shen Posted 10 August 2015 Posted 10 August 2015 I don't know about more than enough, but it is a pretty good set of strikers for a decent PL club. You want four good forwards in the squad, really, and we have that. There's some variety in there, as well - 2x energetic pests, 1x target man and 1x tricky technical player. On the flip side, it could mean that one or two of our youth products might get a look in, which they would never have with 5+ strikers fighting for game time... We've lost Wood and Nugent now. We'll see a new striker coming I would imagine. Hopefully they'll use the money raised to put towards getting a top quality striker. Nugent isn't gone yet, is he?
RedSoxUK Posted 10 August 2015 Posted 10 August 2015 No, but you could argue that an injury to Ulloa would remove the option of sticking a physical presence up front. It's a luxury problem, especially if we will adopt a style that revolves around very mobile strikers. Ulloa's good, but even if there's no option of lumping it up to a target man, i'm confident in our strikers ability, specifically Vardy and Okazaki to be more physical than Ulloa. Okazaki proved v Sunderland his ability to win the ball back, challenge and win 50/50s and leap in the air to win headers. IMO, Okazaki can do Ulloa's role just without the apparent characteristics of a target man - but i see what you mean, though this problem has been here since we sold Wood then, selling Nugent bears no resemblance on the attack force unless we suffer a catastrophic injury crisis.
RedSoxUK Posted 10 August 2015 Posted 10 August 2015 4m cash in I very much doubt it will be 4m, 2m is a surprise to be honest. Likely a 2m fee and an add-on of about a mill maybe more if Middlesborough get promoted and Nugent plays 30 times with 15 goals or some shit. Middlesbrough couldn't be that stupid to pay 4m for a striker who is 30 without re-sale value.
Scotch Posted 10 August 2015 Posted 10 August 2015 Folk talking about how they would like Nugent to stick around and be a "squad player" are forgetting one very important factor...... That being,David Nugent! I'm sure at the age of 30, he would be less than happy to get a couple of games a year with a few apps from the bench. Not doubting his commitment to the club but as a true professional, I'm sure he'd much rather get a regular game for Boro in the Championship than pulling splinters out his @rse on our bench. End of the day, he has to do what's best for him.
Ed25 Posted 10 August 2015 Posted 10 August 2015 We've lost Wood and Nugent now. We'll see a new striker coming I would imagine. Hopefully they'll use the money raised to put towards getting a top quality striker. How does that work? He said we need 2 in each position? We now have 2 in each striking position but you want another? So who is leaving?
cc_star Posted 10 August 2015 Posted 10 August 2015 3 month loan you do know he's out of contract in the summer dont you Yep, get/keep him match sharp and coming back to us after banging in a few goals elswhere, when the games come thick & fast and the pitches are a bit harder work.
BrummieFOX Posted 10 August 2015 Posted 10 August 2015 Will miss Nuge but £4m seems crazy money. Can't turn that down really.
iamafox Posted 10 August 2015 Posted 10 August 2015 Nugent was a solid player for us in the Championship, not quite the same in the Premier League though. Played his part in our promotion season and scored some important goals. I don't think we'll get a higher offer than £4m so we've cashed in at the right time. Good luck to him at Boro.
Finn Claw II Posted 10 August 2015 Posted 10 August 2015 One of Sven's best signings (along with Kasper). He's been a key part of a our climb back to the top division and played his part in last season's amazing run.

