davieG Posted 25 February 2015 Author Posted 25 February 2015 25 February 2015Last updated at 09:28 1.2K 2022 World Cup: Fifa rules out compensation for unhappy clubs Fifa says it will not pay compensation to clubs and leagues unhappy about plans to play the 2022 Qatar World Cup in November and December. It also said no apology was necessary for the scheduling of the tournament, which will disrupt a number of leagues. Richard Scudamore: "It's the European leagues that are suffering the most" "There will be no compensation," said Fifa secretary general Jerome Valcke. "There are seven years to reorganise." Fifa's executive committee will meet in Zurich next month to ratify the taskforce's recommendation. Valcke also suggested that a 2022 World Cup final on 23 December was looking increasingly likely. Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore says a final that close to Christmas will cause havoc with the traditional festive club programme, while Fifa vice-president Jim Boyce wants it played a week earlier. But Valcke says European governing body Uefa and other confederations are keen on Friday, 23 December, although 18 December is also a possibility. Valcke also confirmed the 2022 World Cup will be four days shorter as a "concession" to leagues and clubs - 28 days instead of the usual 31 or 32 - and that the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations will move to June from January.'It's not perfect, we know that'Speaking at a news conference in Doha on Wednesday, Valcke admitted the situation was "not perfect" but added: "Why are we talking about compensation? It's happening once, we're not destroying football. "Why should we apologise to the clubs? We have had an agreement with the clubs that they are part of the beneficiaries. It was $40m (£26m) in 2010 and $70m (£45m) in 2014. We are bringing all our people to enjoy the sporting and financial results of the World Cup."'Clearly there will be fixture challenges'Scottish Football Association chief executive Stewart Regan has added his voice to those lamenting the impact a winter World Cup will have on leagues and clubs around the world. "We will look at the knock-on effects of the decision and how it will affect Scottish football," he said. "Clearly there will be fixture challenges for leagues across the world. "We have been expecting this decision for some time, but it is going to run late into December and just how close to Christmas it gets is something that needs to be thought through."
Itsthejoeker Posted 25 February 2015 Posted 25 February 2015 So Nov/Dec world cup followed by Jan AFCON?
Wycombe Fox Posted 25 February 2015 Posted 25 February 2015 Scottish Football Association chief executive Stewart Regan has added his voice to those lamenting the impact a winter World Cup will have on leagues and clubs around the world. "We will look at the knock-on effects of the decision and how it will affect Scottish football," he said. Trust me, it won't.
davieG Posted 25 February 2015 Author Posted 25 February 2015 So Nov/Dec world cup followed by Jan AFCON? " the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations will move to June from January".
Nalis Posted 25 February 2015 Posted 25 February 2015 I guess teams playing on a summer league format (Russia/Scandinavian countries, etc) have to suffer every 2 years for tournaments so why shouldn't we on this odd occasion? If it was decided that the 2022 World Cup would be a winter World Cup before the bidding process begin then fair enough as other countries could have displayed their bids to cater for such a World Cup. What I dont agree with is the whole 'Give Qatar the World Cup, worry about the temperatures, staging months etc later!' approach.
Itsthejoeker Posted 25 February 2015 Posted 25 February 2015 " the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations will move to June from January". I should probably read the full article! Is it not hot in Africa in the summer?
ScouseFox Posted 25 February 2015 Posted 25 February 2015 world cup in the run up to christmas sounds pretty cool to me tho
Dan Posted 25 February 2015 Posted 25 February 2015 this lot are an utter disgrace. They allow the cup of nations to disrupt our leagues every time yet completely back down on their reasoning for that by moving ACON to June, when they move a World Cup to that time for the exact same reason? It's either too hot or it isn't. Embarrassing.
CosbehFox Posted 25 February 2015 Posted 25 February 2015 I should probably read the full article! Is it not hot in Africa in the summer? It was just pointed out me what about places like Greece, Turkey, Spain, Portugal starting their seasons in July. What's the temperature out there?

