Nugent to boro?

Nugent has proved himself excellent value to us but I really can't imagine him being first choice very often this season.

It seems as if we're competing fairly fiercely to improve our team and we'll be needing our new or existing strikers to lift our goals return in this and the coming seasons if we're to have any chance of realising our immediate ambitions of improving our position in the Premiership and qualifying for European football.

I don't see Nugent as having either the playing time or quite the ability to do that for all his usefulness - hence my view that £4 million is an excellent offer and return on investment as well as being a worthwhile contribution towards further investment.

Accepting such an offer at this stage of his contact situation makes good business sense and I trust we'll see more of it both now and in the future because i don't know that we've made the best of our assets in the recent past. It's all about the timing really and with Nugent, the time is right and I imagine he'd leave with everyone's sincere thanks and best wishes.

£4 million is a cracking price for us, he's been very useful and important to the team but realistically he'll be well down the pecking order so to claim that level of fee is fantastic business.

This shouldn't be a surprise to Nugent, even under Pearson, as he looked to scout and then bring in new blood, he must have known his chances of regular football was coming to and end.

Like Konchesky, I have nothing but praise for Nugent. But for his own sake if he feels he wants to play more than a supporting role, then he is best to find football where this will happen and that is in the CCC. If Boro were looking to sign him before, and we can make even £2m with promotion clause, that would be a sweet deal, but if the £4m fee is true, we need to snap their hand off.

It would appear that we're going to play with pace and width. This will definitely bring results as many defenders will not live with our pace up top. Ulloa offers us the alternative of going direct or long. Equally getting on the end of crosses. Nugent for all his talent doesn't fit into this scenario and 4 million is good business.

The easiest way to consider a transfer bid is 'would I pay that for him?'

If Nugent didn't play for City would you be happy buying him for £4m?

Good point.

And sold! to the mug in the red

I think for anything close to £4m you'd have to sell considering his age and one year left on his contract.

Agree. For me though, the I'm just against changing too much too quickly when we're on a good run, in a good routine. If it ain't broke don't fix it. This goes for wholesale changes to the back room staff (which will inevitably happen).

Yeah that was my view point as well... but £4m is stupid money. Okazaki looks top class as well which puts my mind at ease a bit.

I`m a bit surprised Derby haven`t come in for Nuge.

An excellent player at championship level, and a usefull squad player in the prem, for a newly promoted club, and probably better than any of their other current forwards too.

I would imagine a move to Derby, would also probably be more appealing to him as well, because he wouldn`t have to uproot his family up to the north east.

Forest would probably be in for him, if it wasn`t for their transfer embargo.

I wish Nuge well where ever he ends up, he`s been a good player for us, who has always given his all, and helped us to where we are today.

He deserves a club that needs him more, as he always gives 110%.

Seems nice bloke out of football,, too, unlike Vardy and Simpson for starters.

How is this even a debate? Some of you just don't understand the economics of this and for those of you suggesting he goes out on loan are completely clueless.

Your 30 year old fifth choice striker with one year left on his contract?

Any fee we get is good business.

He's good business for Boro too at that price as he'll be one of the best forwards in the Championship.

Couldnt agree more. Such a down to earth guy. A story 100% I know to be true as it was my son. Nuge was in one of his fav clothes shop in town. Think he is friends with the owner, with his wife and then new born child. My son was in the changing room trying out some stuff, comes out and sees nuge and starts chatting with him and a selfie. Says to owner i will just have one item thanks. Nuge says. No worries. I will pay for them. Paid nigh on £150 and signed the reciept nuge35. What a lovely gesture and man. Deserves the v best in life and his career.

If he does go then there will be a touch of sadness because he's provided some great memories but also we're a team looking to improve the squad and so nuge I'm afraid isn't gonna make the cut

Anything above 2.5mill is good money for Nuge. I would say 3mill is a fair price. Been an excellent player for us no doubt but times have changed at LCFC and Nuge was always going to be one of the casualties of new look Leicester

I'll admit I'm personally sorry to see Nuge leave as he is a good player but I think time is right for both parties. It's not very often you see a first team player down here for so long! I would of gave him one more year though on his contract just to see what he could do with competition like this in the squad...

That is a silly way to look at it. He is settled in our squad and we know what we are going to get. He is worth more to us than he is to a buyer.

Maybe he wants regular football though?

He's been quality for us over these last few years, and while I don't want to see him go, if he wants regular starts then we owe him that. He will only be a squad player with us.

4m sounds like good business, and he will tear the championship up again.
