Sooper Steve's shin Posted 23 July 2014 Posted 23 July 2014 I'd like this - there's no doubt that Deeney would add some depth and quality to our strike force. Nugent, Vardy, Ulloa and Deeney scored 71 goals in the Championship between them last season - more than all but four teams managed in total!
miked2006 Posted 23 July 2014 Posted 23 July 2014 This its the reason why watford wont get a stupid fee, like fulham paid for McCormack. if he wants prem football, he'll tell the board, and what is the point of keeping a player that doesn't want to be there, just like brighton they will negotiate. McCormack handed in a transfer request and did not fly on their pre season tour, and Leeds still got £11million. I don't see Troy doing that, and minutes ago he has just been made our captain for the following season. We clearly will do everything we can to keep him, unless a silly offer comes in.

harpendenfox Posted 23 July 2014 Posted 23 July 2014 Isn't this what they describe as the "trickle-down effect" in economics? The more money premier league clubs get, the higher the transfer fees will be. It's all very well Watford charging us £10 million for Deeney, but they'll never be able to replace him. Let's be honest, who the fvck wants to play for Watford? er Lloyd Dyer?

One thing I would be totally certain on is that Troy Deeney will want to leave on good terms with the fans. He has seen returning players receive good receptions at Vicarage Road and will want to be seen as a legend. By not pushing for a move the board will take any flak if we miss him drastically.

Bluearmyfox28 Posted 23 July 2014 Posted 23 July 2014 He and Drinkwater were the two starters up until about Christmas, we were still doing very well with him in the team. James and Drinkwater are just a cut above. In the Market place where championship players are selling for £10/£11m he's worth £3m minimum of anyone's money. What are you smoking? Championship strikers are worth that not an average championship midfielder! He's worth 2.5m tops. We should bid 7m & Kingy. That's a fair deal for both sides. King struggled to make an impact in the championship so god knows what he will be like in the prem. he goes missing far to often. We need to wake up out of the past & realise king is no where near the threat he use to be!
RedSoxUK Posted 23 July 2014 Posted 23 July 2014 If we're serious about Deeney, then it looks like Wood will have to depart (on loan which he wont want again, or as a sale) and perhaps King in the deal. I can see a situation where Watford counter offer Deeney for King / Wood, and 3-5mill - Vydra and Wood could be a deadly Champ strike force. I would want to keep Kingy, and keep Wood who is still a prospect for us... Perhaps I went OTT on Deeney being mediocre, I just don't think he's a good fit for our team - morale, skill, or place. I would rather keep the whole squad happy by backing King, than disrupting the rest of the squad bringing in Deeney, and seeing one of our own longest servers go in return. Watford want King, we want Deeney - we've rejected bids, as have they, it seems the deal to sign Deeney will be based on our own reluctance to sell Andy King. I can't see a situation where Watford sell us Deeney for 10m and we keep King in Leicester.
MPH Posted 23 July 2014 Posted 23 July 2014 intrue football manager fashion if he isnt in my first 11 he's a saleable asset... 7 mill and Andy King. I'd miss andy king but its got to be about the stringest possible first 11 for the prem and yes of course we need good quality back up... i'd trust Pearson on that one....* * I appreciate this probably doesnt make any sense at all Whos that absolute tank that used to play CM for Wolves? big black guy... I'd be after him....
PerfumePonce Posted 23 July 2014 Posted 23 July 2014 Said this a while back in another thread - swap/money + player deals very rarely go through. They get tossed around during transfer season all the time tough, by people and papers and it never happens. Can only think of a few times when that sort of deal has been done. Cole/Gallas being one of them.Do you really think the player who would be used to make up the additional fee would be happy with this sort of deal? Not many players would like being used to 'make up the figures', especially if they see themselves to be worth a lot more than this. Also, apparantly they speak Welsh in some parts of Argentina, so we need Kingy to stick around to help Ulloa.

