foxfan92 Posted 28 September 2014 Posted 28 September 2014 I was always worried we'd look poor against Palace and we did. The euphoria of last week was always likely to be shattered by a reality check. Now I am not suggesting by "reality check" we have been fortunate until this week. More that we've been playing out of our skins since the season started - a poor showing was bound to happen eventually (all teams have bad days) and funny as it seems I think its sometimes the case that matches you feel you might get something out of on paper are often harder to do so than games where you're almost written off before the games start are. (Perhaps this was the first game the players felt the extra burden of expectation on their shoulders). I don't think we were helped by a game plan that didn't seem to work. NP had obviously thought he'd identified a weakness with the direct diagonal balls - or perhaps just wanted us to get the ball quicker to Vardy hoping he would get on the end of enough to cause problems most of the match - but that didn't happen. With hindsight we might have been better in a 4 - 4 - 2 to give our full backs more cover doubling up challenges from their front players, and utilizing the pace of Vardy and our wider players to hit them fast on the counter ... What I think is important now is we show our support even more. One bad day in the office is something to get used to in the premier league ... even the big teams lose and look poor some days ... its important we drown out the opposition crowd against Burnley and we wipe the memory of this Palace game with an emphatic win. Lets not get on the backs of any player because of one match - lets remember we have 8 points from 6 games and we're in the top half of the league.
wight88 Posted 28 September 2014 Posted 28 September 2014 Oddly enough when we beat Sunderland 5-2, by general consensus our previous greatest prem performance, it was followed by a two nil defeat at selhurst park at the hands of Wimbledon.
Riot Van Posted 28 September 2014 Posted 28 September 2014 Truly a most horrific non performance. I wish to hell I hadn't gone, and felt badly let down. Most Championship sides would have beaten us yesterday. We looked slow on the ball, disjointed, and back to our woeful selves in dealing with set pieces! Cambiasso was our only decent player, but one man can't win matches on his own. Time to move on, and hope for a 99% improvement against Burnley. I thought Cambiasso was very very poor by his standards.
Dan Posted 28 September 2014 Posted 28 September 2014 Tbh, I think Palace could have won by more. We had a couple of chances, but they were dominant. We had more possession, but that was because all we did was pass it around at the back the whole time, and we didn't look remotely threatening 99% of the time. It wasn't an "even game", and they didn't only win because of set pieces. We got lucky IMO, could have easily been more. As for the atmosphere, we could have been so much better. Decent start, but why did we have to stop making noise once they had scored? Thought the exact same. We were excellent in parts but totally gave up. The manner of our performance was never helping matters though.

Always been the same mate, win or lose if the team are at least doing something to suggest they are getting in the game, the fans stay loud and vocal, but as the game went on, and the teams poor performance, I think it just deflated the atmosphere
suffolk fox Posted 28 September 2014 Posted 28 September 2014 Was worried when I saw the formation for this one we should have gone 4 4 2 and set up like we did away at Chelsea. Quite simple really Palace are a big, physical, typical Pulis/Warnock side we were bullied. It was a very even first half and I didn't think we would concede. For all Bolasie's tricks he was quite poor we made him look good by affording him too much room. Someone mentioned Campbell earlier pulling our defence out of shape, well, apart from getting the touch for their first goal, I can't remember him at all really making any impact. They are strong and Physical at the back again they were holding down Ulloa all game it wasn't penalised by a poor official. We didn't deserve anything from the game though, we weren't allowed to pass so credit Warnock for doing his homework on us. Made worse after they succesfully crocked and injured Cambiasso who had a good first half. Second half we just couldn't get going Drinkwater becoming a clone of Hammond and passing it sideways and backwards? Palace will be round about us come the end of the season we just have to learn how to play against the more physical sides in the division who do not allow you much tome on the ball. Can we play Arsenal and Utd every week please.

Stadt Posted 28 September 2014 Posted 28 September 2014 Cambiasso only completed 22 passes, doesn't prove much but he wasn't as involved as I thought.
suffolk fox Posted 28 September 2014 Posted 28 September 2014 Cambiasso only completed 22 passes, doesn't prove much but he wasn't as involved as I thought. We just didn't look the same after he went off injured after they had crocked him. He was orchestrating things in the middle of the park, plus the marvellous goalline clearance in the first half.. We, as a team couldn't cope with their physicality or bullying typical warnock side. To concede two goals from set pieces is very disappointing though.

We did that last week but it seems the management decided we could take the initiative away from home. That's laudable but surprises me, given pearson's natural pragmatism.

Dan Posted 28 September 2014 Posted 28 September 2014 I didn't think Cambiasso was up to much yesterday at all personally.
bovril Posted 28 September 2014 Posted 28 September 2014 I have to say McArthur looked like the best midfielder on the pitch yesterday.
steveherbe Posted 28 September 2014 Posted 28 September 2014 Thought the exact same. We were excellent in parts but totally gave up. The manner of our performance was never helping matters though. So right Dan, I think I only joined in 3 or 4 chants. Performance on the pitch didnt inspire us in the stands - and before anyone starts, it HAS to be that way round, the players need to inspire us, then we support and inspire them. Hopefully I'll have a better 'game' next week against Burnley.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 28 September 2014 Posted 28 September 2014 Very shit decision from the ref. Vardy clearly fouled in second half at 2-0, maybe inside the area at worst a free kick to us. Although having said that wtf was the lino also doing on that side
Sol thewall Bamba Posted 28 September 2014 Posted 28 September 2014 Highlight of my day was seeing Soup Nazi pick up the smoke bomb outside the Flora Sandes then run away from the police

Saying that I think we could've shouted until everyone's voice had gone and we'd still not have scored now. They schooled us.
Chug Laguna Posted 28 September 2014 Posted 28 September 2014 Shocked the match didn't turn around when Simpson was subbed in for RDL. That was the change the game was screaming for and I thought it was a masterstroke.

DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 28 September 2014 Posted 28 September 2014 Perhaps Pearson did actually make a few tactical mistakes yesterday, but the players were, for the most part, all at sea..
inckley fox Posted 28 September 2014 Posted 28 September 2014 And the opposition box. We never look dangerous from corners, where palace looked like they could score from every one. I'm convinced the problem isn't the corner taker, but the way we attack them. We need a Guppy or an Izzet on the coaching staff!
Clever Fox Posted 28 September 2014 Posted 28 September 2014 I would've gone for Was for Wes personally to get us back in it, but I can see why Pearson did what he did. Totally agree, With the height they had in their team and the way Delaet was being bullied by Bolasie NP should have brought Wes on to stop Bolasie. then Cry Pal would have to try a different way to get behind us. One thing we did look yesterday was light weight compared to palace. I also think the Bench was the wrong mix. Let's put it behind us and hopefully move on quickly.

Humpy Posted 29 September 2014 Posted 29 September 2014 Finally got round to watching the match in full, the best way to describe it for me was it looked like Leicester reverted back to a Championship playing style, by that I mean the game looked like something you would see in a Championship game and not what you expect from a Premier League game. Quite a few long balls and defensively you were all over the place at times, there was no cutting edge or pace like yous had last week, I think you deserved to get beat, however I'd imagine it was more a one off rather than a normality performance. It shows that there are no easy games in the Premiership, Leicester will be fine this season I feel. Your home form is what will keep you in the league.
