Robert Huth - signs (Official)

Wonder if Pearson is thinking about going back to the 3-5-2

Have Huth, Wasyl, Morgan as the centre backs.

Schlupp and De Laet as wingbacks.

Mahrez + 2 in the midfield.

Ulloa and Kramaric up top.

Because 3-5-2 works so well in the premier league lol

Again, I see the general elation of signing a player...

And again, I'm unsure. Is Huth now any better than what we already have? He's prone to injury (I think), clearly not wanted by Stoke and is very very slow.

He's great in the air, of course.

But I don't get signing another centre back? Who would play? Unless Pearson wants to play 3 central defenders.

For me, it still doesn't address our need for midfield creativity, or for a quality left back?

So again, Huth is ok..but doesn't excite me particularly.

He has played at the top level for a long time. I'd say he is better than what we have, so therefore worth signing.

1) And again, I'm unsure. Is Huth now any better than what we already have? He's prone to injury (I think), clearly not wanted by Stoke and is very very slow.

1) He's been a premier league centre back for some time in a Stoke team regularly achieving safety. When fit, he's better than what we have.  He's not prone to injury, he had knee injury last season and he's had to have a few operations on it to sort it out. Before that he's usually played every game each season. He's not very very slow (or at least wasn't prior to the injury), plus the pace side of it is overplayed massively. We were told Was and Morgan would be too slow... has their pace been an issue, or has it been something else?

2) Half the forum has been screaming out for another centre back. Upson might be nearing fitness but as his age it will be difficult to get up to speed and you always have the risk of it happening again. Moore has generally made a balls up in every game and it looks too soon for him at this level. Was isn't the youngest of players either and it might be asking a lot for him to play every game. Players are sometimes brought in just in case something happens, if we didn't sign him and we got a couple of injuries people would be screaming blue murder about Pearson not seeing there could be a shortage at the back.

3) No, but it covers us at the back. He's not been signed to fix the other problems.

Tbf to Col I think the injury point is a valid one. It's not that he's "injury prone" but more that we don't have time for him to work his way up to speed.

We've got 16 games left and need at least a point a game on average - any new signing needs to be able to hit the ground running.

Then again even if he collapses in training on day 1 I suppose it doesn't leave us in a worse position than we find ourselves in now.

I do get what Col is saying. It isnt really a problem position, however, Huth us proven Prem quality and is better than all of our centre backs so if that quality is available to bring in, do it.

The usual 'express some reservations' and BANG...the flock are on ya!

I was excited with the signing of Kramaric..and remain so.

I've also heard this morning that Jack Cork has been linked with Swansea..again, a player I'd like at City.

Aaron Lennon would be good for us also, IMO. But my first reaction at Huth was one of surprise really.

I suggest if he was being linked with other clubs around us, no-one would bat an eyelid. Or possibly even laff, a little.

We'll see.

I can't think of a better defender attacking and defending set pieces with PL experience that is available right now? Him and Upson are exactly the types of players we will need from now until the end of the season. This relegation battle is going to be a horrible scrap and we need to get ugly to overcome this. We've been a bit too nice at times this season and paid the price. Huth gives me confidence that in a backs against the wall job he'd throw everything at it and then some. This is a loan signing as well so if it doesn't work out it's not like we've shelled out much money.

Yeah but it's the same record, Col.

Everybody is buoyed by a new signing but for sure nobody knows for certain how he'll work out.

Your comments allow you to say: "I told you so" "I was right to be cautious" "My fears were compounded as he didn't play that well today" etc etc for the next five years in every bluddy thread!

You then, upon receipt of a post like this one, play the victim stating caution, criticism and your generally wise and experienced view of the game is vilifying you, when the truth is that you do it to yourself.

Signing a player Col is like making a bet / gambling there are too many variables right now to possibly know if he'll be a success but that doesn't mean people shouldn't be hopeful, enthusiastic and positive.

Stop murdering the joy of others!

You sound like Woody Allen!

lol

Stop over-analysing.

I'm simply saying I'm not overwhelmed.

When we signed Kramaric, I said that was a very exciting signing. Was that 'murdering joy'?

Christ! Some people do anything to make a mountain out of a molehill.

It's a football forum..about opinion. Not a 'side with everyone for fear of being unpopular' forum..

On a serious note...Villa look like signing Scott Sinclair today..Again, a player I'd love at City.

His wages though...

Are Villa flush with cash mate? I didn't think so.

Some clubs are spending to try to stay up. That's a risk, but I think it will work for the likes of Palace and West Brom.

The general feeling across the media is that McManaman, for instance, will be an excellent signing for Brom. And I agree.

Regarding Huth..well he's only on loan so I guess it won't do any harm.

But 'joy' at signing him? I'm quite non-plussed really.

Just being honest.

It has nothing to do with you expressing reservation and everything to do with virtually all the points you made being either wrong or... errrr pointless.

Some clubs are spending to try to stay up.

Yes some are.... remind me which one has spent £8m on a striker this window.

Also when was the last time he played a competitive game? Was he any good?

Yes, as I said...exciting signing. Gives me 'joy'. Now lets follow that up with a supplier of chances.

Regarding 'pointless'..it's clear that anybody that doesn't toe the party line, is 'pointless'?

The same reservations about Huth's lack of playing time can certainly be held against Sinclair as well.
