StanSP Posted 27 September 2014 Posted 27 September 2014 Looking forward to watching it tonight, Palace have certainly been a big surprise this season given their disruptive off pitch problems at the start of the season. It wasn't a great game to be honest for the neutral. 2 set-pieces were practically our undoing.
Leicesterpool Posted 27 September 2014 Posted 27 September 2014 The premier league is full of surprises these days, i think there's one or two overreactions about this. Yeah we lost 0-2 Palace yet we managed to hammer United and can imagine we all disappointed, but we're still tenth and we're still only in September. Despite the bad result today, we've still had a good steady start.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 27 September 2014 Posted 27 September 2014 Tactics were wrong today, but we also played poorly anyway especially once the first goal went in. First half there wasn't much in it. I'd like to see James and Mahrez in for Hammond and Nugent and let's play a bit more positively.
Humpy Posted 27 September 2014 Posted 27 September 2014 It wasn't a great game to be honest for the neutral. 2 set-pieces were practically our undoing. As I said in a previous post at least it was an away game, I'm not sure what the atmosphere is like in the King Power on week to week basis but my mates and I were saying that the atmosphere creates an intimidating (for the players) atmosphere. I reckon yous will turn that place into a bit of a fortress, if it isn't already. How come Schlupp doesn't start, I really rate him.

Freesolo Posted 27 September 2014 Posted 27 September 2014 One thing that did surprise me today was he Ref nothing to do with us losing but he seemed reluctant to get his cards out in the first half the was a vicious tackle, i think it was on De Laet obvious yellow and he just gave a free kick there was another point when Cabiasso wanted to take a quick Indirect free kick just inside there half and a palace player stood directly infront of him so he couldn't so Cambiasso kicked the ball off the palace player looking at the ref as if saying "are you seeing what he's doing here" the ref did nothing
Bob666 Posted 27 September 2014 Posted 27 September 2014 Palace took full advantage of their aerial superiority, they looked dangerous every time they got a corner. We dominated possession, but couldn't do much with it. They got back enough bodies to thwart all our advances in play. Not our day, Palace deserved the win.. Spot on - told my son at half time that we'd get undone by a set piece in second half - wasn't expecting x2 within 3 ins though!! Easy for Palace after that as they could soak up what little pressure we created & catch us on the counter attack to waste more time. Didn't think it was a penalty as JV did his usual rolling routine. Bad day but had to happen & hopefully wakes them up for Burnley challenge.
Bettsj2 Posted 27 September 2014 Posted 27 September 2014 Just watched it. I think NP will stick with this formation for Burnley but can see the following changes:- Mahrez for Nuge James for Hammond Simpson for RDL I love De Laet but he's struggled in every game.
Corky Posted 27 September 2014 Posted 27 September 2014 Poor performance and deserved loss, they were better than us all over the pitch. Not overwhelmingly, but they won second balls, went forward with purpose and didn't allow our midfield to get any real foothold. The goals we conceded were disappointing though, especially a free header from a side known for being strong from set pieces. It's not a crisis and we are still comfortable, but we need to improve on that a lot for next week. It shouldn't take away from the outstanding work so far this season. However, lessons will be learned from this, I can see Pearson making personnel and tactical changes for Burnley and hopefully we'll see a much improved display.
MooseBreath Posted 27 September 2014 Posted 27 September 2014 Fine margins. We didn't play well but weren't outplayed. Vardy should have scored in the first half and then it would have been a different game. Let's not pretend we've dominated the premiership so far, we've won points on fine margins, today we lost on the same. Two goals from set pieces suggests that tactics weren't the deciding factor in the loss, however I always prefer to see us playing 442 simply because I've seen so many abject performances like today whenever we try anything different. It worked against Man Utd but that was a freak result, five shots five goals and some huge slices of fortune. If anything good comes from this then it's hopefully that we go back to 442 and get Mahrez back in the game, who along with Albrighton/Knocky/Schlupp who should all be chomping at the bit, will give us that extra dimension to our attacking play that was sorely missed today. All in all, a result typical of football, one that we shouldn't be too worried about but that we should be looking to learn lessons from.
HitchinFox Posted 27 September 2014 Posted 27 September 2014 Col you must have a short memory if you think there are giveaways in any league! Yeovil, Doncaster, Charlton, Sheff Weds? Derby?
ian_marshall Posted 27 September 2014 Posted 27 September 2014 Just got back. Poor performance all round from both the players and the management team. No one seemed up for the challenge today. We got absolutely bossed by Jedinak in the middle of the park and their centre backs had Ulloa in their pockets. Tactically Warnock won the battle and I felt the substitutions didn't really influence the game in anyway today. Personally thought Hammond had a really poor game and looked like he'd spent the week at the Richie Wellens school of football, constantly passing backwards and sideways almost afraid to take responsibility for the ball. It really surprised me as in all of the other games this season he's managed the ball quite well. Also thought Mahrez was dreadful when he came on and really didn't look that interested. Several times he bottled challenges which just gifted them possession. You could see the other players getting agitated and gesturing towards him to get stuck in. Also seemed to try to do too much at times losing the ball easily. Reminded me a lot of Doncaster away last season and Peterborough away the season before that. Not a good day at the office, but you don't win them all and I'm confident that we'll bounce back against Burnley, as apart from today the boys have been fantastic so far.

