Everton Pre Match - Premier League football is back

City boss Nigel Pearson has revealed that Marc Albrighton’s fitness is being monitored ahead of the start of the Barclays Premier League season after picking up a knock against Werder Bremen.

The Foxes host Merseyside club Everton at King Power Stadium this coming Saturday, and will be keen to have the former Aston Villa midfielder available for his home debut despite seeing him withdrawn in City’s final pre-season game – a 1-0 friendly win against the German club.

Albrighton has looked sharp in a Leicester City shirt so far this pre-season campaign and has certainly impressed Pearson, but a groin injury sees him join Anthony Knockaert, Matthew Upson and Jamie Vardy on the treatment table, as least temporarily.

Speaking after the Bremen victory, Pearson said: “(We’re) disappointed to pick up a potential injury in terms of Marc Albrighton because I think he’s had a very good pre-season so that’s the only downside.

“It’s groin related but exactly what I don’t know at the moment, we will have to wait and get the scan results.

“We will deal with it – it’s something that happens and I’d rather pick up injuries in games rather than in training so we will have to see how that pans out.”

Alongside Albrighton, Anthony Knockaert and Jamie Vardy have also been receiving treatment ahead of the visit of Everton. Pearson added: “Anthony is not going to be as long as we first thought – it’s still going to be a couple of weeks.

“Jamie Vardy is improving and whether he will be available for next week is, at the moment, a little bit unclear but he’s doing ok - he’s about where we think he should be.

“Matt [upson] will have to undergo a bit of surgery so he will be a while yet. "I want someone of his quality to do what we want him to do. He is still a really good signing for us and it is frustrating for the lad more than anything else.

"He will have a big impact on the season, I have no doubt in my mind.”

I looked at the players

The same players that earned clean sheets away to the teams placed second, third and fourth. The same players that conceded just 43 goals. The same players that conceded the least chances (shots on target).

Yeah. Awful.

It's only a week away, and potentially some good news:

Martinez fears Romelu Lukaku, 21, may miss Everton's first match of the season against Leicester City next weekend as the Belgium striker is still feeling the effects of his World Cup campaign. (Times - subscription required)

What?

They played five games, he didn't even start them all

Not complaining though.

I think we have different outlets so our game is based on how you defend, Pearson is a clever man and won't let us settle on the ball - I think our full backs will determine our side because if they get running space you could seriously be in for a torrid time.

For the posters saying how quick your players are, we can match you - our back four all have a turn of pace as does stones if he comes in, McCarthy is quick (not the fastest) however we do have Mirallas, McGeady, Barkley and Lukaku ( even Chris long ) who are very very pacy

Everton duo Seamus Coleman and Arouna Kone have both taken part in training ahead of the team's Premier League opener with Leicester City.

Coleman has been struggling with a hamstring injury all summer, while Kone missed the majority of last season with a knee problem.

However, the pair are likely to be available for selection this weekend against Leicester.

The Toffees start the new Premier League season with a trip to the King Power Stadium on Saturday.

For your fans who say that you weren't at full strength for the Thailand friendly, you don't have major players who were at the World Cup. For that game we were missing Howard, Barkley, Besic, Baines, Jagielka, Lukaku, Mirallas aswell as injured players. Looking at our record last season I think it's fair to say you're underestimating our strength.

Cant wait for both teams pacey players to cancel each other out then GTF makes an appearance, dances around you and puts it top corner in the 90th minute. lol

one can dream

I was thinking more along the lines of a 40 yard over head kick?

We were nowhere near full strength for Thailand and neither were you. Get over it.

They are a good solid premier league team but they are beatable for sure, first game at home in the prem for a decade sell out crowd our players should be pumped for the occasion I think we will win this game by the odd goal 2-1 City win.

Ulloa and Moore with the goals, Lukaku with theirs.

What does your players being at the World Cup have to do with us not being at full strength?

Mega excited about this.

In our absence Everton have been my preferred Premier League club by far (whilst having an LCFC season ticket before anyone gets their knickers in a twist). Partly cause I love their city (originally because of Beatles connection but since developed into all things Scouse... a great great place and people) but I also admire what Everton have done on relatively limited finances. Bill Kenwright seems a top fella as does Martinez. Great club.

I think it's going to be a great test for us and strong indication of what we can pretty consistently expect in the coming season. Think it's one of the games where a draw would be an incredible result for us.

1-1.

Bore off you clown, no one took that game seriously. We all know we're in for a tough game on Saturday.

Disagree with this now. A solid team is someone like Newcastle or Stoke. Everton are far superior than that at this moment in time. They have a very strong squad and are certainly looking to challenge for Champs League this year. However, I feel we have it in us to get a result. A draw would be a great result against them. A win would be unbelievable.
