LAprice_ Posted 18 May 2015 Posted 18 May 2015 When you look at the big clubs in this country, it's very difficult to see how we'd ever win the Premier League. Teams like Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City are able to spend more on a back-up left-back than we can afford on a first team super star. That doesn't mean to say it's impossible AND with the right management, there is no reason why a club shouldn't look to build up to league winning standard. Personally, I think that for us to ever be in contention we'd need to continue building for the next 7 years. Minus the Sousa and Eriksson blip, I'd consider this the halfway point for Pearson. Club development is a slow process that we don't see very often because money-minded owners look to find instantaneous solutions. Unless we are suddenly awarded 1 billion pounds, I suggest we wait.
st albans fox Posted 18 May 2015 Posted 18 May 2015 is it a slow day? i'm assuming the OP was serious or he wouldnt have written it. the inevitable piss takes that have followed are ............ inevitable. nigel will NEVER win the PL. not because he isnt capable (we will never find that out) - but because he will never get the chance to manage a club that can.
jim5000 Posted 18 May 2015 Posted 18 May 2015 If he can get us going on a run like this I don't see why we can't challenge in the top 5. Pearsons teams have habits, when they start winning they dont stop. Only problem is when they start losing they don't seem to stop either!

Claridge Posted 18 May 2015 Posted 18 May 2015 He won us the League One title. He won us the Championship title. Could he, just, could he really win us the Premiership title.....................? Hope not as we would have to play bloody foreigners every wednesday in that tinpot champions league

bovril Posted 18 May 2015 Posted 18 May 2015 Hope not as we would have to play bloody foreigners every wednesday in that tinpot champions league Not if we pull out of the EU.
cc_star Posted 18 May 2015 Posted 18 May 2015 No for so many reasons! As you climb the table there is a very real prospect of playing in the Europa League, so you need to expand your squad, play more games. Almost always finish the Europa season with fewer points I'm pretty sure the Europa League's format is the way it is as a protectionist racket to prevent upwardly mobile clubs from crashing the top 4 & CL qualification from one of the established top 4. It's a fantastic barrier to building on a great season, and maybe cracking the top 4
mundella boy Posted 18 May 2015 Posted 18 May 2015 He won us the League One title. He won us the Championship title. Could he, just, could he really win us the Premiership title.....................? Calm down mate, we only just stayed up
Izzy Posted 18 May 2015 Posted 18 May 2015 Never in a month of Sunday's. He's got more chance of flying to the moon...on an ostrich.
HighPeakFox Posted 18 May 2015 Posted 18 May 2015 I believe that a proportion of posters here are rather unhappy individuals.
ian66 Posted 18 May 2015 Posted 18 May 2015 It's a forgone conclusion in my opinion..... very boring and predictable!!
shailen Posted 18 May 2015 Posted 18 May 2015 Even if he does, people will still jump on the "Pearson Out" bandwagon.
MC Prussian Posted 18 May 2015 Posted 18 May 2015 I believe that a rather large proportion of posters here are rather unhappy individuals. At least we're no Bentleys Roof (yet).
Brooksy Posted 18 May 2015 Posted 18 May 2015 That hackneyfox and the rest of the BR ****** would still want him sacked because a couple of defeats prove he is tactically inept apparently.
Izzy Posted 18 May 2015 Posted 18 May 2015 I believe that a proportion of posters here are rather unhappy individuals. I believe you're wrong. I'd say realistic rather than unhappy. Saying NP won't win the PL with us doesn't mean we're unhappy FFS!
Captain... Posted 19 May 2015 Posted 19 May 2015 To be honest, and I know this thread is a little tongue in cheek, he couldn't because of who he is, or more importantly who he isn't to attract top players you need a bigger reputation as a club and as a manager. He could win the league with Liverpool because of their name, we could win the league with a huge amount of backing and someone like Mourinhio in charge. (Both scenarios are highly unlikely). As it stands we will never be able to attract the players needed to win the league because we are an unfashionable club with an unfashionable manager, any truly world class players we develop will be targeted by other clubs and we wouldn't be able to replace them. The realist in me says no chance and even with a world class manager able to attract big name players and the money to spend to afford them we would only have the very slimmest of chances. Sad but true.

Sampson Posted 19 May 2015 Posted 19 May 2015 Are there many managers or any who have won titles at 3 different levels of English football? Obviously not suggesting he will, just curious. Alf Ramsey at Ipswich Town is the only manager to take a side from the third tier to being English champions.
gurru991 Posted 19 May 2015 Posted 19 May 2015 The EPL is structured so that only six teams are in a position to win it all. The other 14 are just there for show. Teams like Man U have a 150 mill signing budget each year & Chelsea have 25 players out on loan. It take big money to win in the EPL.
HighPeakFox Posted 19 May 2015 Posted 19 May 2015 I believe you're wrong. I'd say realistic rather than unhappy. Saying NP won't win the PL with us doesn't mean we're unhappy FFS! I agree with your final sentence. However, my original point was more a comment on the unpleasant way people post, rather than on the content.