Matt Posted 27 September 2014 Posted 27 September 2014 Disappointing, Very. We were poor, the annoying thing? So were they, they went 2 up and sat back, Man Utd didn't yet we beat them, so I ask the question why didn't we go for the jugular today when they sat back? It was a boring game all over, not because we lost it was simply a shit game, think I actually fell asleep during the 2nd half it was that shit!! 1st half we were ok, the better team, but 2nd we were awful. A draw would have been a fair result but think Palace probably (just) deserved the win. It ok getting 'up' for Everton, Chelsea, Arsenal, Stoke (away - tough place to go) Man Utd. But we need to be up for these games, not treat then with discontent, without sounding knee jerk or melodramatic but next week is must win. We need to win games against teams that are around us and will be come the end if the season. Seeing who we've played and how we've played so far this season makes today very disappointing, infact disappointing doesn't even scratch the surface given how they played today. Anyway on to the next one a must win against a very poor side in Burnley at home. After all we'll be the "market leaders" and need to show this.

How dare you make the same 3 changes as me...Drop nugent aswell? But he is god!
Ghost Troop Posted 27 September 2014 Posted 27 September 2014 Its a long long season, we have had a tough start and held our own so far. We won't win or draw them all. We will have bad days and other teams will have some good fortune playing against us. I think we are good enough and tough enough to survive. I'll take that. Shit happens. Che sera sera.
HighPeakFox Posted 27 September 2014 Posted 27 September 2014 I think a lot of you felt this might happen.....it did have inevitability about it. Next!
ScouseFox Posted 27 September 2014 Posted 27 September 2014 been in work since 8.15 this morning just got back. sounds shit. who we blaming? can't be arsed reading no threads there's too many. gonna watch vardy's goal from last week again aren't i. yep.
ousefox Posted 27 September 2014 Posted 27 September 2014 Was shite. Nobody turned up. Drinkwater was shocking and he plays bad the team usually does. Bolasie ripped us to shreds.

Not a good day at the office, but you don't win them all and I'm confident that we'll bounce back against Burnley, as apart from today the boys have been fantastic so far. I think the game bypassed him - every Palace ball went out to the wings rather than through the middle when they were attacking. When we lumped it forward time after time, he was too deep to win the second ball. Jedinak dominated the middle and spread it to Puncheon and Bolasie who ran at the full backs. Schlupp and Albrighton should have started this game (for Hammond and Nuge/Vardy) to provide some support as we knew what Palace's game plan would be. Their goals came from set pieces won by tricky wing play, which (in my opinion) could have been prevented. All in all a disappointing performance and a bad day at the office. Dust ourselves off and hammer Burnley next weekend and the Optimistic Bus will be back on the road.
Riot Van Posted 27 September 2014 Posted 27 September 2014 Only got back 30 minutes ago.... Just not our day, passing and creativity was extremely lacking. Mcarthur looked a good player and was definitely better than Cambiasso. As much as I like Nugent, he needs to be dropped for next game.

Oooh don't start that 'definitely better than Cambiasso' business! You'll get mullered.

lgfualol Posted 27 September 2014 Posted 27 September 2014 Was shite. Nobody turned up. Drinkwater was shocking and he plays bad the team usually does. Bolasie ripped us to shreds. So what you're saying is that we shouldn't play Drinkwater. That way we wont play bad if he does.
