Max Power Posted 11 April 2015 Posted 11 April 2015 If we beat the team in 17th position's points total we'd be 16th. You need to finish ahead of three teams to stay up
The Doctor Posted 11 April 2015 Posted 11 April 2015 Look at this years league table for example, to stay up what position number do we need to be in to stay up? Oh that's right 17th.... What position is west brom in last season? Oh that's right 17th!!!! Just look at the table this year, at the moment we need to beat hulls points as they are in 17th position Because this year we're in the relegation zone so have to get past them. You need to finish ahead of three sides, insert us in last year an Norwich were the target... You need to finish above the side that ends the season in 18th, simple as

Guest ttfn Posted 11 April 2015 Posted 11 April 2015 you are funny If you beat the team in 17th that team drops down to 18th and you go into 17th You're embarrassing yourself, please please please please stop. Even if you are as indisputably right as you think you are, is it worth the 10-15 posts you've made on this?
ousefox Posted 11 April 2015 Posted 11 April 2015 08/09 - W4D3L1 09/10 - W5L3 11/12 - W3D2L3 12/13 - W2D3L3 13/14 - W5D2L1 So on average, 13.4 points - take it down to 7 games (as we've got left) and it becomes 08/09 - W4D2L1 09/10 - W5L2 11/12 - W3D1L3 12/13 - W2D3L2 13/14 - W5D1L1 Average of 12.8 points. So, average run in with pearson from here will put us on 34-35 points (or, if you include the West Ham game, 32-33 points) Thanks for that. His average form would give us a very good chance depending on who we get the wins against.
Stevosevic Posted 11 April 2015 Posted 11 April 2015 What are people on about? You don't replace a team of your choice in the division. What did WBA need to finish 17th last season? That's your answer.

87fox Posted 11 April 2015 Posted 11 April 2015 Thankyou finally somebody who has sense You twerp. How many times... As Stevosevic said: How many points did WBA need to finish 17th? Answer: WBA would still have finished 17th if they only had 33 points and -33 goal difference. That is what was necessary to finish 17th. Let that be the end of this, please!
Nalis Posted 11 April 2015 Posted 11 April 2015 If anyine needs to find an example of overcomplicating something that was easy to understand in the first place then look no further than this thread. Back on topic, I'm almost as nervous about how Hull, QPR, Burnley and Villa do in their games as I am about Leicester particularly as the first 3 could potentially pick up points depending on if they catch their opponents on an off day. That said, think after this weekend the above 4 will lose, Leicester to draw, Sunderland to draw v Palace.

It's not norwich you are trying to beat though is it? It's west brom Thatbis like saying we need to beat qpr's point at the moment, we are not trying to beat there's we are trying to beat hull's points
Benguin Posted 11 April 2015 Posted 11 April 2015 Last year if you were in the bottom 3 you'd have needed 36 points and a better GD than West brom or 37 points. HOWEVER West Brom were safe with 3 points clear, as 18th finished with 33 points West Brom only needed 33 points but got 36. So If we were 17th we only needed 33 but as we are bottom we'd need 36 if we were playing in the context of last year. You're all both retarded and right, just looking from different perspectives.
Stevosevic Posted 11 April 2015 Posted 11 April 2015 It's not norwich you are trying to beat though is it? It's west brom Thatbis like saying we need to beat qpr's point at the moment, we are not trying to beat there's we are trying to beat hull's points We were not in the league last season. The question is what number of points was needed to survive in the premier league last season? The answer is the number needed for WBA to finish 17th ahead of Norwich who finished 18th.
chapero82 Posted 11 April 2015 Posted 11 April 2015 We were not in the league last season and why are we choosing to hypothetically replace Norwich? If we replaced Chelsea we would have needed 33pts to stay up ahead of Norwich The question is what number of points was needed to survive in the premier league last season? The answer is the number needed for WBA to finish 17th ahead of Norwich who finished 18th. All my comment was that last year to survive you needed 36 points to survive to match west broms that's it Then this happened, which is true you did last year need 36 points and a better goal difference than west brom to stay up

My last post on this as there are pubs to go to
ian_marshall Posted 11 April 2015 Posted 11 April 2015 All my comment was that last year to survive you needed 36 points to survive to match west broms that's it Then this happened, which is true you did last year need 36 points and a better goal difference than west brom to stay up Not necessarily. All depends on whether or not a team was in the relegation zone or not. If not, any points or goal difference better than Norwich would have ensured that team finished ahead of Norwich but behind WBA therefore changing the position order outside of the relegation zone.If however the team were in the relegation zone, anything better than Norwich but less than WBA would simply have changed the final league table positions in the relegation zone.
chapero82 Posted 11 April 2015 Posted 11 April 2015 Look at it this way if norwich had 2 extra points would they have stayed up? That is the position we want 17th not 18th. 17th is the safety position
st albans fox Posted 11 April 2015 Posted 11 April 2015 This has turned into the pedant thread. anything better than Norwich's return was enough to stay up. End of. forget everything else. only the relegated teams are relevant. Bye
goose2010 Posted 11 April 2015 Posted 11 April 2015 Gomis just gone off for Swansea looks likes he has pulled him hamstring bit of a boost for us next week
The Doctor Posted 11 April 2015 Posted 11 April 2015 Christ, people couldn't have made the simple relegation solution (Be better than three other sides) more complicated could they...
AKCJ Posted 11 April 2015 Posted 11 April 2015 Literally only on FoxesTalk.... Last season the bottom 4 looked like this; 17 West Bromwich Albion −16 36 18 Norwich City ® −34 33 19 Fulham ® −45 32 20 Cardiff City ® −42 30 Meaning that to stay up you needed to have 33 points and a -33 goal difference or better. (or -34 and a better head to head record against Norwich) West Brom's total is irrelevant because to stay up you just have to do better than 18th place.
Xen Posted 11 April 2015 Posted 11 April 2015 We've had this discussion before... It depends on perspective. If we were in the league last season as one of the relegated trio, we would have needed to beat West broms 36 point total to overtake them and stay up. If we were put into the league as a 21st team so to speak, beating the 33 points of Norwich would have been enough. You're all right... I literally posted this yesterday... Its not a hard concept to get your head around...
weller54 Posted 11 April 2015 Posted 11 April 2015 Burnley lost to arsenal... Sunderland, Hull, lost... QPR have Chelsea tomorrow... Massive weekend!... Shame Spurs let us down, but only to be expected from those cvnts!
