Crystal Palace Pre-Match Thread

I don't think there are any more chances after this game. We have got 3 away games after this: Arsenal, Everton and Man City.

If we don't win tomorrow then we'll be cut adrift after the man city game. 27 games played and 17 points. There will be no coming back from that.

This is a "must MUST win" game if ever there was one. Mathematics have got nothing to do with it Einstein :)

The key phrase being "I don't think", maths doesn't think or presume it just is. So actually mathematics has everything to do with it, that's the point of maths, it's factual.

You're presuming a) all the other teams pick up points to cut us adrift b) we fail to beat Arsenal, Everton or Man City and c) that we fail to claw back enough points over our much easier run of games, when others are coming up against the bigger teams like we will have just done.

It's an important game, 3 points would be huge, 0 points would be a kick in the balls... but what it isn't is must win. We could go to Everton and pick up three points and by the end of Man City we'd be still sat on the same number of points you think we will be if we beat Palace and lose the other three.

Can you imagine any other team benching their top goal-scorer to play a striker who hadn't scored for 18 games?

That's what we did against stoke.

And we did it against Liverpool and we got robbed a win with a great performance.

So 62% of all out goals have come with Vardy on the pitch. Even discounting United, 50% of our goals have come with him on the pitch.

I'm not saying I would play him, but your stats above about only scoring in one of those games with Vardy on the pitch are twisting the full picture a bit.

Not at all it’s your stat you’ve twisted I just did the legwork and found it for you… .  13 goals for Vardy is less than Schmiecal… 14!

My stat covers the last 7 home games and identifies a statistical dearth of goals when Vardy has been on the pitch.

As you’ve now re-branded yourself as the Pythagoras of Foxestalk I thought you’d have realised that J

Yes bravo, you selected a selection of games that suits what you wanted to say, discounting everything that went before it knowing very well it would show something else. Congrats... and you think I've twisted it? lol

Vardy shouldn't be starting, but just picking out a few games and leaving out what you know we go against the point is just selective.

This is the first must win games we have to win , followed by all the other games against the teams around us including , hull , , west brom Sunderland , burnley, qpr .

Maybe possible Newcastle and Southampton ??

And possible shock win. Last few games ,

We have got grind a result tomoz

Up the city .

The fans have to the 12th MAN at the game !!!!

I'd say Hull away was more of a must win.

I agree tomorrows game is big though. A win would be delifghtful to, not only for obvious reasons but Hull are away at Manchester City and should get stuffed. QPR, though their home form is good, are playing a good side in Southampton and Burnley are at home to West Brom which won't be easy.

Chance of getting off the bottom this week.

Forget the stats, watching every game tells you that Vardy has been very poor this season.  He has offered very little else apart from the Utd game.  What makes it worse when he's played out of position when we have players with more skill and a better touch not even getting on the pitch.

I don't like to Pearson bash but for someone who appears opened minded and willing to adapt to changes off the pitch regarding video technology, sports science, scouting reports, stats, he is very close minded when it comes to his player selections even when it's clear to the fans/commentators/pundits/reporters where and what the problems are.

We know that, Pearson knows that too.

Vardy was played for his pace with the obvious game plan being to counter via Vardy/Schlupp.

On the day it didn't work, Utd were highly motivated (regardless of indifferent performance levels over the season they still have some of the world's best talent)  and we barely got a kick until they took their foot off the gas

Can see myself being incredibly nervous for this tomorrow, I honestly think if they had Jedinak & Bolasie playing we'd probably lose, but with those two not available I rate our chances of a win much higher now. They have been the two players, who have gave us the most trouble in recent times against them.

I'd go with...

Schwarzer

Simpson

Morgan

Wasilewski

De Laet

Albrighton

James

Hammond

Schlupp

Kramaric

Ulloa

Subs - Hamer, Konchesky, Cambiasso, Drinkwater, Mahrez, Nugent, Vardy

I've not said anything contrary to that, what I've said is that It is not "must win", it's a nonsense saying trotted out all bloody season long, we've already had about 8 "must win" games according to a load of people on here.  It's must win when it's mathematically impossible if we don't. What it actually is, is a very bloody important game. But, should we fail there are still enough changes to get ourselves out of it.

No. 'Must win' is a term used in football when a team is in the position we are.

It doesn't have to be mathematically definite, if we lose this game it's going to be very unlikely that we'll stay up, considering the run of fixtures we have.

This is what is known, in the football business, as a must win game.

Pack the midfield -  Schlupp wingback Marhez to link up with front 2. Easy 2-0 winners

Hamer

Simpson
Morgan
Wasilewski
Schlupp

Mahrez
James

Cambiasso
Hammond

Kramaric
Ulloa

Gonna be a blazing game - even NP said "It's not going to be a quiet game" - also alluded to starting Albrighton ... should be a cracker - cant wait

2-1 win

but could be a goal frenzy either way

lol Fair enough.

When I type Riyad on chrome there's a squiggly line but it accepts Riyadh, thought that may be it.

Could be something to do with it being the capital of Saudi Arabia

Poppycock Bae.

Choosing the most recent games isn’t being selective. If you want to analysis our chances of winning tomorrow’s home game it doesn’t make sense to analysis games that happened 5 months ago

Also, it’s hard to be selective when he hasn’t scored for 19 consecutive games. That’s being scientific. It’s you who is being selective by choosing to focus on the single game that Vardy did actually score a goal. Ancient History.

If your boss came to you and said you’d done no work for 5 months, would you say : “You’re just being selective. I did some work back in September last year”.

You seem content to allow Vardy to dine out on that single game indefinitely. Now that’s what I call Being Selective : Volumes 1, 2 and 3.

If palace play 4-5-1 (likely) we need to match up tomorrow with Cambiasso, James and Hammond central as they will bully us otherwise

I'd suggest if they play 2 up top (unlikely) , I'd still have those 3 in midfield but also go 3 at the back with Huth to add some grit and have Schlupp and DeLaet / Albrighton as wing backs with Hammond dropping into a back 4 if a centre back gets dragged wide. This will allow us to play 2 strikers.

Or if they do play 2 up top, we may just want to stick to 4-4-1-1 and match them up but main danger tomorrow is getting bullied in midfield. Not that it should ever happen  but tomorrow is defo not a game for Drinky and King

Have you checked out the fixtures for the other 5 clubs in the bottom 6.

Rather have our fixtures than most of the others in the bottom 6.

Seems to me most on here think we are the only side facing a few teams from the top half.
