MooseBreath Posted 26 September 2015 Posted 26 September 2015 I wonder if he's feeling the pressure of expectation a bit, starting to overthink everything he does. Best example was when he miscontrolled the rebound off the post when he should have just hit it. He needs to calm down and play his natural game. Hopefully Ranieri can help him out in that respect by imparting a bit of calmness.
dayday Posted 26 September 2015 Posted 26 September 2015 He started very brightly, brilliant pass to Vardy and a few cut ins that caused them problems, after that as mentioned was poor
Jam Posted 26 September 2015 Posted 26 September 2015 He was very greedy today and didn't seem to want to pass the ball. Which concluded in him losing it every time. I really hope he learns when to be greedy and when to release the balls. We have missed alot of opportunities already this season when he's refused to pass. I'm sure as he develops he'll learn.
MikeyT Posted 27 September 2015 Posted 27 September 2015 He was very greedy today and didn't seem to want to pass the ball. Which concluded in him losing it every time. Just came on here to say exactly the same thing.
doubledeckerderek Posted 27 September 2015 Posted 27 September 2015 He wasn't fully fit - see post match thread
C-man Posted 27 September 2015 Posted 27 September 2015 Today you saw the difference. No way would he get in a top team like Arsenal. Compare his movement to Ozil, to Sanchez, to Walcott. It's non existent. Christ you really do hate him don't you? It's one bad game. I doubt anyone will be losing any sleep over it.
Fox92 Posted 27 September 2015 Posted 27 September 2015 Christ you really do hate him don't you? It's one bad game. I doubt anyone will be losing any sleep over it. No I don't "hate" him (or any Leicester City player), but a lot of you seem to overrate him. Today I've seen "he got man marked by two players", "there's too much expectation" etc - how do you think the great players get on? They have this problem every week.

They don't have the same problem every week though. Reason being, they're playing in a better team with better players.
stox259 Posted 27 September 2015 Author Posted 27 September 2015 He's clearly truly Leicester city. Must have known Wenger was interested in him. I can imagine it now. Claudio 'Riyad my son, Arsenal are sniffing around you. I hope thy don't bid for you in Jan'. Mahrez 'Don't worry boss, I've got this'. He'll be back on it against Norwich :-)
Thracian Posted 27 September 2015 Posted 27 September 2015 Mahrez escapes criticism because no matter how badly he's playing he makes something happen by way of a goal or assist. People who otherwise demand a willingness to defend when we've lost the ball forget it in Mahrez's case because his brownie points are already in the bag. But the truth is he needs to find a balance between keeping and passing the ball to keep defenders guessing. And recently he's lost that balance and is trying to do far too much on his own. I love a good Mahrez performance as much as anyone else but he's so frustrating.
Russell sprout Posted 27 September 2015 Posted 27 September 2015 Too much pressure and expectation on him every time he gets the ball. Groans at him in the stadium today.unbelievable. He can't do it on his own That's the thing though,he tries to do it all on his own,he's very selfish, far to predictable as well, He's getting found out, there's no doubt he's a game changer, and can pick a ball or a goal out of knowhere, but that cutting inside what he does, Left, then right, then left again drives me mad, More so when there's others screaming for the ball, and he looses it,imo he's not a top 4 prem team player yet, anyone that thinks he will walk into any team is deluded

As long as he doesn't lose the ball in his own half (which I don't remember him doing yesterday) then if he loses it whilst trying to create I have no issues with him. What annoyed me yesterday were the audible groans from the crowd when he lost the ball. It's completely out of order. He's a class act, and I think he 100% could play for a better team than us. In a better side, he'd look even more classy because he'd have better players around him. An off day yesterday for sure- but guess what, he's human.

Too much imo, given the season he's had.
EGBFitness Posted 27 September 2015 Posted 27 September 2015 Was his worst game in a while yesterday. Looked of the pace, maybe tired? The media are hyping him up so much now and obviously with his great start teams are setting up to isolate him, most of the time he picks the ball up now he has 2/3 men around him- this will test how good he really is now. I'd probably say Mahrez is my favourite player down here and although we now have some strong competition I'd say our best player here too. The only thing that frustrates me with his is how he sometimes keeps the ball too long whether a pass/cross or taking a shoot. There were 2 occasions yesterday he could of shoot but played around with it and then Arsenal broke and scored

Think the groans we just of disappointment rather than in anger! A lot seems expected of him now, agree a bit unfair
Bayfox Posted 27 September 2015 Posted 27 September 2015 Great game to have a off day. That will just be barca sniffing around now. Arsenal will have lost interest now. Seriously tho. Yes he had a off day but he is still a game changer and can create from nothing. He has his flaws but don't a lot of players. He plays for us for a reason he isn't Messi.
Riot Van Posted 27 September 2015 Posted 27 September 2015 Think the groans we just of disappointment rather than in anger! A lot seems expected of him now, agree a bit unfair Those groans really pissed me off. He can have a bad game ffs.
foxfanazer Posted 27 September 2015 Posted 27 September 2015 Those groans really pissed me off. He can have a bad game ffs. Exactly. He was infuriating yesterday but flair players like him will have their off days. When he's on it he's brilliant so you have to take the rough with the smooth
johnny the fox Posted 27 September 2015 Posted 27 September 2015 Nobody on here has ever woke up and not felt on it ? he is human not a machine, he will have off days.. enjoy him while we can.
ARTY_FOX Posted 27 September 2015 Posted 27 September 2015 The people around me have been moaning and groaning at him all season... If he doesn't instantly pass the ball or score they moan and moan until he does
adam95581 Posted 27 September 2015 Posted 27 September 2015 The problem is that when he's bad he's really bad as he doesn't offer work rate or to the defensive side of our game. I'll take it though as you can't get by with just willing runners...someone has to have that create spark and if it doesn't work from time to time then so be it.
TonyN11 Posted 27 September 2015 Posted 27 September 2015 Yesterday, he was successful several times in taking on and beating players but he didn't do it in the final third. He can keep the ball and draw the opposition to him, creating space for his colleagues, but then needs to release it instead of holding on and losing possession. And against a good side like Arsenal, his defensive qualties as a wide-player are shown up. Really need to play him behind the striker or the front two. Still, I'm sure Claudio will sort him out so we can see the best of him in our upcoming away games.
chapero82 Posted 27 September 2015 Posted 27 September 2015 The people around me have been moaning and groaning at him all season... If he doesn't instantly pass the ball or score they moan and moan until he does I can remember the year when Ronaldo got Rooney sent off for England and that tournament all they let kept saying was how Ronaldo had no end product etc now look at him, I'm not saying he will be the next Ronaldo just that he needs time to improve.
Wymsey Posted 27 September 2015 Posted 27 September 2015 Perhaps speculation is starting to affect his performances.
