Everton Pre Match - Premier League football is back

Almost exactly what I was thinking, but I think Konch will start ahead of Schlupp and I can see Hammond starting ahead of King if we want to keep it tight, swapping for Kingy if we need to push on later on.

Edited to say: I feel dirty, didn't realise I was agreeing almost with Kingfox.

As I've said before I'm not all bad  lol

I'm right though, those two aspects of Everton's game will more than likely cause us the most trouble, Barkley finding space in and around the 18 yard box, and the pace Baines & Coleman in particularly posses. Konchesky in terms of defending yes is better than Schlupp, but pace wise he is nowhere near. Coleman running at Konchesky is a nightmare waiting too happen & if Everton spot that side as a major weakness of ours, they will just start Atsu on the right as well, or throw him on later in the game to cause Konch even more problems. I just think we will need pace at full back, just to keep with the likes of Coleman, playing Schlupp as well could pay dividends in a counter attacking sense as well, say Coleman gives a cheap ball away and hits a bad cross, we can break out with pace from Schlupp, if we have Konchesky he would more than likely slow the game down.

I would just play King because he looked our best midfielder against Bremen, James is a workaholic and in my opinion wouldn't do a bad job tracking Barkley, we have seen with James that he is capable of making tackles and breaking down opposition play.

Mirallas might not play though right?

Everton normally start the season badly and quickly improve - so here's hoping they have a sluggish start

Would be a massive confidence boost to beat a side that is always pushing for a European place in this league in our first game back to the prem

We have got injuries but I still think we can make ourselves difficult to beat and we have players capable of scoring goals

I have a feeling its going to be a close game - just hope we are the ones who nick the result

Very excited about the first game of any season but this one especially with all the added hype of being back in the PL, it's even odd seeing Leicester in our local papers and discussed on Radio as the championship got virtually zero coverage in mainstream media over here.

Hope we can give a good account of ourselves in the first game but like many have said before a few injuries and Everton are a quality outfit doesn't fill me with much confidence.

I think it's going to be a tough game as expected, but not one we should be afraid of.

We need to play our own game against Everton and not let them dictate play. As with anyone outside the top 4/5 clubs. When you play Chelsea, arsenal, Liverpool you need to be more careful. I'm not that scared of Everton Tbf. In fact, I put $50 on us to beat them!

The only concerning thing for me is the lack of width as that was/is a major part of our game but if we play a 433 unbalanced with Mahrez out wide and the others more as a front 2 we could still be a threat outwide with Schlupp on the other wing coming from defence.

I hope Albrighton can get fit for this though. Id even risk bringing one back early as this is the game we are most likely going to get something out of for a few weeks!

If Deeney signs in time in stick him straight in the team.

I wonder what reception Howard will get from the kop? Only say that because of the USA Belgium game when he was superb in a superb game , probably deserves a round of applause! I'm probably being naive though!

I think you'll be on your Kenwyne with that one.

Very difficult opener, but we've got to face the top 6 at some point. A win would be massive, even at this early stage. Confidence is clearly on a high and beating a quality outfit like Everton on our turf would only help that to grow. James and Drinkwater hold the key for me, if they can make the step up then I don't see why we can't achieve a mid table finish.

Yes the defence is a worry, and we certainly don't have enough cover. But, the likes of Alex Bruce, Paul McShane and Damien Delaney managed it last season, and Wes, Was and Liam are a damn sight better than them. Most excited i've been for a game for a long time, last season included. Bring it on.

Keeping it tight early on and maybe the first 45 is absolutely vital. There'll be nothing worse than an absolutely buzzing stadium, everyone on edge with the Premiership return we've all dreamt about and then after ten minutes you hear a pin drop and the net rustle as Lukaku or Barkley or whoever slots one in to the corner. 3000 Scousers go wild in the corner and the balloon's burst before we've even got a foothold. Lose an early one and we'll have backs against the wall all game.

We actually need Knockaert against this lot. Mahrez has a lot of quality breaking away but Knocky's got something extra in his locker. They're good on the break, have great movement but not so good when they've got someone running at them.

If we keep it tight and get in at the break still level we can get a draw at least but the nerves are starting to kick in now.......