thpike Posted 29 June 2015 Posted 29 June 2015 I didn't want to create a new thread so sorry for resurrecting this one: But this article just came out today. http://prosoccertalk.nbcsports.com/2015/06/29/spanish-football-league-becomes-first-to-take-legal-action-over-qatar-world-cup-dates/ I'm wondering if other leagues will follow suit and we'll have national teams full of either A. second choice players or B. An absence of first rate national teams.
Footballwipe Posted 30 June 2015 Posted 30 June 2015 I didn't want to create a new thread so sorry for resurrecting this one: But this article just came out today. http://prosoccertalk.nbcsports.com/2015/06/29/spanish-football-league-becomes-first-to-take-legal-action-over-qatar-world-cup-dates/ I'm wondering if other leagues will follow suit and we'll have national teams full of either A. second choice players or B. An absence of first rate national teams. That would be fantastic; to see a World Cup where the top nations all sent second string or under-21 players, it would be a fantastic statement. Let's face it they're not going to have the balls to pull out, so if they could all be persuaded to leave their best players out (with the help of the players' clubs too) that would be a great two finger salute. Obviously we'd need the clubs to all start playing ball. I'm sure there's some legal rule which means it's not possible but all it'd be interesting if all of the clubs in major leagues around the world inserted a clause the player's contract that they wouldn't be released for international duty for the 2022 World Cup. It'd be utterly impossible to implement but a man can dream.
thpike Posted 30 June 2015 Posted 30 June 2015 I see both sides of this issue, and to an extend what Blatter was doing with FIFA. He did not have the support of the major Soccer powerhouses in Europe. Where soccer was created and flouishes. But, under FIFA's 1 vote rule he found a loop hole. So he begins to pour money into African and Asian countries to help them develop football, which they have very well in that aspect. In return he has THEIR support and their votes. Being that there are much more Asian and African Countries of course they want him to be in power. They want the support they believe will continue. Otherwise they would believe that many of the Top European clubs would continue to pick off their talent.
Soar Fox Posted 25 September 2015 Posted 25 September 2015 Confirmed it will start on November 21st with the final on December 18th. Will that mean we won't have any domestic football for a couple of months?
Tincy Posted 25 September 2015 Posted 25 September 2015 A month without a loss for Liverpool, grandad will be happy
lgfualol Posted 25 September 2015 Posted 25 September 2015 What a joke. I hope the world cup that year fails miserably.
Carl the Llama Posted 25 September 2015 Posted 25 September 2015 This is all assuming the WC stays in Qatar. Surely that's one of the many things under question with the FIFA enquiries currently being performed? A month without a loss for Liverpool, grandad will be happy Final straw. Ignored. You clearly have nothing constructive to ever say.
Webbo Posted 25 September 2015 Posted 25 September 2015 Won't be so bad, it'll mean English based players won't be too knackered to perform after a long season. Season reopens on Boxing day.
lgfualol Posted 25 September 2015 Posted 25 September 2015 And I thought international break for 2 weeks was lame, the gaps in the seasons kill me. It'll be even worse that straight after this world cup the AFCON will begin. We might be in the champions league and lose some quality players for ages.
Staffs Fox Posted 25 September 2015 Posted 25 September 2015 This is going to cause major disruption not only for domestic European Leagues but also the CL, You'd imagine National Teams needing the players at least 2 weeks before to prepare and the players needing at least 10 days after before returning to domestic action. You're talking no football for November and December! We have EIGHT league games in that period this season which they'd have to rearrange (not to mention LC and CL games for clubs) Season to start in July and end in June I imagine.
Soar Fox Posted 25 September 2015 Posted 25 September 2015 There's nothing better aswel than having a BBQ in the summer with friends and plenty of beer whilst watching 3 World Cup games on a Saturday in the sun.

purpleronnie Posted 25 September 2015 Posted 25 September 2015 At least we can't use the heat as an excuse when we get knocked out.
