It’s a far cry from the heights of the World Cup to England’s second tier, and the gap must seem especially huge to poor old Leeds United at the moment, after players have been told to bring their own lunch to training and wash their own kit.

The former Champions League semi-finalists have hit tough times in recent years, as they dropped from being one of Europe’s elite to League One.

And it doesn’t appear things are about to get much better, despite coming under new ownership this year.

In fact, things have reportedly become so bad at Elland Road, the kitchen at the club’s training ground has been shut with players told they must bring their own packed lunch, and also take their own training kit home to wash.

It’s more reminiscent of Sunday league than a professional outfit, but at least Leeds have offered to wash the matchday kit – as long as the players pay for the privilege.

Its a good job that they used to be champions of Europe because otherwise this would be really funny.....

AND FINALLY

Goalkeeper Paddy Kenny, 36, has been dropped by Leeds because the club's owner Massimo Cellino hates the fact the goalkeeper is born on 17 May. Cellino believes 17 is an unlucky number.

From the bbc website.

I think I'm going to enjoy this season....

As much as I'd like to believe that Paddy Kenny story - has he balls been given the chop because that's his birthday, not buying into that for a second.

The photos of Kenny returning to training looking cripplingly out of shape probably allude more to the actual reason he's gone, that and he's a monumental ****. This Cellino chap seems a bit clueless but you'd not sack off a 'keeper of that quality for his date of birth, definitely more to it than that.

I have heard we have put in a bid for Ross McCormack, offering Leeds a 2,000 quid hot point voucher, a years supply of percil and if we say up there will be a claue requiring us to pay their hot water bill for the year.

We have also been offered any of their other players for a subway lunch and a packet of walkers, Nigel didn't believe anyone in their squad met that valuation.

This isnt going to sound popular but I'd like to see Leeds back in the Premier League soon.

Better than having a nothing team there like Stoke, Hull or QPR.

Neil Warnock suggested Kenny made himself that big on purpose because Leeds dropped him last season for "somebody not as good" (Jack Butland)

I wonder when the actual truth will come out that Warnock has in fact impregnated Paddy Kenny and he's now 7 and a half months pregnant.

So teams who have made it there purely on merit you don't want in the prem, but a team that has been consistently crap for years now, you do want there?

Doesn't bother me if it's a popular opinion or not, it's just doesn't make any sense at all...

Nothing team that happened to be good once with one of the dirtiest teams in history and then again wen they overspent by rediculous amounts, making Sven look like he shops in pound land, they are still left struggling as a result of that period now.

For me they can stay down for years, and keep bringing up stories like this to make me laugh.