I feel sick with Excitement, 10 years away, its gonna be awesome! I think the excitement is overshadowing the fear of what to expect and how we adapt in the Premier league but i am confident we will be ok!!

Leicester v Everton

Leicester are aiming to be top of the bottom six

Leicester have been quite clever in the way they have prepared for their first season back in the top flight since 2003-04.

The Foxes have not gone on a mad spending spree and I think they are being very pragmatic and aiming to finish top of the bottom six.

As well as their new Argentine striker Leonardo Ulloa, they possess a goal threat in Jamie Vardy and David Nugent, and I like the fact they have kept hold of a lot of players who got them promoted.

From what I saw of them last season, the Foxes had real pace and width going forward and I think Nigel Pearson is going to stick with that approach.

Lukaku scored 15 goals in 31 league games for Everton last season

It will be interesting to see how Everton line up. I like the look of their new Bosnian midfielder Muhamed Besic and having Darron Gibson, Bryan Oviedo and, eventually, Arouna Kone back fit will be a boost too.

Is Lukaku good value?

Everton have paid an awful lot of money to sign Romelu Lukaku permanently. He did very well for them on loan from Chelsea last season but I don't think he has the touch of a £28m player. Still, at 21, he can only get better I suppose.

To get the best out of him, I think Everton's aim has to be to get the ball up to him as early as possible, where the play is not too congested. If you can get him in behind the opposition, that is where he is at his best and where he can do some damage.

Everton finished fifth last season and I think they will be very competitive near the top of the table again this time around.

Later on in the season this would be the type of game the Toffees might expect to win, but not on Saturday.

I think it will be a case of an established Premier League team travelling to a newly promoted side who are full of confidence right at the start of the season. Everton will find it more difficult.

Lawro's prediction: 1-1

Mark Lawrenson predicts a 1-1 draw.

Why do all these Everton fans rate Vardy? I'm just confused because if I was to pick one player to stand out based on the tail end of the season it would be Drinky or Mahrez, with Vardy and Nuge battling it out for 3rd/4th.  I guess they just haven't received as much media coverage as Vards with his Conference to PL fairytale there for the easy story.

Edit: Just to clarify, over the entire season I'd put Vards at #2 as Mahrez with his silky skills wasn't around long enough to merit taking the podium spot of someone who was on form all year more or less.

Probably from the Everton game in Thailand, and also highlights, you don't see Drinky dictating the midfield on highlights packages, but you do see Vardy tearing full backs a new one.

Knockaert in contention to face Everton.

Vardy & Albrighton remain doubts.

Thought Knocky was out for 2 weeks?

Great news if he makes it.

This is a very big game. If we get a win, it will give us a huge confidence boost ahead of the rest of the season. It will give us the belief that we need going in to the premier league. The mentality that 'If we can beat Everton, we can beat anyone on our day'. That's why it is such a huge game.

Going in to the game, it is very important that we get off to a very good start. The first 20 minutes may turn out to be very important. An early goal wouldn't hurt as well. If we can get an early goal, we then have something to hold on to, which could open up their defense and possibly get a second.

Honestly, I really feel like the midfield need to up their game, no sloppy passes, and try to keep possession. When playing big teams, I believe we should go for 5 in midfield with Ulloa up top, that's why signing a player like Cambiasso is important, as I do not feel Hammond can cut it in the Prem.

Anyway, that's my thoughts on the game, I'm going for a 2-2 draw, and in my opinion, that is a fantastic result. Whatever happens, at least we will not be bottom of the league... Burnley are playing  Chelsea Monday night.

Worried about our left hand side, I reckon NP will go with konchesky and the thought of Mirallas and Coleman running at him is giving me nightmares. Whoever we play on the left of midfield is going to have to offer protection, not Mahrez strength.

Potential of Schlupp and Konchesky on the left? Especially with knocky and alright on struggling?

Nope, back in training according to Pearson & will be in contention for Everton.

Have said myself for the past week or so, the thought of Coleman running at Konchesky is a nightmare waiting too happen.

This is a player who got voted Best Premier League RB last season, up against a 33 year old who had an average Championship season, and has lost his pace.

That's why I'm praying Albrighton makes it, he is better defensively than Mahrez & Knocky.
