iamafox Posted 12 December 2014 Posted 12 December 2014 Would rather have a left footed left back than a right footed one. Then again Philip Lahm is just as good on the left side.
MC Prussian Posted 12 December 2014 Posted 12 December 2014 Would rather have a left footed left back than a right footed one. Then again Philip Lahm is just as good on the left side. Imagine - in the absence of Schweinsteiger, he's also been deployed as a central defensive midfielder, too. Very versatile.
Freeman's Wharfer Posted 13 December 2014 Posted 13 December 2014 Would love Naughton back, best right back we've had in years. If we're serious about being in this division we sack RDL and/or Simpson off and get this deal done.
Mitch14 Posted 22 December 2014 Posted 22 December 2014 Might've been decent a few years back down here, but recently whenever I've seen him play he always gets caught too far up field, lets his man go past him too easily and is very error prone. Talented, but that sounds very similar to De Laet who's been absolutely rinsed on here.
Guest Bilo Posted 22 December 2014 Posted 22 December 2014 Not for me. He looked brilliant in Sven's team, but Sven's team was bobbins. Tottenham fans find Naughton far too inconsistent and error prone. We need another right-back, but I think Naughton would be overpriced and disappointing.
MrSpaM Posted 22 December 2014 Posted 22 December 2014 Might not be the most popular view on here but I think it's our center backs that need evaluating before anything else
Dr The Singh Posted 22 December 2014 Posted 22 December 2014 He won't come here, there will be a few clubs interested in him, way above our stature, at the mo!!
Christoph Posted 22 December 2014 Posted 22 December 2014 He was brilliant when he was here, probably one of the best RB's at city in a long time. He'd be brilliant here but I'd rather we get a LB than another RB.
Claridge Posted 23 December 2014 Posted 23 December 2014 De laet can actually play anywhere across the back four. He said that himself. Wish he would try right back.
Ian S Posted 23 December 2014 Posted 23 December 2014 Wish he would try right back. Far better than the present incumbent!
Harry - LCFC Posted 23 December 2014 Posted 23 December 2014 Far better than the present incumbent! The one who doesn't make calamitous mistakes? Fair enough if you still think he's better, but 'far' better he is not.
Ian S Posted 23 December 2014 Posted 23 December 2014 The one who doesn't make calamitous mistakes? Fair enough if you still think he's better, but 'far' better he is not. Were you at Upton Park, I was about 20 yards away from him when making a calamitous mistake that no one has mentioned because it did not lead to a goal, primarily because Sakho clear on the right side of our goal shot wide rather than scoring. He is no better defensively, clearly much slower as shown in the 2nd half when caught out of position and Andy King saved him, offers no attacking threat and his crosses are no better, but in his defence like De Laet suffers from any real help in front of him.As posted elsewhere when talking to Hammers fans after the game it was commented how weak and light weight our right side was.Ps he hardly covered himself in glory with the Man City goal,if that had been De Laet he would have got slaughtered because like Nugent he is our resident scapegoat at the moment.
Spicer Posted 23 December 2014 Posted 23 December 2014 Spurs have just got a work permit for Yedlin, the USA right back, they signed in the summer. So Naughton will be behind him and walker. I think we could go and get him. http://www1.skysports.com/transfer/news/11675/9618174/transfer-news-deandre-yedlin-to-join-tottenham-in-january
filbertway Posted 23 December 2014 Posted 23 December 2014 Has Gary Megson signed up to this forum? So much love for having an abundance of right backs!
gazfox9 Posted 24 December 2014 Posted 24 December 2014 Massive fan of De Laet, but if Naughton was available we'd be mad to avoid trying to land him. I would move De Laet to left back to accommodate him.
Callabinho Posted 24 December 2014 Posted 24 December 2014 Massive fan of De Laet. You're the only one.
Ian S Posted 24 December 2014 Posted 24 December 2014 You're the only one. Don't think so,see my earlier post
m4DD0gg Posted 24 December 2014 Posted 24 December 2014 How any one would not one this guy over the sham that is the footballer RDL is beyond belief. A one legged rocking horse is better than ritchie.
johnny the fox Posted 24 December 2014 Posted 24 December 2014 How any one would not one this guy over the sham that is the footballer RDL is beyond belief. A one legged rocking horse is better than ritchie. fookin hell mate.. that's a bit OTT. RDL has never given less than his best for this club...he deserves a bit more respect than that.
m4DD0gg Posted 25 December 2014 Posted 25 December 2014 He may have given his 'best'....and previously that's been OK, but at PL level RDL is definately lacking.... Exactly he sucks, all this sentiment bollocks is blindsiding a lot of folk. Most of the team and the manager are a million miles from premiership quality and unfortunately you have either got it or you aint.
Ashley Posted 25 December 2014 Posted 25 December 2014 Massive fan of De Laet, but if Naughton was available we'd be mad to avoid trying to land him. I would move De Laet to left back to accommodate him. Move a player who hasn't played there before to accommodate a player who has played left back before. Hmm.
Callabinho Posted 25 December 2014 Posted 25 December 2014 De Laet is terrible, I'd have him out at the first chance.....Naughton is miles better.
reynard Posted 26 December 2014 Posted 26 December 2014 Has Naughton played much this season? I'd heard from Spurs fans that he has gone backwards in terms of performance levels in the last 18 months or so. Frankly signing a new right back isn't one of our priorities. We need 2 strikers, 2 decent midfielders, a centre half and a left back before we even look at right backs.
MPH Posted 26 December 2014 Posted 26 December 2014 Don't think i can find much fault with Simpson, to be fair. If funds are limited, then I don't see RB as a priority.
