Mahrez

That's no excuse. He has to make an effort.

Didn't say it was an excuse, more a matter of fact.

He'll never become the worlds best while he does not track back. If he wants to become a real world class winger then he'll need to learn to incorporate that into his game.

this is why he'll leave soon, fu ck tracking back the bloke is a genius why would you want him spending half the game holding hand with de laet by our fu cking corner flag

Because he can dribble it from our corner flag in to their net and win the Puskas tbh.

but hes not allowed to cross the half way line mate that'd be abandoning his defensive responsibilities

he's also not allowed to dribble the bloody ball hog

he should man mark the oppos left winger and play the simple ball as soon as he gets it imo and we'll all enjoy the championship together next year whilst he's at barcelona

If only he was more like Iain Hume and ran around a bit more.

I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't feature on Saturday. Being more defensive is important away from home.

Because being defensive is the plan that's working best for us.

Course it isn't but away from home it's more vital than at home. You defend from the front in football.

Surely you want your best player (technically, ability wise) the player that makes things happen to concentrate on his attacking ability, instead of trying to cover for a defender that can't defend properly.

Eventually he is always going to be playing more central so he really should not have to work much on his defensive side of the game, he should track back at times granted which he does, but that's not exactly hard to learn is it.

People are just getting there pants in a twist, Dyer and Albrighton will be our main wingers with Marhez having a free "Attacking" role.

I tend to agree. Wouldn't be surprised if we stick to what worked at Norwich, yes we still conceded but for the amount of possession they had, just 2 shots on target and we looked much more solid with 2 more defensive minded full backs and wingers who are willing to work, the only way Mahrez gets back into the side is if he plays of the front man.

He'll feature, he is too good not to surely? I know we he a full selection of wingers available but you can't be leaving Mahrez out. I don't buy in to him not tracking back either, there are occasions when he's a little suspect defensively but there have been plenty of other times when he's worked very hard at defending in games. Knockaert got the same accusation levelled at him at times yet he was one of the best in our team at winning the ball in his own half and helped out a lot, sometimes though he made mistakes doing it and got criticized.

Finally, totally agree with this, the majority he does work hard to track back on the odd occassion he gets caught out but hes our main attacking threat bar Vardy so who actually cares?

Remember when leaving out Mahrez at Southampton meant we played 4 centre mids?

At least this year we'll have two wingers playing regardless, even if they are stoic rather than flair players.

October/November was unbelievably shit last season.

Can't be any worse this Saturday.

Well it did against Norwich.

Not that I'd leave him out.

Think people are being precious to any bit of criticism of our Riyad because any one who's been going down for a decade is so used to absolute dross comparatively that the thought you could have any complaints about Riyad is a bit odd, considering.

It's Leicester, if we didn't complain we wouldn't have anything to do

And apparently even minor criticism such as "he should look to pass more" is the equivalent of "he sucks, sell now."

Different words same meaning so, yeah.

I guess I just don't understand the complete offense some took at the criticism of Riyad. Obviously, he's a really great player. But it's not unfair or unreasonable to want him to make improvements in his game.

It's kind of like that thread on the defense following the Norwich game. The OP, who had not been able to watched the game, asked about Simpson and Fuchs. A few people mentioned how solid Simpson had been. Soon, calling Simpson's performance "solid" or "good" was apparently the equivalent of calling him the savior of the defense.

Well I explained it in my post just up the page. People have been used to some truly horrific players putting the shirt on for the last 10-15 years and having a player like Riyad is a breathe of fresh air. Whether that's right or wrong I dunno but that's why people don't take it well.

its more they react like children and take the stringer view of, "he was last season top scorer how can you not play him" or "5th in the league how can ANYTHING be wrong with how they are playing" there is very little nuance with some of the posters on here now

Fair enough. I'm definitely not blind to the fact that as a pretty new fan I don't have the memories or experiences of said horrific players playing for the club I support that those who grew up with it have. I don't really mind the hypersensitivity, just the twisting of words.

if we made him pass more we may as well sell him

Yeah, that's exactly what people have said isn't it... absolutely not being ridiculously reactionary to people wanting him to improve the defensive side of his game and his decision making a bit. Obviously he's currently the perfect player and doesn't need to improve in any areas at all. He's 24 after all, as good as he'll ever be so there is no point in trying to improve your game, it's all downhill from here and he'll only get worse.
