Babylon Posted 6 February 2015 Posted 6 February 2015 No. 'Must win' is a term used in football when a team is in the position we are. It doesn't have to be mathematically definite, if we lose this game it's going to be very unlikely that we'll stay up, considering the run of fixtures we have. This is what is known, in the football business, as a must win game. Well then it's a moronic football term not based on any resemblance of fact. It's not must win, we could lose this game and win the next one and we're in exactly the same position. The term "must win" has, I guarantee, already been used on this forum half a dozen times about different games already this season. It's nonsense, if they were must win why is this one must win? The fact that this is "must win" and they now clearly weren't just prove what a horse shit expression it is. We could lose the next four scramble a few results afterwards and find ourselves back in the same position. I don't know why people are so keen to add extra pressure, to an already high pressure game, or to throw in the towel. It's like people are itching to so "well that's it, it's all over". Feck that I want everyone to fight to the last second as THE actual must win game to stay up. It's my bugbear that expression I'm afraid
Bagworthblue Posted 6 February 2015 Posted 6 February 2015 To me an example of a must win game is LCFC Vs QPR last game of season. LCFC need to win to stay up. draw or lose and you are relegated. However this is only a must win to avoid releegation. Of course you could then argue it still isn't a must win as the club would still exist to play in the Championship next season. In which case a must win is a game that if you lose, the team no longers exists for whatever reason although now i'm just typing a load of meaningless unecessary trash!
Dan Posted 6 February 2015 Posted 6 February 2015 the 1 guarantee is we will be ousting by palace , loud as fook Not good enough. They were always no marks in that department. Time for us to take a leaf out of their book.
Babylon Posted 6 February 2015 Posted 6 February 2015 If people aren't identifying tomorrow as one of the wins we need to stay up, i'd like to know which games they are? Any 5 of what's remaining.
SystonFox Posted 6 February 2015 Posted 6 February 2015 Fvck that tinman club and it's fake ultras. Did you cry at wemberleeee???
Babylon Posted 6 February 2015 Posted 6 February 2015 Poppycock Bae. Choosing the most recent games isn’t being selective. If you want to analysis our chances of winning tomorrow’s home game it doesn’t make sense to analysis games that happened 5 months ago Also, it’s hard to be selective when he hasn’t scored for 19 consecutive games. That’s being scientific. It’s you who is being selective by choosing to focus on the single game that Vardy did actually score a goal. Ancient History. If your boss came to you and said you’d done no work for 5 months, would you say : “You’re just being selective. I did some work back in September last year”. You seem content to allow Vardy to dine out on that single game indefinitely. Now that’s what I call Being Selective : Volumes 1, 2 and 3. Most recent games? You're going back to November the bloody 1st!!!! Funnily enough, stopping one game short of where he started in a game we scored two goals. I wonder why! Whilst excluding away games where he's also played in a load of games where we scored goals. A damn site more recently than November the 1st as well.
billyn88 Posted 6 February 2015 Posted 6 February 2015 really like this team, looks a much more quality side than started against man u, wish pearson would follow your lead. I want this but swap Nugent for ulloa. He's hardly been prolific but he's had more of an eye for goal than any of our other strikers. Wouldn't be disappointed with Nuge feeding Kram though. I quoted the wrong post.. I meant the one before...

Thats why we are a massive 3pts adrift. This is a game we need a result from to aid our cause. But like you say we could drop the points and be in the same situation next week. Unlike a lot on here I still feel this season is still in our hands. And we still have enough of the so called easy games sides around us have far worse run in's than we do.
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 6 February 2015 Posted 6 February 2015 We do need to win this game, or we will lose more ground.
justfoxes Posted 6 February 2015 Posted 6 February 2015 Going for a city win be a tight game goals scored in last half hour so I'm going for a 3-1 city win
harpendenfox Posted 6 February 2015 Posted 6 February 2015 Regardless of whether tomorrow is a must win, quite nice to win, important to win, almost must win, virtually must win or whatever, few can deny that it is a massively important game. We have to show positive intent. We have to create opportunities, and sure, although technically we don't have to win it, we as near as damn it do. Not sure what my mood will be like 24 hours from now
Lasty Posted 6 February 2015 Posted 6 February 2015 Biggest game of the season so far by a long way. The matches will really start running out on us soon so any side in the bottom half that visits us from here on in needs to be seen off. Or at least not doing one with all three points in their back pocket.