We need to wake up out of the past & realise king is no where near the threat he use to be! I don't think King ever struggled in his role as an attacking midfielder for us, Matty James / Danny Drinkwater's partnership forced King out of the 11, which is fair. King would be a starting midfielder for 90% of the championship last season. He scores goals, passes beautifully, assists, and can hold-up play in the dying minutes. He made the step from League 1 to Championship pretty easily, and Sven loved him! afew years after that - he's still at a young age and I think he has a part to play for us in the prem, think some people will be surprised how he adapts. To any potential Champ teams looking for King (Or prem) I'd value him at 4-5mill, 1 year left on his contract or not. The lad won't want to leave, and wants to be playing prem football.
Guest Col city fan Posted 23 July 2014 Posted 23 July 2014 In today's market he is quite clearly worth more than that. On what basis? How does the market define what a player like King would be worth? He's only worth what a buying club want to pay and a selling club want to get. Deeney is only being valued at c.10 million because Watford don't want to sell him. King's value, I imagine, will be based on whether Pearson has any plans for him? If he really is surplus now, I imagine he'll be let go for not an awful lot. If Pearson REALLY thought Dyer had much of a future here, he'd have given him what he was asking for. Same with King I suspect.
Grey Fox Posted 23 July 2014 Posted 23 July 2014 He is if you don't want to sell. Ulloa, Deeney, etc aren't worth £10m but that's what clubs are asking and getting. Agreed, houses in central London aren't worth millions of pounds, but they sell for that day in and day out. If you want one, that's what you have to pay.
darko2k7 Posted 23 July 2014 Posted 23 July 2014 can we not just get bamford on loan and spend the dosh else where please
RedSoxUK Posted 23 July 2014 Posted 23 July 2014 can we not just get bamford on loan and spend the dosh else where please I have to agree in situations like this. Spending 8mill on a striker is fine now it's done, but it's something I believed wouldn't go through based on Pearson's repertoire of signings in the past. 18m on new strikers will make me wonder what we're doing up top. There's going to be an untapped loan market in the prem where we will be one of the best looking outfits to loan out to (for players and clubs) - I think Ulloa's backup/competition would be Wood at a stretch, and a loaned striker to supplement. A loaned midfielder on the left, and one in the middle wouldn't go a miss, and possibly a loaned defender in any of the positions suits me.
Jon the Hat Posted 23 July 2014 Posted 23 July 2014 Agreed, houses in central London aren't worth millions of pounds, but they sell for that day in and day out. If you want one, that's what you have to pay. Erm. If the sale price doesn't define the value then what does?
VLC86 Posted 23 July 2014 Posted 23 July 2014 can we not just get bamford on loan and spend the dosh else where please Bamford over Deeney, seriously? If the job wasn't to stay in the prem but to look to the future then maybe but it isn't and I think Deeney over Bamford at the minute any day of the week!
johnny the fox Posted 23 July 2014 Posted 23 July 2014 Bamford over Deeney, seriously? If the job wasn't to stay in the prem but to look to the future then maybe but it isn't and I think Deeney over Bamford at the minute any day of the week! why ain't the sheep shaggers getting him back?
MPH Posted 23 July 2014 Posted 23 July 2014 Must admit, I'm clueless as to what Pearson is upto. The campbell deal suggests he would probably be back up to Vardy but I can't for the life of me conclude he'd pay £8m for deeney to play back up to vardy. Or maybe he's going 4-3-3? Or maybe vardy is off? Just intrigued! That's all!
Rushden fox Posted 23 July 2014 Posted 23 July 2014 Campbell is off to palace...welcome Troy...give us your best
DanTheFox07 Posted 23 July 2014 Posted 23 July 2014 seem's strange with the whole campbell situation, maybe palace have upped there term's and we don't want to pay what they are offering this time, either way his agent has played palace with us well but shown that Campbell sadly is after a pay check!

Craig Posted 23 July 2014 Posted 23 July 2014 Can't say I'm too keen on this, but it would piss Watford and Dyche off no end. Do it.
