ousefox Posted 23 April 2015 Posted 23 April 2015 As if by magic... “Nooooo,” Pearson says, sounding dismayed. “They’re all pandering. People whose views are swung when you get into these ridiculous debates – I think they’re all nonsense. You’ve got to have a fundamental belief, you’ve got to believe in what you believe in. If you go into something like this thinking: ‘Hmmm, I’ll see what they come up with this year ...’” Other than predicting another coalition government, Pearson’s own political views are not for public consumption. “I’m staunchly something but it’s none of your business,” he says with the hint of a smile, before suggesting it would be presumptuous to read too much into the fact that he has already disclosed he buys the Guardian. It turns out that Pearson likes to do the crossword.

Harry - LCFC Posted 23 April 2015 Posted 23 April 2015 I'm genuinely surprised by that. Wouldn't wanted to have put money on where he stood economically but I was fairly confident he'd be more of a social conservative. Mark will be delighted
The Doctor Posted 24 April 2015 Posted 24 April 2015 In my constituency, a vote for anyone but labour might as well be a vote for Gary glitter George Galloway, so labour as the lesser of two evils.
Dr The Singh Posted 24 April 2015 Posted 24 April 2015 Have voted for all of the parties during my lifetime and was certainly brought up in a labour household. There is , however, one name that haunts the thought of my ever voting Labour again and that is "Dr David Kelly" - a good and decent man hounded by the dogs of Blair/Campbell with such a tragic result. May he rest in peace. Even National Front, Looney Party and BNP?

Brizzle Fox Posted 24 April 2015 Posted 24 April 2015 Probably green only as they are the only party who have a hope in hell of getting anywhere near labour in my constituency
Guest MattP Posted 24 April 2015 Posted 24 April 2015 Who do you reckon our Nigel would vote for? Tough one, in terms of the way he manages his football teams you'd say he's a Tory, financially responsible, workers not shirkers, team ethics and you're out on your ear if you aren't going to put into the cause. Born in Nottingham and a life in Sheffield screams Labour though, he certainly wouldn't buy into the Labour party now though with it's weird militant PCness and culture of being desperate to be offended. Showed again how smart he is mind not to tell people who he votes for. Why alienate people from a public position when you don't have too? Watching The Last Leg. Nick Clegg is a guest. He is the only party leader that agreed to come on. Who am I voting for? Jonor Green Ashworth is safe in the seat. I may do a protest vote for Independant or green even though I have nothing against Ashworth and think he is one of the better MP'S. Do you mean Jon Ashworth? Or has he coverted to Judaism? Do you know he was one of the MP's who employed his staff on zero hour contracts? I'd have Nige pegged as either a conservative or 'old Left'. Economically left wing but not buying into any of that cultural leftist business. That's probably quite accurate. He certainly wouldn't be any sort of cultist PC modern leftie. Could see him as a 1970's shop floor leader.
ADK Posted 24 April 2015 Posted 24 April 2015 Being that he's on a six figure salary, he'd be better off financially voting Conservative. I'd imagine lower top rate income tax would make it easier to sign players on the international market too.

The top rate of tax under this government has been 45% as opposed to the 40% it was under Labour.
Finnegan Posted 24 April 2015 Posted 24 April 2015 I'd probably vote Labour if I lived in a contested seat but they're the only party I'd vote tactically for. I generally vote as far left as I can.

I'd imagine lower top rate income tax would make it easier to sign players on the international market too. That is not true. The coalition has reduced the tax burden on the lowest paid, and increased it (or maintained a top rate) on the highest. Personally I pay more tax under the Tories, and would probably continue to do so. I am happy with that, as long as I feel it is being well spent, and the economy generally is well run. If Labour came in, upped my tax bill and started pissing it up the wall, I would probably move to Australia pretty promptly.

I thought it was 50% and had been lowered to 45%, no? Actually on checking, the 50% rate came in during 2010, didn't actually know that.

Yeah they changed it just before they left office so they could then harp at the Tories for lowering it despite it being higher than it was under them. A lot of people fall for it as well. Incredible really.
Christoph Posted 24 April 2015 Posted 24 April 2015 Labour. Not that it matters. All the same dollop of shit.
bovril Posted 24 April 2015 Posted 24 April 2015 I know it's a long shot lads but I'm wondering where I can catch Dijon vs Nimes at the weekend. I know it's a politics thread but though somebody might have the answer...?

Rincewind Posted 24 April 2015 Posted 24 April 2015 I'm voting for Ventenari. I do not like the other choices.
bovril Posted 24 April 2015 Posted 24 April 2015 Actually I've changed my mind, I'm voting for Nimes. Wasted vote, they're bound toulouse.

Steve_Guppy_Left_Foot Posted 24 April 2015 Posted 24 April 2015 Pretty irrelevant where I am, Ashworth could be an apple in a red tie and it'd still win.