Guest Col city fan Posted 6 February 2015 Posted 6 February 2015 The term 'must win' is a relative term. Factually, of course, it's nonsense. Or at least, it's nonsense at the present time. We could lose tomorrow, then go on a run of ten straight wins, and be more than safe. But 'must win' tomorrow is more a psychological thing. We are playing one of our relegation rivals, at home, so if we beat them, it will give our lads a real boost. To beat Palace will make our team think that they can go and beat any of the teams around us. I think 'a 6 pointer' is a more relevant term, because if we lose, we are 6 more points off Palace. I think Nigel will be saying to his players tomorrow 'this lads, is a game we NEED to win'. We need to win, for points, and we need to win against our relegation rivals.
biggs Posted 6 February 2015 Posted 6 February 2015 Not for the team but it's a must win for me or I'll be a miserable bastard around the house all weekend

Agree - it's also a must-win in the sense that our next games are tough tough games. This is 'must-win' in the context of our 5 or 5 games taken together.
AKCJ Posted 6 February 2015 Posted 6 February 2015 It's must win because we can't afford to give us another 3 points to a relegation rival. We've got plenty of games where we're not likely to win coming up, so winning (as it's the 'most winnable' fixture for a while) will give us a great chance of staying in touch with our rivals and thus a great chance of staying up. It's unrealistic to say that we can win against the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea, it's not to say that we can beat Palace especially at home. To give ourselves a realistic chance of staying up we need to win the games that give us a realistic chance of 3 points. If we go down it'll be because we haven't picked up enough points in our 'realistic' home fixtures. This is why they're "must win", even if the term isn't correct by definition.
Guest seanfox778 Posted 6 February 2015 Posted 6 February 2015 Must win for me. We obviously have every chance of staying up if we lose but I wouldn't be happy with a point at home to Palace, it's one of the few games we have this season with a very real chance of getting 3 points. No disrespect to them as in my opinion they're a lower mid table team. It's one of those games where if we win it'll be an unbeatable feeling of joy and if we lose I'll question whether life is worth living haha.
Fox Ulike Posted 6 February 2015 Posted 6 February 2015 Most recent games? You're going back to November the bloody 1st!!!! A damn site more recently than November the 1st as well. No i'm going back to October (the bloody) 4th when we scored two against Burnley! Your argument is ridiculous. I'm saying we've scored 1 goal in 7 and you're saying that things were different before that. Well of course they were! The bad run starts when it starts. It doesn't start before it starts! If a team wins 1 in 7 games, you don't say "Well thats wrong cos they didnt lose the game before those 7 games started". Try plugging that into your calculator, Maths Boy.
st albans fox Posted 6 February 2015 Posted 6 February 2015 We can't lose tomorrow - reason being we will be 9 points behind palace and almost definitely won't catch them up before the end of the season. That's one less team we can finish above. A draw keeps us in touch with them. Would be a shame to miss out on three points but it's not the 'end of the world' A win puts us within 3 points of them and, crucially, applies pressure to them as they are then only 3 points clear of the bottom. Pressure does strange things to teams. So avoid defeat at all costs and a win would be fantastic.
FoxinNotts Posted 6 February 2015 Posted 6 February 2015 I'd like to see us try this lineup for this one; Schwarzer. Simpson Wasilewski. Morgan. De Laet. Mahrez. Cambiasso. James Schlupp. Ulloa Kramaric.
Finn Claw II Posted 6 February 2015 Posted 6 February 2015 Poole Grayson Watts Walsh Whitlow Parker Izzet Lennon Taylor Heskey Claridge - apols if this side has been mentioned before
Bagworthblue Posted 6 February 2015 Posted 6 February 2015 Is it a must win game then? I think so stop it !
