014 Posted 19 June 2014 Even if Italy beat Costa Rica tomorrow night Roy has to ring the changes and start to move on. Italy and Uruguay will play a damp squib and end with a bore draw anyway. Hart Johnson Cahill Jones Shaw Wilshere Milner Oxlade-Chamberlain Barkley Sterling Sturridge
Leicesterpool Posted 19 June 2014 Posted 19 June 2014 Even if Italy beat Costa Rica tomorrow night Roy has to ring the changes and start to move on. Italy and Uruguay will play a damp squib and end with a bore draw anyway. Hart Johnson Cahill Jones Shaw Wilshere Milner Oxlade-Chamberlain Barkley Sterling Sturridge No Rooney after being our best attacking player tonight? Strange.
fuchsntf Posted 19 June 2014 Posted 19 June 2014 Totally agree. I wish people would stop talking about Uruguay as if they're some footballing super power. They have one world class player, two top quality players and that's it. Like the last 50 years ,England dont have any better..
FrankieADZ Posted 19 June 2014 Posted 19 June 2014 Tbh, I can't see us going thru, the logical/FIFA(corrupt) way will be Italy win tomorrow then they'll play out a draw against Uruguay. While we'll beat Costa Rica. Another tournament watching England....another batch of disappointment and hopes lost. One day we will win something [emoji21]
GingerrrFox Posted 19 June 2014 Posted 19 June 2014 No Rooney after being our best attacking player tonight? Strange. He'll be 30 at the Euros and 32 at the next world cup. He's done in an England shirt, you have players like Barkley/Oxlade-Chamberlain/Sterling/Sturridge/Welbeck and a whole host of promising youngsters not in this squad, it's time to move on.
BlueSi13 Posted 19 June 2014 Posted 19 June 2014 The worst thing about it all is having to insure all of the players and staff spouting bullshit like 'We won't change our attacking play' and 'we won't hold back'. "We played well against Italy" yeah we still lost though - we are simply not good enough any more. I was also thinking that. Why do we never seem to overperform? Even when we weren't expected to do well we have still managed to disappoint a nation. As for Roy, despite him being supposedly in it for the long-haul, if Costa Rica turn us over (which if they play like they did when they gave Uruguay a beating, they will) will he still be in the job come August? Will the damage and humiliation to brand England be strong enough to jerk the FA into action once more?
