Nugent to boro?

a 30 year old is not that old.

And we are no longer a selling team.

I think you underestimate how good a player he is and how silly money is at he moment in the prem.

I think you underestimate agism in football. He may not deteriorate, or seem to be weakening, but his value will drop the further he gets away from 28

Would be a bit gutted to see him go to be honest.

He's been here 4 years and has been a big part of the team for most of that time.

159 appearances and 54 goals for us including 20 in the promotion season and was involved quite heavily (if overlooked by most) in our great escape last season.

Also one of the best characters to have around the ground and clearly popular among the other players.

£4 million is a good price but I'd much rather keep him as a squad player.

:nuge:

The issue with keeping him is that it'd take injuries to at least 2 forwards before he gets a look in. By turning down £4m and continuing to pay his wages Nuge will cost us around £5-6m before leaving on a free at the end of the season.

I think we almost owe Nugent the opportunity to continue his career elsewhere.

4 millions for Nugent????? HAHAHAHAHAHA Boro have had their pants down there. I love Nuge but he is never worth 4 million.

Take the money and run.......very fast hahahaha

He is the perfect Championship striker, but he has never been able to cut it in the Prem. He worked hard last season but he was never going to score enough, we have four strikers right now who in my opinion are capable of getting 10+ this season, Nugent however doesn't fit into that bracket.

£4 million is good business plus Boro get a good Championship standard striker.

Quite. He missed the last seven games.

sad to see him leave but we'll end up having sold wood and nugent (both seemingly not needed) for almost the same amount we bought okazaki (our new first choice striker?)

that is sensational business.

£4m is an absurdly good fee for a 30 year old in the last year of his contract. Nugent has always been a very good 2nd tier player, but has never quite made his mark on the Prem. I like the guy, but we can do better now.

Posted

Also factor in the guy may not be happy having a season on the bench!

I think this deal is good for all parties

Love and respect to Nuge, his been a good servent to the club during the last 4 years, one of Sven's successes in my book.

£4m is very good money for a player with just 1 year left on his deal and who wouldn't be a starter for us.

Agree. No spring chicken either. Been a good servant but this is a very good deal for all concerned.

Is it bad that if he leaves the one incident from all his time here that will stick in my memory is him chasing the squirrel around Loftus Road when we played QPR away in the promotion season?

Posted

With Pearson in charge he might have been worth keeping for this season, without Pearson he's surplus to requirements.

Sell him, and if we can get £4million for him then we'll be laughing. He's basically a transition man - he'll help you out of The Championship, might help keep you in The Prem but if you want to push on to anything more than relegation candidates then, for all his hard work, he's just not quite up to scratch...

Been great for us and, despite thinking his finishing is nowhere near what it could/should be (scores the tough ones, misses the easy ones somehow - don't get me started on his penalties), I have always liked him. But nostalgia can't hide the fact that it's time.

Id suggest it simply means you haven't watched us play very often in the last 4 years

Austin is Pants! If he is a replacement for Nuge I would be fuming. I can tell you now, Austins one season of wonder will be just that. He will go and do a rickets now and disappear. Nugent is more experienced, stronger, and has a better all round game than Austin ever will.

Will be sorry to see Nuge go, he offers a lot to the club on and off the field, terrible to hear him feeling like he is being pushed out. A real kick in the teeth for the poor lad.

Nugent would NEVER get the goal haul Austin got last season.

To argue Nugent is better than him is laughable.

This is sensible business. Nugent isn't a premier league player and he never will be.

Love the way people are assuming Austin is coming if Nuge goes. We will be competing with some big clubs for his signature and it is by no means a foregone conclusion!

Ranieri said he wants two players in each position, didnt he? At most we will be playing two strikers, so the fact we have four now (if/when Nuge goes) suggests that we will not be making a move for Austin

Nugent 98 premier league games 14 goals I feel you fall in love with our players to much yeah great servant and all that but teams move on from players managers we need a poacher and Nugent ain't that he reminds me a bit of fryatt great all round play but not the greatest finisher

We've lost Wood and Nugent now. We'll see a new striker coming I would imagine.

Hopefully they'll use the money raised to put towards getting a top quality striker.

We don't need £2m

We don't know how good Kramaric & Okazaki will be for us despite €€€€€€€€€

Nugent is a great squad member too

Terrible move for us!

People assuming he's not good enough for us now like we're some sort of CL chasing team, when we literally have no idea if 2 new arrivals will offer even a tenth as much as Nugent has

3 month loan out for me, coming back when the pitches get tougher and the games come thick and fast

3 month loan you do know he's out of contract in the summer dont you

We don't need another striker.

Ulloa, Okazaki, Vardy, Kramaric - that's more than enough.

No, but you could argue that an injury to Ulloa would remove the option of sticking a physical presence up front. It's a luxury problem, especially if we will adopt a style that revolves around very mobile strikers.

I don't know about more than enough, but it is a pretty good set of strikers for a decent PL club. You want four good forwards in the squad, really, and we have that. There's some variety in there, as well - 2x energetic pests, 1x target man and 1x tricky technical player.
