notnow john Posted 12 January 2015 Posted 12 January 2015 As stated above Denis Irwin was right footed, but could play on both flanks and is arguably one of the Premier League’s best ever left backs. Mick Mills was also right footed, but could play on both flanks. He went on to have a great career for Ipswich and England and in the latter part of his career was almost exclusively used as a left back at club level – but still switched flanks for England. The fact you have had to trawl back nearly forty years and only found two that were genuine internationals proves very few can do it well. Only one premier league team currently use a right footed left back.
BlueTillIDie Posted 12 January 2015 Posted 12 January 2015 Good player and would of said go for it if we needed a right back but at left back maybe not, i think we should look elsewhere. However if he does come in i hope he proves me wrong!

Tielemans63 Posted 12 January 2015 Posted 12 January 2015 I'm just as good at LB as I'm at RB. But that's probably not a great endorsement as I'm a goalkeeper.
SecretPro Posted 12 January 2015 Posted 12 January 2015 Is this really the only option for LB's out there? If so I don't really see any point chasing anybody, may aswell just play De Laet at left back. almost mid month now and to be honest, other than a half hearted attempt to link city with Naughton this transfer window has been quieter than I'd like so far other than for strikers. (OK, So we got Kram, great, he'll bang them in but I still think if we are to stay up we need to strengthen majorly in some areas).
wolfgang amadeus Posted 12 January 2015 Posted 12 January 2015 Wrong. Both Chelsea and Palace use right footed LB's. Pretty sure Clichy is naturally right footed too.
Fosse93 Posted 12 January 2015 Posted 12 January 2015 Pretty sure Clichy is naturally right footed too. Nope.
katieakita Posted 12 January 2015 Posted 12 January 2015 Phil Neal was a left back who switched to the right and had a pretty good career, will leave it up to NP and his team, seems to have a pretty good record of unearthing talent
CosbehFox Posted 12 January 2015 Posted 12 January 2015 Wrong. Both Chelsea and Palace use right footed LB's. Palace have been actively looking for a replacement for 12 months. 2 out of 20 is hardly a ringing endorsement is it?

I'm sure they would have found one by now. Ward is a good player. I'd rather we went for a left footer but good LB's are a rare breed.
Dr The Singh Posted 12 January 2015 Posted 12 January 2015 Robbie Neilsen was the best right back we had after Alan Rogers

Long Eaton Fox Posted 12 January 2015 Posted 12 January 2015 Tottenhams weakness has always been their defense and now we want to sign two of their rejects. I don't think so.
Fox92 Posted 12 January 2015 Posted 12 January 2015 Denis Irwin. Right footed full back who could play both flanks, but largely used by Manchester United as a left back. He had a pretty good career there. Not saying we should sign him - he might be a bit too old by now. Pretty good!? He was excellent and is regarded very highly at Manchester United. Great shout btw.
lcfcsnow Posted 12 January 2015 Posted 12 January 2015 Seemed to me since he left us he's just been going through the motions whenever in the Spurs team, playing it safe in possession etc. He never quite progressed like Walker did.
Saxondale Posted 12 January 2015 Posted 12 January 2015 Thought Naughton was cracking when he played for last time. But do we need three right backs? Actually, Was and Moore also play RB. Hopefully he'll sell Simpson, because he's wank.
CosbehFox Posted 12 January 2015 Posted 12 January 2015 I'm sure they would have found one by now. Ward is a good player. I'd rather we went for a left footer but good LB's are a rare breed. Was listening to five live last week and the local Palace journalist was saying how Ward is clearly a good player but struggling at left back. Therefore they have been looking for a new lb all over the summer.

pleatout Posted 12 January 2015 Posted 12 January 2015 What would we give for Paul Friar now? I'm not sure Norman Leet ever "swapped over" though. I don't think he played left back either.
Jimothy Posted 12 January 2015 Posted 12 January 2015 Pretty sure Clichy is naturally right footed too. Nope. He is. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/manchester-city/9030034/Manchester-City-defender-Gael-Clichy-happy-to-be-in-the-running-to-play-against-old-rivals-Tottenham-Hotspur.html

wolfgang amadeus Posted 12 January 2015 Posted 12 January 2015 I would never have thought that. Wolfgang - I apologise, great shout! No need to apologise, not sure if he quite fits in with the others after reading that article as he's been mainly using his left foot since he was a youngster.
Jobyfox Posted 12 January 2015 Posted 12 January 2015 The point I was making is whether we think he's good enough or not is a point of debate, but saying we should dismiss him purely because he's right footed is not a great argument. I thought he was really good when he was with us before and find it difficult to believe all that potential has just gone. If we are after him then I'd trust our recruitment staff to have made a good call.
