Bury- Capital One Cup pre-match

Bury are conceding a lot of goals so we should have plenty of chances. Inler, Fuchs, Kante, Kramaric, Ulloa and Benalouane to start.

I wouldn't make a load of changes. Don't want to end up losing the game because we play a load of players who've got no real understanding. I'd make a few but not a whole team.

Definitely would play Kramaric, Fuchs, Benalouane, Kante and Ulloa though.

In two minds.

Do we play a full B-team, reducing the risk of injury from our in form players, added to the fact we are hugely in depth in terms of quality now or don't do this as it may result in a massive lack of bond as they've never played as an XI before? I reckon playing men out of position would make matters worse if we did so.

Would like to see a mix, personally.

Schmeichel

Benny Wasyl Moore

De Laet Kante Hammond Inler Fuchs

Kramaric Ulloa

I'm shocked by how many people are leaving Kante out of the XI for this game. What would be the point of that?

If we play our second 11 its not even significantly weakened. You could argue some players from that list should be playing in the first team. Whole new 11 for me.

Imagine min of 7 or 8 changes.. so many he will want a look at and the depth is strong enough for us to get the job done even so.

Winning is important, but resting the key players is more important.  Whatever team we put out, we should have enough to progress.  A run in this cup will provide more game time for the squad players, so it does have some merits.

This would be my exact team.

'The Shakers have the worst defensive record in League One this season, having conceded 10 goals in four games.'

Therefore, I would give the game to those short on confidence - such as Kramaric, Moore and Ulloa.

I'd change the whole team. I would want to go into the Bournemouth match as best prepared as we can as to be sat on 10pts in August would be awesome.

We could rest our first XI and still have seven players in the side who have a good claim to be in the first XI:

Benalouane

Fuchs

Was

Kante

Inler

Ulloa

Kramaric

I'm sure Ranieri would like to give our young players a chance in Moore and Chilwell. I'm pretty sure he'll play 4-4-2 to get the squad players used to the first team formation so:

Schwarzer

Benalouane Was Moore Chilwell

Kante Hammond Inler Fuchs

Ulloa Kramaric

Maybe Ranieri will play Barmby and drop Hammond. We could have done with delaying Lawrence's loan for another week but my only problem with the team is the wide midfielders. Surely that team with reasonable application should be too good for Bury though.

Maybe Kante & Inler in central midfield to see how they play together. After all the general consensus is they will be our first choice midfield at some point this season.

Maybe if Ranieri has seen enough quality at the hour mark he may take one or both of them off in preparation to start against Bournemouth?

I expect King and Drinkwater to be on the bench against Bury.

Agree with Gerard on that team selection, completely different 11 to the first 3 games, and I can see changes for the trip to Bournemouth with Kante (King) & Fuchs (Schlupp) coming in, maybe Ulloa (Okazaki) too....

Bloody hell. Seeing that, our "alternative XI", just hammers home how much we've now got depth and quality in the squad. None of those 11 have started a game in the Prem this season but would most probably hold their own against most teams?

Compare it to the team we fielded against Shrewsbury last season at this stage (the names in bold didn't start the previous league game, Chelsea away):

  • 12 Hamer
  • 30 Pearson
  • 18 Moore
  • 03 Konchesky
  • 27 Wasilewski
  • 26 Mahrez Booked (Schlupp - 70' )
  • 33 Cain (King - 58' )
  • 44 Watson (Nugent - 58' )
  • 24 Knockaert
  • 22 Taylor-Fletcher
  • 39 Wood

Just imagine. GTF and Wood as the forward pairing...

At the same time though I want this game won with no slip ups, none of that nonsense we had this time last year. For me now, we should be viewing this as a winnable competition. Take advantage of the amount of Premier League sides who don't seem interested in this competition, take advantage of the fact that draw permitting we're highly likely to be in the last 16 at least.

I could understand having less priority in this competition when in the Championship as quite frankly we were a poorer side. Anyone in this league in my opinion has a realistic chance of winning this. I will be gutted if we lose.

Vardy, Shinji, Albrighton and Mahrez need to be rested (ideally not even on the bench). Then you'd probably want Kanté to play.

I'd go with this,

Schmeichel

RDL Benalouane Huth Chilwell

We need a winger, King Kanté Fuchs

Kram Ulloa

In hindsight it's ridiculous that we were surprised to lose that. That's a diabolical side.

We're flying at the moment and I agree, we should be winning this without a doubt. We need to keep our momentum going and continue to fuel the media perception that we're on a role and dangerous to anyone who plays us. The last thing we need is headlines about how we've lost to Bury in the cup.

We treat this with respect and win it in a professional manner and then move onto our next league game with another positive string to our bow.
