Don't rate Van Gaal at all... spent an absolute fortune and I'm struggling to see how the side is much better than the one Moyes had put together... just so unbalanced..

I slagged Moyes off, I thought he was awful at Man Utd, out of his depth, however in comparison with Van Gaal, Moyes was shit on, simple as that.

Van Gaal hasn't done an awful lot better than Moyes, ok he's got them back in the Champions League - Only because the standard of the league has either dropped/the 'gap' has closed, the league is closer and tighter now - whichever way you want to look at it.

Spot on. One out of form centre forward, no wingers (perhaps Ashley Young - but he's slow, predictably cuts in every time, can't beat a man), and one fit centre back. They're ok in the advanced centre mid position though!

West Ham enjoyed an away day win at Liverpool on Saturday

There have been only nine home victories in the 40 Premier League games played so far this season.

Manchester City, Southampton and Swansea were the only teams to win on their own patch over the weekend; never before has a Premier League season started with so little success for home sides.

In what has been an unpredictable start to the campaign, only Manchester United, Manchester City (twice), Liverpool, Crystal Palace, Leicester City, Southampton and Swansea (twice) have been victorious at home.

Away teams have generally come out on top so far this season

However, the results are indicative of a wider trend in English football, as revealed by a Sky Sports study in August.

The study – which included all professional results since the Football League was founded in 1888 – found that home advantage is on the decline. The percentage of home games to have been won by the host side has fallen from its 65 per cent peak in 1895 to a low of 42 per cent in 2012/13.

Even in 1950, when the number of games per season rose from 1,848 to 2,028, the home side won 53 per cent of games – but that average percentage has continued to fall over the last 65 years.

The decline of home wins and the rise of away wins is a long-term trend

Last season saw the previous low of home wins after each team had played four Premier League games - 12.

While home advantage has declined, away wins have begun to rise. Last season produced the highest share of away wins since the Football League was founded. Nearly a third of all games across England's top four division (31 per cent) ended with victory for the away side in 2014/15.

Premier League results in the opening four weeks of the season indicate these trends are continuing.

Among the most surprising results so far are West Ham's away day triumphs at Arsenal and Liverpool and Crystal Palace's win at Chelsea, while Manchester United and Tottenham have both been frustrated at home.

Will the trend continue throughout the season?

Like you said Pellegrini was a 'fraud' last season? What a crap term.

Pellegrini did not do well for them last year. Credit to him on how he's got them going this season but still early days.

Van Gaal has been absolutely shit for Man Utd.

Blatantly looking for an Inler replacement in terms of shooting and must've caught our game with Watford. One of the best strikes of a ball you'll ever see.

Makes me laugh in Fellaini being chosen as a forward.

Seems that everytime he attempts to get the ball, he commits a foul! lol

Finally got round to watching MOTD. How long does this standard of officiating have to go on before something gets done about it? Kevin Friend and Neil Swarbrick should be absolutely ashamed.

I think that there has to come a time when referee's explain a decision.

If you look at the Noble one, what realistically could the referee have sent him off for? Not for excessive force as the tackle had barely any energy in it. It wasnt studs up or endangering the opponent because he toe end nicked the ball away from Danny Ings. And certainly wasnt two footed, because it just wasnt two footed.

At least if the referee explained what he thought he saw, you can make a legitimate argument for the dismissal.

Theres a total lack of consistency in decisions as well. Afellay is sent off for a reaction to being fouled a few times and having a hand in his face. Then puts his hand to Gardner's face and gets sent off (although Charlie Adam was a daft boy and deserved his red card). Yet our own Robert Huth shoves an opponent over, then endangers him quite deliberately by drilling the ball at his face and then puts his hand blatantly into an opponents face all within 20 seconds and gets a yellow card.

Cant remember the Newcastle player that did Monreal, but it was a booking, and it was nasty. Then Mitrovic puts a nasty one in and gets a straight red. Surely they should both be handled the same way, they are identical incidents. And if the referee saw one but not the other, then why?

Where is the consistency? I might be more inclined to see the referees point of view if he explained what he saw at the time, but it just looks a shambles at the moment.

Players can also help themselves out though by not doing daft things like getting themselves booked for stopping throwins and such like.

Agree entirely with that Donut. I can sympathise with officials to an extent but when there is such bizarre and inexplicable inconsistency going on you've seriously got to wonder what's causing it. Look at incidents like Pantilimon against Leicester and explain why the ref hasn't given it, despite it being absolutely blatant, despite him having a clear view, and he just plays on? I just don't get how anyone can sit there and not wonder if there's something far more sinister at work.

This is what is wrong with Man Utd at the moment, and if Van Gaal can't see this, he shouldn't be manager of Man Utd.

From a neutrals perspective, surely they should have signed another centre half or 2 by now? Having blind faith in Chris Smalling isn't the answer.
