Tielemans63 Posted 26 August 2014 Posted 26 August 2014 Knockaert was our worst player by a country mile, his attitude was shocking, it was like playing with 10 men. When he did get it he cut inside every-time to get tackled then he'd huff and puff abit. Hamer isn't anywhere near the quality of kasper either, if he gets injured we could be in trouble. As shit as we were, there are positives. No players were injured, those who believe in the distraction of the cup (I don't but hey) get their wish, fringe players got 90 mins of match fitness under their belt and the youth lads made their debuts. Without making excuses for the players, it must be extremely hard to get yourself up for this game, tuesday night in a cup you boss has said doesn't matter, in front of no-one and against a, on paper, piss poor team. That seems like a pretty good assessment to me.Knockaert went through a similar spell at the start of last season didn't he? (If I remember correctly).
Guest Col city fan Posted 26 August 2014 Posted 26 August 2014 He's a QPR fan. Off-point - what's the proper term for a QPR fan? A QPRsehole? Change the record. It's a shame how someone so talented with his gifs can post such guff.
fox123 Posted 26 August 2014 Posted 26 August 2014 Pains me as much as anyone to say it but if you think we'll get anything off Arsenal you're deluded. Whether it's 0-1 or 0-6, Arsenal at just under even money (William Hill) is an absolutely silly price. weren't Chelsea like 1/6 or 1/7 to beat us Saturday. I bet that wasn't the price come 60 minutes.
Guest Col city fan Posted 26 August 2014 Posted 26 August 2014 weren't Chelsea like 1/6 or 1/7 to beat us Saturday. I bet that wasn't the price come 60 minutes. Went down to 8/13 at one point. Which I think? was the best price before the goal.
funkyrobot Posted 26 August 2014 Posted 26 August 2014 Nigel's son looked way, way, out of his depth sadly. Same could be said of Cain and to a slightly lesser extent, Watson. We were given a lesson in midfield by their little ginger lad Woods. He looked different class compared to our young lads and based on that performance would walk into our first team squad, never mind our development squad, and he's a league 2 player ffs!
maddog Posted 26 August 2014 Posted 26 August 2014 Seems to me Pearson told the players to go at 60% and save energy for Sunday. I don't believe he will be saying the same things to the players as he did in his post match interview with stringer. I'm pleased for Shrewsbury because they deserved the win and will appreciate another round and potential TV revenue if they draw a big side. We would have just kept churning out the reserves until we were out anyway so it's probably for the best we lost tonight. Still to charge 15 quid for that crap with only one stand open is a bit ridiculous. Could be due to limits on minimum ticket prices but why not charge a fiver and fill the stadium more!?!? The parallels with Burton Albion 2 seasons ago were uncanny, except I thought we played much better against Burton despite the heavier defeat.
BlueSi13 Posted 26 August 2014 Posted 26 August 2014 Stoke 2-1 Leicester, last seasons FA cup Next 16 games - WWWWWDDWWWWDDWDW Huh? Stoke City were a division above us and at home, so the result went to form? Can't imagine that result would really have jarred us one bit.
Dan Posted 26 August 2014 Posted 26 August 2014 You know, people can boo. They've just payed £15 for that rubbish. It's embarrassing, they are League Two ffs. I won't slam people booing that. Only in very rare cases would I justify people booing but we didn't give a single **** tonight for me.
Tielemans63 Posted 26 August 2014 Posted 26 August 2014 He looked different class compared to our young lads and based on that performance would walk into our first team squad Have you seen our first choice CMs play? They're quite good.
Webbo Posted 26 August 2014 Posted 26 August 2014 Their number 2, a big black lad playing CB was probably the best man on the pitch tonight, seem to win every header and block every cross/shot
Corky Posted 26 August 2014 Posted 26 August 2014 Our fans are impatient at the best of times but I've no issue with the complaints tonight. We should expect commitment and effort in every single game, no matter the opposition or competition.
Mark_w Posted 26 August 2014 Posted 26 August 2014 I won't slam people booing that. Only in very rare cases would I justify people booing but we didn't give a single **** tonight for me. I usually applaud to help drown them out, just couldn't bring myself too tonight.
chris_lcfc_85 Posted 26 August 2014 Posted 26 August 2014 Was good to see the ovation we gave the Shrewsbury players tonight after the game, they seemed genuinely shocked. Shame Knocky couldn't have the decency to congratulate them

