Going to kosice in Slovakia for two days this week. No idea what’s there but it was like £40 each return. Still scarred from being stuck in a war zone in March so will stick to some dull inoffensive European trips over summer.

Left it a bit late and decided Canada in June in WC year was a bit pricey.

So I have booked flights to Albania in a weeks time. We don't have a car or any accomodation as yet. I might do that in the airport, its a shame that Ryanair don't provide WIFI or I would use my time on the flight productively!

I reckon you are just trolling Foyle now with all last minute planning!

Albania next week, seems less of an issue last minute than Canada.

We've done last minute ish bargain flights to smaller, more local random places. It's more manageable than a trip to Canada...

Post the OH's retirement, we'd hoped to do more trips like this again but, we have to book kennels for the dog, and you have to book those early, unless it's unpopular times like November.

Canada ended up really pricey which I assume could be world cup related. Might just be that Canada has gone really expensive, but I hope not as I really want to go again and take our boy to see the wildlife.

The flights to Albania ended up £300pp so weren't cheap, but at least its cheap once there.

Great place, not huge so going for a couple of days ideal. We walked to the observation tower a bit of town, would recommend if weather is good.

Currently in albania. Love it. Cheap, friendly, so much to see. Roads are awful though.

Also its boiling at the minute, but think id rather be here in this heat than Hinckley.

Drove half way down Albania yesterday, **** me the scenery could rival Iceland. What a country.

The roads out of Tirana are some of the worst I've ever seen, genuine sinkholes on the motorway etc, but everywhere else I've been seem absolutely fine.

Durres. Once the happy clappers get wind of Albania they’ll turn it into another Tenerife/palma/hakidiki/albafueria/wherever it is happy clappers go to overpriced English speaking hotels. Would strongly suggest going now

Visited Vlore yesterday for the national park, on the way up noticed lots of beaches advertised so went down to one. Very nice, like a beach bar setup, good food, drinks, sunbeds, enormous clean beach and the water was very warm. ****ing love it here, kinda wish I was staying and not going to corfu tomorrow.

Yep good analysis. Went to the tower, steps to the top of the cathedral, various churches, the opera, a lake, botanical gardens, some decent breweries and bars. All in a perfect advert for a cheap and inoffensive Ryanair trip

Just back from Prague. What a lovely place! Beautiful architecture, nice parks and walks just outside the city, safe, clean, people were friendly and it was definitely cheaper but probably not quite the same as it was a decade ago.

Went there in October after a 10-year hiatus. It's a beautiful city, with way way way too many tourists. I found the prices to be surprisingly cheap around the center compared to what I expected (living in Copenhagen).

A decade ago the price difference between the main roads/central areas and slightly off-center cafes was mindblowing.

The whole of the Balkans is like this and there are still countless places hardly touched by tourism. Bosnia, Kosovo, Western Bulgaria and Northern Greece in particular have incredible scenery.

Anglesey for a week in September. Self catering accommodation is a fraction of the cost compared to lots of UK destinations, especially if you're looking for dog friendly.

It's not an area I've ever visited so, looking forward to it and it'll probably be the last opportunity to take the pooch away for a holiday.

May well be on the list anyway but if it isn't already go to Newborough. In terms of beach settings in the UK it has to be up there. Coming through the forest is stunning and the views of Eryri across the bay are fantastic.

I'd also recommend a place called The Stores in Trearddur (a pretty bay that feels quite busy, relatively speaking) if you go up that way. Great food there.

My mate recommended Mynydd Parys, unfortunately I didn't get to see it but it's an old copper mine you can walk around.

Flying into Slovenia - and then heading on towards Trieste/Udine.

Has anyone been Slovenia? Really stuck in terms of what to do - Lake Bled, bit more remote, go to the coast. I want a good four to five days chill

Such a great part of the world. Trieste is one of my favourite cities and upper Friuili is so beautiful and really less touristy than much of Alpine Italy. Piran and Koper in Slovenia is quite nice, and the whole of Istria. There's an amazing church in Hrastovlje on the way to the coast.

I would recommend a day at Bled as it is worth a visit if you are nearby (I also got married in the castle), Triglav National Park and Trieste.

As @bovril put above, the western side of Slovenia is a fantastic area to visit.

Ljubljana is one of our favourite cities, so pretty and a lovely vibe. Lake Bled was also stunning, it's a really fabulous country.

The plan is to have a Slovenia base for four days - then drive to Piran, before making my way off to Trieste for a couple of days, Udinese playing on the Saturday and then making the journey to Milan/Bologna for journey home
