ronnup Posted 26 December 2014 Posted 26 December 2014 There's no way we'll buy a right back and there's no way Naughton will want to play left back. He's going to want a regular right back slot
LCCFox96 Posted 27 December 2014 Posted 27 December 2014 Frankly signing a new right back isn't one of our priorities. We need 2 strikers, 2 decent midfielders, a centre half and a left back before we even look at right backs. Have to agree with this to be fair. I think - looking at just the defence in isolation - a vast majority of the fans would say they are far more comfortable with our options at right back than left back. We have to solid enough right backs for our position, one of whom is proven in the prem and the over with the potential to play at that level. Compare that to left back where we have one out and out left back who looks to be over the hills at prem level. It's another brainer where the investment needs to go. As the quoted poster says a centre half also needs to be prioritised over a new right back as much I'd have Naughton in a heart beat.
gazfox9 Posted 29 December 2014 Posted 29 December 2014 Move a player who hasn't played there before to accommodate a player who has played left back before. Hmm. De Laet has frequently played left back in his career, just not for us.
RizLCFC Posted 1 January 2015 Posted 1 January 2015 Spurs want £5m for him! http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/kyle-naughton-transfer-tottenham-swansea-4903764
Guest CityFan 06 Posted 2 January 2015 Posted 2 January 2015 I always rated him when he was first here on loan, looked class and had quality. I recall him scoring a great goal for us at the King Power too in his loan time at the club.

Babylon Posted 6 January 2015 Posted 6 January 2015 Do we really need three right backs? I know we can shove one on the left but it just seems a bit stupid. Unless of course we feel that there aren't many decent left backs and putting a right back there is out best option (can't believe there are no left backs out there).

We could potentially, if all the speculation is true, be looking at Naughton for a 6 month loan if like you say there are few decent left backs available and then moving onto a new target in the summer? Just a thought and, although I did rate Naughton during his time here, I too find it hard to believe we can't find a better left back available as opposed to playing a right back out of position.

C-man Posted 6 January 2015 Posted 6 January 2015 I see he's been sent off by Mike Jones this season. Should fit right back in.
Babylon Posted 6 January 2015 Posted 6 January 2015 De Laet at left back (better than Konchesky)? Like I said I know we can put one out there, just doesn't seem like a long term option. Yeah I suppose so.

Unless of course we feel that there aren't many decent left backs and putting a right back there is out best option (can't believe there are no left backs out there). De Laet & potentially Schlupp at left-back, Naughton and Simpson on the right. Good/reliable left-backs for "little money" are really hard to find, they're like a dying breed.
NewquayFox Posted 6 January 2015 Posted 6 January 2015 We had all last summer to look for a left back knowing that Konchesky was never going to be reliable enough (and he has certainly proved that) Surely a decent left back must be looking for a move, also prefer Schlupp in the left mid position...

The three left backs I would set my stall out on all ply their trade in the Championship. 1. Tyrone Mings 2. Martin Olsson 3. George Friend ANY of the above would be superb additions to our squad!
Guest Posted 6 January 2015 Posted 6 January 2015 Loved Naughton when he was here, would be happy to have him back - could easily be first choice.
LCCFox96 Posted 6 January 2015 Posted 6 January 2015 Tyrone Mings is a player I wish we were able to sign this window. Looks classy at left back at the age of 21 and has stepped into Cresswell's shoes with consummate ease. Sadly I think he's destined for bigger things and we are not an attractive move for him now. Olsson is a decent shout though.
Bettsj2 Posted 6 January 2015 Posted 6 January 2015 Its a signing that doesnt really make sense. RDL has a new deal and Simpson has only just got in the team and is doing pretty well. Bit of an odd one.

Whilst i agree with you, i guess if the money is there, and theres an opportunity to improve the squad.. maybe he's struggling to improve other positions....
The_77 Posted 6 January 2015 Posted 6 January 2015 I think if this deal goes through, we're looking at Konch/RDL at left back. RDL looked pretty decent covering the left (albeit for the last few minutes of a game) after Konch got sent off at Villa. De Laet & potentially Schlupp at left-back, Naughton and Simpson on the right. Good/reliable left-backs for "little money" are really hard to find, they're like a dying breed. ^^^ This. Exactly.

Mark_w Posted 6 January 2015 Posted 6 January 2015 Like I said I know we can put one out there, just doesn't seem like a long term option. Don't really need a long term option right now. Get Kyle in (he'll improve us at RB or LB), he's been playing at LB at times for Spurs so we know he can do it well enough, play him LB till the summer, then make him first choice right back and bring in a new LB for next season.
davieG Posted 6 January 2015 Posted 6 January 2015 The former Sheffield United full-back is not a first-team regular under Mauricio Pochettino at White Hart Lane at the moment and he could be available, either on loan or for around £5million, during the current transfer window. It is claimed Spurs would be willing to dispense with the 26-year-old as Pochettino is not convinced with him while he has also been disappointed with his disciplinary record as the defender has been sent off twice in 10 appearances for Tottenham this season. Naughton is open to a move to the King Power Stadium and enjoyed an impressive loan spell with the Foxes in the 2010-11 season, when he scored five goals in 34 league appearances. Read more at: https://www.clubcall.com/leicester-city/naughton-tipped-to-make-leicester-return-1753908.html? He's not exactly proved a great success in the PL with spurs and for all that he did for us it was in the Championship.
yorkie1999 Posted 6 January 2015 Posted 6 January 2015 He's not exactly proved a great success in the PL with spurs and for all that he did for us it was in the Championship. I think it was more to do with kyle walker ending up being first choice.
davieG Posted 6 January 2015 Posted 6 January 2015 I think it was more to do with kyle walker ending up being first choice. Even so if he was that good surely they'd want to keep him as cover, it doesn't sound like it's him initiating transfer talk.
SlaneyLCFC Posted 8 January 2015 Posted 8 January 2015 off to swansea by the looks of it http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2901084/Kyle-Naughton-poised-join-Swansea-City-4m-DeAndre-Yedlin-trains-Tottenham-time.html