suffolk fox Posted 26 August 2014 Posted 26 August 2014 Went tonight to say it was shocking and awful is an understatement. As others have intimated the team that was put out should have had enougth to beat Shrewsbury. Fact is not one player bar Hamer played well. Marez for all his tricks and skill needs to learn how to cross a football. What on earth has happened to Knockeart? A shadow of his former self was awful and so was his body language. On that performance it will be a long time before he forces his way back into the first team. More worrying was Nigel Pearsons post match interview. He sounded extremely angry, frustrated and thoroughly fed up. Reading between the lines I got the impression all is not well in the transfer front. At first I thought it was Stringer again asking silly questions but when he was probed re transfers he became hostile, angry, frustrated intimating things were out of his control etc, etc. All is not rosy on the transfer front. i fear? Moreover, our team does lack depth tonight proved that. How Gtf pulls on a shirt is baffling but when you have him huffing and puffing in midfield you just know we will struggle. Best call tonight post match was when a young caller stated he anchored our midfield. Matty Elliot nearly choked on his mike saying I wouldn't call it that? But I nearly said something I didn't want too. You could also hear someone giggling in the background class.
Guest Col city fan Posted 26 August 2014 Posted 26 August 2014 Sorry to piss on everyone's chips, but if, like many are saying who presumably went tonight?, we weren't 'trying', well I'm afraid the buck stops with the manager doesn't it? There was no reason why the players put out tonight shouldn't be trying? Younger lads, wanting to impress, some squad players, wanting to impress? I can only assume therefore, they were instructed not to be too bothered? What other conclusion can be reached? If they weren't told this, and just weren't bothered, then I worry for the likes of Wood and Knockaert. Are you sure we just didnt get beat by a better team on the night? It does happen.

If his dad wasn't involved with football there is no way he'd be a professional footballer IMO. He looked completely lost and at times dejected, the lad knew he wasn't good enough (remember this is also against a League 2 side, not Manchester City).
stevelcfc Posted 26 August 2014 Posted 26 August 2014 That seems like a pretty good assessment to me. Knockaert went through a similar spell at the start of last season didn't he? (If I remember correctly). Yeah, he did, started largely on the bench I believe. He's such a frustrating player, he has the potential and the ability to make a fool of any full back in any league but he's lacking the intelligence of a top player, he doesn't know when the right time to put the ball in, to lay it off to the next man, when to utilise the overlapping fullback. He's to desperate to do this one sublime piece of skill and to lap up the applause for doing it. I think this year could be a big year in his development, he needs to gain the maturity and that footballing intelligence and quickly or otherwise we might see him moving on as we can't afford to carry him in the team on the off chance he will produce something, especially at this level and with the two/three other wingers we have.
chris_lcfc_85 Posted 26 August 2014 Posted 26 August 2014 We get it, you don't like Knockaert I actually rate him very highly and im desperate to see him produce his best as we all know what he can do.... He even had a couple of moments tonight where he created something from nothing but on the other side of the coin, I've always been told to work hard and show effort regardless of how well your playing, he didn't do that tonight which just really grates on me
BigMicky Posted 26 August 2014 Posted 26 August 2014 This, this and this again. Try telling that to Middlesbrough fans.

To say that the manager should take full responsibility is to fail to recognise that the players are their own person. They have thoughts, feelings and abilities and can control how they act. Tonight they simply didn't apply themselves and it's not fair to take responsibility away from them and place it all at the manager's feet.
