Burmesefox Posted 24 July 2014 Posted 24 July 2014 Andy King is a half decent championship player and no more. He is over rated by a huge amount of city fans because he has come up through the ranks. He's been a loyal servant and I do admire the way he has conducted himself in a professional manner at all times. Having said that he is a flat track bully that flatters to deceive; when we are easily on top he can shine but if sleeves are need to be rolled up then forget it. He constantly goes missing in action and usually as soon as games get physical. Good luck to him in whatever he does but he is not premiership standard. "Emperor's clothes" springs to mind.
Out Foxed Posted 24 July 2014 Posted 24 July 2014 One and a half million for King! Sell him Pearson, he's not Premiership material imo. he may not be. he's definitely worth more than a paltry 1.5 mill though.
LCCFox96 Posted 24 July 2014 Posted 24 July 2014 Watford have also just brought in Keith Andrews so hopefully that ends their interest in Kingy.
LcfcBaker Posted 24 July 2014 Posted 24 July 2014 Give him until January. If he hasn't cut it by that stage then start listening to offers. This post is spot on and will be what Pearson is already thinking
Trav Le Bleu Posted 24 July 2014 Posted 24 July 2014 I can't believe some of the stuff I'm reading. Even after 3800+ posts and over 2 years?
fatboytim Posted 24 July 2014 Posted 24 July 2014 If this was some top talent who had just handed in a transfer request in order to go to a slightly bigger club to line his own pockets, everyone would be slating the guy for being a mercenary and saying about having no loyalty etc. We still have a relatively small squad, and don't know how influential Kingy's presence is behind the scenes so although I understand there really is not a lot of room for sentimentality, I for one hope he stays. I think we as a club should show some loyalty to those who have served us well in the past.
RedSoxUK Posted 25 July 2014 Posted 25 July 2014 King is a constant goal threat whenever on the pitch, be it vs Barnsley or Fulham, this guy can pass beautifully / create chances / hold up / and find the net for Leicester City - no matter who he's playing with, or against. He will be essential to us seeing off games from winning positions, or attempting to win / pull back games. An excellent youthful Leicester legend, and he's not even close to his peak. Pearson! Let him run out his contract, if he's played his heart out, improved, and impacted our season - then sign him up for a few more years, Prem or not.
HoustonFox Posted 25 July 2014 Posted 25 July 2014 I'd love him to stay. I actually think he will be better suited to the Prem. Intelligent footballer and good team player.
MozeyCo Posted 25 July 2014 Posted 25 July 2014 We need depth anyway, it is pointless to sell unless we absolutely NEED to. If he doesnt show up for us then that is another story, but I for on believe he has a prem type of playing, just like knocky and mahrez, hoping to see them all shine. Just staying positive and hoping our bank balance does as well.
Captain... Posted 25 July 2014 Posted 25 July 2014 To even consider selling King while our only CM options are DD, James, King and Hammond is madness, he started over half our games last season. He wasn't a bit part player he played over 2000 minutes and scored vital goals. I would also be gutted if he left, like Lloyd he played a huge part in restoring pride to this club helping rescue it from its lowest point despite offers from elsewhere.

That's how I feel about it too. I've never said King is anything other than a good squad player. I'm just concerned he'll be muscled out in the Prem. But to even consider selling him without a replacement would be madness. I doubt that would happen.
Onions Posted 25 July 2014 Posted 25 July 2014 Selling him would just be wrong, lads remained more than loyal to Leicester, time to do the same. Not out of pity or anything, he's good enough, and he has turned games, he simply is good enough to warrant at least an attempt. Just hate seeing loyal players, have their loyalty thrown back in their face, without a chance. The lads played for Wales 25 odd times, ok, not often against Prem quality, but the pressures are the same, international experience should never be under estimated
Gubbins Posted 25 July 2014 Posted 25 July 2014 lads remained more than loyal to Leicester, time to do the same. It's not like his loyalty has ever really been tested though is it. Until this Watford story surfaced no one has ever come in for him. He might well have been off like a shot if they had!

Na you are right, I mean Everton were never interested or anything a while back............ Could have walked when we went League 1 to ANYONE in the Championship. So fickle.
jayfox26 Posted 25 July 2014 Posted 25 July 2014 Pearson has said he doesn't want to lose any of his current squad. I really doubt King will go. Ideally we need a minimum of 5 centre mids for next season if we play 4-3-3 which we probably will quite a lot, so even if we signed Holtby or another midfielder, I'd say there is still room for King. Only worry is, do we offer him a new contract or risk him leaving for nothing next summer if it turns out he's not good enough for the prem?
Gubbins Posted 25 July 2014 Posted 25 July 2014 Na you are right, I mean Everton were never interested or anything a while back............ Could have walked when we went League 1 to ANYONE in the Championship. So fickle. Evertons 'interest' went no further than a story appearing in newspaper gossip columns for a few days. No prolonged pursuit or bid ever materialised. I also think that making 5 starts in a relegated team meant it was unlikely that ANYONE in the championship knew he existed at that point, let alone wanted to sign him!
AnotherShitSeason Posted 25 July 2014 Posted 25 July 2014 King 100% not good enough for me. Been that way for a long time. Too many deluded souls trading on sentimentality in our support. £2m & we'd be laughing.

Too many deluded souls trading on sentimentality in our support. £2m & we'd be laughing. Please entertain me with reasons why our all time highest scoring midfielder is "100%" not good enough? A player that came through our academy, has been an integral part of our squad for the past 5 yrs and you can always 100% rely on. "£2 million and we'd be laughing?" What have u been smoking lad?

DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 26 July 2014 Posted 26 July 2014 Great post. That's how I feel about it too. I've never said King is anything other than a good squad player. I'm just concerned he'll be muscled out in the Prem. But to even consider selling him without a replacement would be madness. I doubt that would happen. I would be worried if Pearson doesn't bring in a quality player, to replace him. King will be more cannon fodder for most teams, I fear. He is a good Championship player, but Premiership; I don't think so. If we do keep and play him, then I hope I am proved wrong.
65RosesFox Posted 26 July 2014 Posted 26 July 2014 The fact that most of us have been saying we need to sign a midfielder, albeit a defensive one before this King bid came to light shows we need to strengthen and add to what we already have. Selling King for even £3m then means we need to find two midfielders. King has international experience, scores goals and knows the team and management more than anyone. He will be an influential player next season off the bench and will be an asset. Why sell someone like that when we don't need the money. We need to add to the squad not reduce it.

BoyJones Posted 26 July 2014 Posted 26 July 2014 I presume most of King's detractors haven't played football. The lad is immensely skilled, gives it his all every game and never goes missing. He does find it difficult to dictate in midfield, but that is not his job. His job is to link up and as Shanks used to say "get the ball, give it and go". Kingly is often on the end of passing movements, (hence his goal scoring record) unlike Drinky and James, who are box to box players, but don't often actually get into the area very often. Drinky and James can't commit too far forward otherwise we lose our shape. They only press really high when we are chasing a game in the last 10-15 minutes. King deserves his chance in the Prem and I don't think he will let us down.
