January Targets

Recommended Posts

I see our Norwegian friend, The Cunning (linguist) Fox is speculating that City have made (and Kilmarnock have accepted) a £400k bid for Kris Boyd. Now I, for one, can't believe that Boyd would come to a Championship club like us, languishing in the lower reaches, with no prospect of promotion this season - or even play-off possibilities. He's top scorer in the Scottish Premiership and I'm sure the likes of Rangers, Celtic and Hearts would only be too happy to acquire him (especially for a figure of £400k). Even if they don't, theres a few English Premiership clubs who desperately need a scoring striker - and Championship clubs like Wolves (who TCLF has mentioned) who are likely to be in the play-offs.

I would be only too happy to find Boyd is coming to us, but just can't see it !!

I for one wouldn't, and i'm probably in the minority here. But he's a Scottish striker who's only scored goals in the SPL. Something De Vries did with ease. I'll add a few more to that, James McFadden? Stevie Crawford? The best Scottish striker is Kenny Miller, whilst having a couple of 20+ goal seasons, he's not particularly profilic in my opinion, and thats in the Championship.

If we're going to sign a striker from Scotland, Derek Riordan would be more worth the gamble. But i'd still prefer someone from abroad or League 1 than a Scottish striker.

Has anyone seen this Boyd play anyway? What are his best attributes and does he have any pace?

Edit - No he hasn't. http://www.fourfourtwo.premiumtv.co.uk/pag...~634988,00.html So it's a big no from me :)

Weaknesses: Probably my pace. I'd like to think I'm a handful for any defender but I'm not the fastest.

Well according the BBC TV text it's Sheffield Wednesday - on that basis he's going nowhere :)

Killie reveal Sheff Wed Boyd bid o.gif_41134128_boyd270.jpgFalkirk 1-2 Kilmarnock Kilmarnock have accepted a bid from Sheffield Wednesday for striker Kris Boyd, BBC Scotland understands. After watching Boyd net his 17th goal of the season, Kilmarnock manager Jim Jefferies revealed the 22-year-old could be on his way to England.

Jefferies said: "We've had a very good offer from a Championship side, a big offer and the offer was accepted.

"I've never had an offer from Rangers. Maybe the chairman knows something I don't know but he keeps me up-to-date."

Boyd is out of contract in the summer and the Ayrshire side would rather cash in on their star asset when the January transfer window opens than lose him for nothing at the end of the season.

Rangers have been strongly linked with the player, who is a self-confessed fan of the Ibrox club.

And Sheffield Wednesday, who are managed by Scot Paul Sturrock, may not be such an attractive option since they are struggling at the wrong end of the table.

"It will be a great offer for the club but it has to suit Kris Boyd. You can't force people to go," added Jefferies.

"We accepted an offer from Cardiff just before the season got under way and he didn't go there and this is a bigger offer than that."

I'd like to see a Goalkeeper come in or Henderson given a run.

A right winger as Sylla is pants.

Possibly a striker as well, maybe Helguson on Loan as he's good in the air and on the floor plus knows the championship well from his time at Watford.

David Martin from MK Dons. I think we need to sign a young keeper so that it puts pressure on that clown we currently have who I hope will be got rid of and then either Henderson or a youngster can be given the chance.

This lad is highly rated and Liverpool are looking at him.

Lee Trundle should quit playing for every welsh club and come east to leicester

He stated himself that he wants to play in the Prem. And that at the age of 29.

Sorry, but people who see Trundle play for Leicester should have made that remark 10 years ago and I would've taken him with a hand kiss. It's too late now. You can't form such an old striker and in a couple of years (I give him another five, and that's a very optimistic estimation), he'll retire anyway.

Agreed to a point, but we should remember that Levein signed Mark De Vries when he was 29 - so I wouldn't rule him out just because of age.

Fawkeye on another forum. ;)

A friend of mine told me last night we have been talking to Doncaster Rovers about Michael Mcindoe. He works at Donny Rovers so should know! Although he also said blackburn and birmingham have been making enquiries. I saw the Doncaster game against Villa when Mcindoe was man of the match - He was by far the best player on the pitch, would be a good buy IMO.

i have no idea who the "fantastic four" might be, but i hope levein makes some better choices then he has in the past! the lights of Rab Douglas, Mark de vreis, and elvis Hammond are a waste of time! ok they may have potential but you normally sya words like that about players that are like 18-20 not players who are 21-25, lets hope levein thinks more of what is already there instead of what might be there in the future!

in the football league paper we are after izale macleod from mk dons and stephan pearson from celtic. if thats the case then we then need to look for a left back.

ok i aint even heard of these, and no offence but do we really want another celtic player???

Izale Mcleod's name has popped up quite abit recently , he's labled as league 1's Thierry Henry , And given MK Dons finance situation maybe we could pick him up for 300k-500k. But then again He did'nt make it at Derby and if I remember correcetly he had a stint at Sheff Utd , and he also got fobbed off there.

Someone I would look at is Deon Burton. He knows where the net is.

He wants to leave Rotherham , and a bid of around 200k would lure him away.

Only thing wrong with him though is his work rate , and we certainly dont need another lazy player.

Also Derek Riordan , his name has been mentioned no-end of times.

And he also only has a 200k price tag on him. Surely we could afford that , he would be an immense signing. :)

Heard of Stephen Pearson, Havn't we tried to sign him before? Micky tried to sign him or it might have been an attempt of Levein's when he first come not sure, I know we have been linked with Pearson before anyway.

Micky Adams tried to sign him in July 03 , I think.

We had a bid rejected , although Pearson refused to train with his club , 'cos he wanted to come here.

Celtic's bid got accepted in the end
