To say that the manager should take full responsibility is to fail to recognise that the players are their own person. They have thoughts, feelings and abilities and can control how they act.

Tonight they simply didn't apply themselves and it's not fair to take responsibility away from them and place it all at the manager's feet.

Agree, I wish more folk spoke as much sense.

Not overly fussed about this tbh, it's not the end of the World, if we end up getting our arsed kicked by Burnley in the Premier League, then we'll have something to really moan about.

Tonight just shows that the youth players aren't ready yet, while we lack depth as proven with some of our back up players not performing.

As for Knockaert I'm hardly surprised, biggest overrated pile of shit going at LCFC, and now some fans are starting to realise it, fingers crossed it passes onto the teenage fans who idolise him & suck up to him.

Well you probably won't have to wait long.. If the odds on Arsenal are as short as Ealingfox says, I'm sorry but I think I know where my little fiver might be going.

That's my attitude really when I bet against City. I make a point of not betting much. If City win, great, I've only lost five. If they don't, well, at least I've made 7.50 or whatever it is. Or about 20 quid tonight as it happened. Softens the blow, don't mean I don't want us to win. Not that I should have to explain that to you Arry..

I think Harry's confusing what you think will happen with what you want to happen. If you believe City will get beat, why wouldn't you bet we'll get beat? Betting against your team doesn't mean you want it to happen.

And on that note I'm going to bed. Night all

Just got back and that was so embarrassing tonight.

The guy behind me (who felt like commentating all game) decided that Knockaert was man of the match, but honestly he was fvcking awful. Oooo let's see how many frilly little tricks I can do! Mahrez was just as bad, at one point kept trying to skin the same player instead of just getting the ball in the box.

Deliveries today were atrocious.

Nobody looked arsed, at all.

Harry, you seem to want to make an argument tonight? Read the post. I said, if the players weren't instructed to take their foot off the gas, then it's worrying. The team wasn't merely a group of kids thrown in together for the cup. It contained, Wood, Knockeart who, by all accounts, had a stinking game. And others. Even if they chose themselves not to play, that's worrying.

And it could have been that Nige said he weren't too bothered? I'm simply responding to how others said they saw he game. My first thought was hat we were just beaten by a better side.end of.. But it would appear we didn't try. That's more concerning,

Have you seen our first choice CMs play? They're quite good.

Err yes mate I have. Season ticket holder. Note the word squad not team. James and Drinky are class. Same can't necessarily said for their back up cover.

More worrying was Nigel Pearsons post match interview. He sounded extremely angry, frustrated and thoroughly fed up. Reading between the lines I got the impression all is not well in the transfer front. At first I thought it was Stringer again asking silly questions but when he was probed re transfers he became hostile, angry, frustrated intimating things were out of his control etc, etc. All is not rosy on the transfer front. i fear?

.

I've said this in a few other threads. Seems well pissed off to me. I half wonder if this team selection was to prove a point.

We are 2 games into the season none of our players should need a rest. We have 8 less league games this season we can afford a cup run without tiring out the first team...

But if playing a midweek game is too much for our starting 11 then why play any of them?

Why risk Konch and Moore and Mahrez? Why not play all the kids? At least they will be used to playing together.

Are you not bothered then Micky, that our players, by all accounts, didn't seem to give a shite? Or are your glasses so tinted that they are beyond discussion?

King and Hammond have been 2 of our best players in the opening prem games

Sorry to piss on everyone's chips, but if, like many are saying who presumably went tonight?, we weren't 'trying', well I'm afraid the buck stops with the manager doesn't it? There was no reason why the players put out tonight shouldn't be trying? Younger lads, wanting to impress, some squad players, wanting to impress? I can only assume therefore, they were instructed not to be too bothered? What other conclusion can be reached?

If they weren't told this, and just weren't bothered, then I worry for the likes of Wood and Knockaert.

Are you sure we just didnt get beat by a better team on the night? It does happen.

Col, I was there it really was woeful. I agree before the game in the pub I was thinking Looking forward to seeing Knockeart cos he will be peeeved he has been left on the bench recently and he will have something to prove. With the younger lads, I thought they will try and impress too. Wood by saying after Everton he wants to stay as he wants to play in the premiership ec I thought we will be ok. However, after ten minutes I got the impression most of em thought Oh well we are premier league we don't have to try cos this is only little old Shrewsbury etc, etc. Our team should have had enougth to beat them. They were well organised and had two big lump centre halfs but we were very poor and all the young lads looked out of their depth. How Matt Elliot gave Pearsons son motm I will never know? Our squad is indeed lacking. Worryingly the transfer window has been open since May what on earth has our recruitment policy, process been doing? This I believe is what is getting to Np cos as he states he likes to do his business early. Quite frankly, we have not been doing any. Even bloody Hull don't have problems signing players surely we can compete with Hull?

Don't patronise me by saying I haven't read your post. I know exactly what you said, I just don't agree. You do this a lot by the way - tell people to go back and read what you said again because you simply can't understand why anyone wouldn't agree with what you've said.

But yeah you're right, it is concerning that we didn't try. I just think that the players, the people who control their bodies, should take more of the blame than the manager.

I'm really disapointed, we are a prem level club, and our squad should be more then capable of beating a league 2 club.  A good cup run does benefit the club, morale and confidence.........all this has done has added more pressure onto the management and players.  Yet we may want to forget about this result, we are more then happy pissing ourselves at Man U's loss, and if QPR had lost or were to lose to a L2 team, we wouldn't be so kind to there manager!!

I hope this is a wake up call to the players, if we take things easy, this what happens, let's hope we do better against the Arse

O'Neil didn't win the cup in our first season back in the Premier League.

I suppose you're right in a way. It was O'Neill that won us the League Cup that year!

Not bothered at all, I'd be concerned if it happend in the Chelsea or Everton game, but funnily enough it didn't. Its a meaningless trophy that should be of no concern to us this season. The league and FA cup are of paramount importance.

I'll take your verdict pretty much as read Suffolk... I saw the game pretty much as some of the squad players were going to give it their all, and especially Wood and Knocky. I'm surprised they didn't. However, as a I said above, when I heard the team, also having read they had started the season very well, I thought an upset could be on the cards.

I hate this.

Take 3 of those meaningless trophies away and our trophy success starts to look a little bare!

A trophy is a trophy. I do agree that priorities lie elsewhere this season considering how hard it was to get back in this division. However, there's no particular evidence to suggest going out of the cups early helps League performance. I am disappointed with losing to a League 2 side at home tonight as we should have enough to perform to a level to beat them. Nevertheless, I can see that it isn't the end of the world. By no means is it a meaningless trophy though!!!

Good job you aren't around when we went to Wembley twice and actually won a trophy. You'd have been well disappointed. I'm of the school of thought we should try to do as well as we can in every competition. Call me ol fashioned.

Yes it did as normally I never boo but tonight I was not happy at spending £15 to watch people giving 50% effort!! I expect a bit more
