Newcastle (A) Match Thread

And Schlupp does more defensive work than Vardy as well hence his inclusion. Think Welbeck of England.

We've got two defensive minded midfielders in the midfield 3. We're not desperate for one of our front 3 to sprint all the way back to his own box.

If you're playing this formation the front 3 should be in attacking positions for the majority of the time, otherwise it isn't working.

Can't believe what i'm reading re; Team Selection. Would much rather have Vardy running at a tiring crap defense than right from the start. Albrighton is here for his supposedly good delivery - and I think we all trust Ulloa to convert chances.

Vardy, Nuge and a midfielder to come off the bench? Have some confidence in the game plan, for christ's sake.

seen as kitch agreed with me i'll agree with kitch  :kissing: and say we are much more likely to win a game like this, with a crap defence on their side, 3-1 or 4-2 or something than we are to keep a clean sheet and nick something from a set piece, which seems like the aim from how we've set up here.

Whilst I understand the ideal of winning home games and keeping it tight away from home to draw games, playing one up front against a piss poor Newcastle side does seem rather negative.

They're having a bad patch that doesn't make them bad players. They'll finish at least 5 places above Burnley.

They are bad players though. Who do actually rate in their team? Their defence is slow and their midfield has very little quality.

Another tough midfield battle, that we have to try and get on top of. We have the energy in James & Drinkwater, while Cambiasso hopefully has a calm influence & goes in for some challenges.

Surprised we aren't starting one of Nugent or Vardy, but big chance for Albrighton to show why we signed him in the first place.

This could go two ways, Newcastle get on top in midfield, have the possession & Ulloa get's isolated and we lose.

Or our midfield get on top of their's, our formation turns into an attacking 4-3-3 & we scare the shit out of them on the counter attack.

Hopefully we at least pick up 3 points from our two away games, I'd be happy with that.

We have been conceding too many goals, Pearson has looked to address that as our gung ho approach is fine in a game where we have nothing to lose.

I think he is also aware of how much this approach is taking out of his players and we can't play every minute of every game at full tilt, we will look to control this game and take our chances. Albrighton can put the crosses in, James was our best taker of a set-piece last season, Cambiasso will help control and win the midfield battle and Schlupp and Albrighton will stop our full backs from being exposed.

Drinkwater will be key today driving the ball forwards from midfield and getting forwards to support Ulloa.

£5 on him to score first.