They were happily going to spend £12M on Jordan Rhodes, and have spent a considerable amount this summer already. I think it's up or bust this season. Nugent would be a good option for them even at £4m.
davieG Posted 10 August 2015 Posted 10 August 2015 David Nugent: Is £4m a fair price to pay for the Leicester striker? 15:26, 10 AUGUST 2015 BY DOMINIC SHAW Boro have agreed a fee for the frontman :: Dominic Shaw looks at 30-year-old's record and how it compares with his peers 52 Shares Share Tweet +1 LinkedIn Leicester's David Nugent An £11m man, a current Liverpool striker, an in-demand poacher who’s proved he can do it in the top flight and Jordan Rhodes, of course. Also right in amongst it was David Nugent. Yes, the 2013/14 Championship season was a notable one for prolific strikers. Ross McCormack topped the pile with 28 goals, Jordan Rhodes was only three worse off, Troy Deeney, who passed 20 goals for three consecutive seasons for Watford, hit 24 and then came Danny Ings and Chris Martin. Charlie Austin was in the top 10 as well, surely destined for a move back to the Premier League before deadline day, as was Jamie Vardy, himself a newcomer to the international scene. Nugent was in good company. As for the striker in question, the striker who Boro have agreed to pay £4m for, he hit 20 goals - his best return in the league since 2004/05, when he was plying a trade for Bury in League Two. He was the top scorer for the Championship title-winners that year, leading the line as the Foxes thumped 83 goals on their way to surpassing 100 points. David Nugent No wonder, then, that Aitor Karanka had a crack at bringing Nugent to Boro on a free transfer last summer. It was a move that wouldn’t prove to be a goer. For Nugent secured a contract extension and in doing so secured a punt at Premier League football once again. Who could blame him for wanting to stay at the King Power Stadium? Nugent must have fancied his chances of seeing a fair bit of action for Nigel Pearson’s side. After all, not too many pundits or players could have predicted the way former non-league man Jamie Vardy would take to life in the Premier League. Nugent played 32 times but his goal return plunged, hitting the net just five times. Yet Leicester are now on the verge of making £4m on a man who they signed on a free transfer from Portsmouth just four years ago. It was that fee which prompted the debate this morning. The player, it appeared to be widely agreed on social media, would be a useful addition. The price, though, inflated. It does seem costly side for a 30-year-old who is out of favour and for a striker who only cost Portsmouth a couple of million more when he was a young, upcoming striker eight years ago. The market has gone mad since then, mind. Particularly when it comes to Championship promotion hopefuls on the look-out for strikers. It’s hard to gauge the going-rate for those in-demand strikers. While £4m might seem a little over the odds for Nugent, Brentford are said to be demanding £7m for Andre Gray, a striker who a little over a year ago was playing in the Conference. Action Images / Craig Brough Brentford's Andre Gray Gray hit 18 goals last year (less than Nugent two seasons ago), and one-season syndrome is a powerful temptress for clubs keen to bolster their strikeforce. Imagine your reaction had you been told a year ago that Rudy Gestede had just moved to the Premier League for £6m and Daryl Murphy had a £4.5m-plus pricetag slapped on his head. Saying that, we shouldn’t be surprised. Score goals at this level, even just for one season, and your asking price will soar. So do you play the waiting game and break the bank for Jordan Rhodes in the hope the Venky’s will take the bait or save around £8m and opt for Nugent? Rhodes has smashed 79 goals in the past three seasons for Blackburn, a middle of the road Championship side, it should be said. David Nugent celebrates scoring for Leicester in pre-season Nugent scored 54 in his last three seasons in the Championship. His strike rate throughout his career is around one in every three games. David Nugent needs a manager “to back him”, said Nigel Pearson a couple of season ago. Big Nige did exactly that, repeatedly praising the striker for his “exceptional work rate” during his time with Leicester. With that work rate must come goals. Nugent’s record in the Championship is impressive, his record in the Premier League not so. Should he sign and play a part in helping Boro back to the top flight then the £4m fee would seem a drop in the ocean. To do that he’d have to find the form that put him in the mix with the league’s big hitters two seasons ago.
benpicko Posted 10 August 2015 Posted 10 August 2015 We don't need another striker. Ulloa, Okazaki, Vardy, Kramaric - that's more than enough. We generally play 3 at the top and then if Mahrez is injured who do we play behind the front two? Okazaki hasn't played there before as far as I'm aware, Kramaric isn't generous enough, and Nugent played consistently well there last year. See no reason to sell him until we have somebody to actually replace him. That being said, perhaps Ranieri does see Okazaki as a reasonable enough replacement if he gets injured, but I still don't see the point

Dan Posted 10 August 2015 Posted 10 August 2015 Four million is sensational. That's the most we've sold someone for since Heskey isn't it? I'll always have fond memories of him but with a year left and reports that he's not in Ranieri's plans, we'd be absolute idiots to not take that. Good luck to him.
desertfox2 Posted 10 August 2015 Posted 10 August 2015 If in fact 4m is on the table we would be stupid not to accept. As much as I love Nuge he's not a good prem striker. We need to be aiming for mid table up and there's no side in the top 10 Nuge would play for.
NewquayFox Posted 10 August 2015 Posted 10 August 2015 I'm guessing 2 million plus add ons.... Up the City......
HankMarvin Posted 10 August 2015 Posted 10 August 2015 Let us not forget at how the dynamics of promotion are changing due to television rights ,The £5.3bn domestic rights package is 65% higher than the current deal and the overseas rights have still to be agreed, this incredible sum of money means the club that finishes bottom of the Premier League in the 2016-17 season will pocket £99m plus parachute payments, 4million pound when you think of the potential returns is not a huge investment.
FLINTHAMFC Posted 10 August 2015 Posted 10 August 2015 Huge Nuge fan I hear the shouts that he isn't good enough for the Premier League and he is the worst finisher we have ever had. Well to that I say, what utter tosh. Sure he didn't bang in the goals for us last season, but who did. Nugent 29 games 16 starts 5 goals Vardy 34 games 26 starts 5 goals Kramaric 13 games 6 starts 2 goals Ulloa 37 games 29 starts 11 goals I think he holds his own with the rest stats wise and goals to minutes wise. His work rate and miles covered are right up there with the best. He is one of the very few players who you can tell genuinely loves pulling on a foxes shirt and playing for our club and that alone is worth 4m. I think we should recognise what a cracking player Nuge has been for us and I hope he continues to be a Leicester player.

It is not so much whether he is good enough for the Premiership but whether he is good enough for us. Our transfer policy under both Pearson and Ranieri seems to indicate that the club don't believe he is.
st albans fox Posted 10 August 2015 Posted 10 August 2015 Our perspective moving forward is something that nuge doesn't fit into. I would be surprised if Leo does. I suspect we are going to sell quite a few of the players that got us to the prem if we stay up.

Time for sentiment has gone, I don't think there is a decent prem side he would start for though. Hate to say it but he's a great champ player and poor prem player
