Nugent to boro?

Personally wouldnt want to see him leave very fond of Nuge, both as a player and as a person! I think it is plain to see that he isnt going to feature this season, which to many of us is a shame, some seem to have a slightly lower opinion of him, despite him scoring 22 goals in all competitions when we were crowned as champions (evidently Championship may be his level).

Unsure about his stance on leaving tbh as I know he is very fond of the club and the fans, maybe a loan switch until January and see how things panned out? He is out of contract next summer though, so maybe us taking the ££ may be best for all concerned.

As much as his goal return for some leaves a lot to be desired, I still rate him highly for his work rate and dedication.

If it does come to pass he leaves, he will be missed, best of luck Nuge!

We all know most transfers are gambles... 10million for Austin would be a gamble worth taking. Considering how many he bagged playing for a dire qpr team, do you think Okazaki was overpriced ? 7mill ish, 3 years older and has an inferior goal scoring record?

We currently have 27 players on the books.

2 are under 21, 2 are out on loan (inc Hamer) and 1 is a long term injured. Leaving us 23.

25 is the right number, and I think we should have 5 strikers in this. You won't get a better standard of striker for our fourth and fifth spots than Nuge and Ulloa. They will get their chance this season. I think he'll be a real loss in the team moral and character.

Great servant to the club, played well in the Premier league for us last season but never going to be prolific at this level but will always chip in with loads of assists (watch him in the last 2 Championship seasons DVDs) he loves playing and at 30 he needs to be playing, if he does go City fans should always respect him and stop all this 'negative' talk about him...

Up the City.....

Talk about over exaggeration, he was great for us in the championship. So you either have a bad memory because Beckford was far worse or you only started supporting us last season when we went up![/quote

Beck ford a worse finisher than Nugent over their respective careers.idiot

Were you not here when we had akinibiyi up top? Then all the other poor fInishers, Hammond, Hayles, Cort, Benjamin, Cadameteri, Connelly (wasn't that bad actually) the list goes on.

Nugent has been a great servant for us, I still think he has a lot to offer, but obviously Ranieri thinks otherwise. Great guy on and off the field, lovely family too. Will miss him.

I was a bit over the top.worst finisher ever in the prem? Good from outside the box but in it he's useless

I think some people are forgetting that we have also had the likes of Roman Bednar, Nathan Blake and Mark De Vries play upfront for us down the years as well!  :nigel:

Do people forget? Ever since Dickov left we always wanted a striker who could score 15/20 goals at Championship level and in Nugent we got that. Even with that, and Nugent scoring at least 15 per Championship season here (including 20 when we won the league), people still moan.

I've always like Nugent and still think he is our best natural finisher. But it's probably the right time for him to go and it's very good business for the Club with only a year or so left on his contract. I wish him well at Middlesbrough and I know he'll get plenty of Goals for them.

Not really - small upgrades cost 2 or 3 times that.

For a 30 year old in the last year of his contract, you don't think that's a great fee? Right...

That's great, for all parties concerned.

Middlesbrough are a great club for him, keen to get automatically promoted and Nugent keen to do another club get up again.

Would be a bit gutted to see him go to be honest.

He's been here 4 years and has been a big part of the team for most of that time.

159 appearances and 54 goals for us including 20 in the promotion season and was involved quite heavily (if overlooked by most) in our great escape last season.

Also one of the best characters to have around the ground and clearly popular among the other players.

£4 million is a good price but I'd much rather keep him as a squad player.

a 30 year old is not that old.

And we are no longer a selling team.

I think you underestimate how good a player he is and how silly money is at he moment in the prem.

I'd be sad to see him go ... but can see that to make progress you have to trim the players that don't feature and replace with players better than those featuring.

It's a ruthless reality of improvement.
