Swiper Posted 12 October 2015 Posted 12 October 2015 3 assists 5 goals from 7 starts, didn't realise how crap he was!! When did I say he was crap? I'm pretty sure I stated how amazing he's been, didn't I? Good Lord, the reading comprehension... Jesus Christ are you serious? We are 5th (?) in the league sat on 15 points. Without Mahrez's direct contribution to goals, we would have 7 points. Would you prefer that or something?! And one of those points is generous considering if he wasn't playing in the second half against Villa we'd never have turned it around. Dude, I have not said anywhere that he is not a great player nor have I said that we could have done better so far. All I said is that he has areas to improve. Nice to see some of the selective hearing/reading around here. I think Riyad is an absolutely incredible player. Other than Vardy, he is the primary reason the club is doing so well, from a player's standpoint. I've simply stated a couple of things that he could improve on. Just because I give a small criticism, you think I'm suddenly saying he sucks? Once again, the lack of reading comprehension from some is astounding.
ScouseFox Posted 12 October 2015 Posted 12 October 2015 Wish we could go back to wingers who stuck diligently to their defensive duties like Alan Maybury bring back matt oakley captain and inside right imo
Corky Posted 12 October 2015 Posted 12 October 2015 Wish we could go back to wingers who stuck diligently to their defensive duties like Alan Maybury There is still a mentality that hard work and doing the basics are more important than creativity and flair. Mahrez is not a Vardy type who sprints around harrying the opposition, but he's a player who has natural ability to twist, turn, run with the ball, play neat passes and fool defenders. We'll miss him when he's gone- he should be appreciated. By all means criticise bad performances but we should encourage players like him.
Guest Posted 12 October 2015 Posted 12 October 2015 Shirkers, coming over here and stealing our jobs.
AKCJ Posted 12 October 2015 Posted 12 October 2015 Some people are hilarious. I've said it before but I'll say it again the same ones who bang on and on about how he hogs the ball and loses it too much scream just as loud as the rest of us when he beats 3 men and sticks it in the top corner. Full on hypocrites. As someone said on here a while ago you don't get the rainbow without the rain. I whinge like mad when he takes on 3 men and loses it just as much as I scream like mad when he takes on 3 men and shoves it in the top corner. Saying that he has flaws in his game but then jumping for joy when he scores is not hypocritical. It's just fact. He's not the perfect player but he has oh so much potential. I never want to see him stop taking players on. He's got, in my view, world class potential. The flaws he has now, if ironed out of his game, will see him become a top player.
Wymsey Posted 12 October 2015 Posted 12 October 2015 Just let him play the way he likes. I personally think he should be given a 'free role', though obviously where he is now, as the uncertainty of what he's going to do next is good to confuse the opposition with.
Steve_Guppy_Left_Foot Posted 12 October 2015 Posted 12 October 2015 But didn't he cover more ground than anyone else in our team in a bunch of games last season, which sort of puts to bed this myth that he's lazy.
Heymister2015 Posted 12 October 2015 Posted 12 October 2015 Put him in behind vardy for Southampton! Be a tough game and might catch them by surprise
JonesLCFC Posted 12 October 2015 Posted 12 October 2015 Your creative players are gonna lose the ball more than your standard players, it's part and parcel of the game. To tell him to pass more instead of taking on players means your restricting quite possibly the best dribbler to ever play for the club. Don't be idiots.
Stadt Posted 12 October 2015 Posted 12 October 2015 You're not going to get him passing the ball more without making him dribble less, I'm very pleased with his dribbling and the chances and subsequent goals he makes.

It's also idiotic to always do the same thing, better players, like Monreal, will read that and stop him, like he did, so passing more often actually means he is more likely to be successful when dribbling, especially if he stops trying to dribble down blind alleys
Great Boos Up Posted 12 October 2015 Posted 12 October 2015 Put him on a BIG assist bonus, he will then just beat the two players and lay off for Vardy to finish. Plus that gives him time to get back to position if the play doesn't create a goal. Can that work?
lgfualol Posted 12 October 2015 Posted 12 October 2015 This is frustrating seeing Vardy always so deep. No doubt Vardy will get slated again.
Steve_Guppy_Left_Foot Posted 12 October 2015 Posted 12 October 2015 It's also idiotic to always do the same thing, better players, like Monrea +2 other Arsenal players nearest to him at the timel, will read that and stop him, like he did, so passing more often actually means he is more likely to be successful when dribbling, especially if he stops trying to dribble down blind alleys
The Doctor Posted 12 October 2015 Posted 12 October 2015 How this guy never won he Ballon D'or let alone this award I will never know. Google search images because I can't remember who that is... Racism truly alive and well.

We'll miss him when he's gone- he should be appreciated. By all means criticise bad performances but we should encourage players like him. Both Pearson and Ranieri and Mahrez himself have talked about him having the learn the other side of the game. If he wants to become a complete player then he needs to realise that defensive duties are part and parcel of the game. The players who reach the very top often have both sides to their game. Nobody expects him to be a Vardy, but there are issues there, I don't know why people go over the top in defense of him when it's pointed out. The same goes with learning when to pass and when to go it alone. Nobody wants to take that away from his game, they just want him to improve his decision making. For people to rubbish anyone making a mild critisism about him not passing, or not defending makes me think they think he's currently perfect and doesn't need to improve anything in his game. That is way more wrong than someone thinking there is room for improvement.
Jimmy Posted 13 October 2015 Posted 13 October 2015 I can just tell reading this post you've never played football Shame you're a retard then
whoareyaaa Posted 13 October 2015 Posted 13 October 2015 I always see Marhez tracking back, I think this more down to De leat being a total liability, ok on the odd occassion Marhez becomes vunerble but he is in noway a defensive type of player, someone with creativity and skill Marhez has shouldn't even be thinking about defending.
Guest Col city fan Posted 13 October 2015 Posted 13 October 2015 I think he'll be back for the Saints game or at least I'd be surprised if he wasn't. So glad to get the utterly boring international break out of the road so we can concentrate once more on some proper football. We're off drinking in Nottingham from Sat lunchtime so will be raising a chorus of 'Blue Army' on numerous occasions whilst tuning in to Stelling.

No I'm sorry, whilst De Laet isn't the greatest Mahrez really doesn't help. His tracking against Arsenal was shocking, the one that stood out above all the others was the one where Ozil got left free to cross the ball in for the headed goal. It was so clear Ozils position was a threat, Mahrez looked at him about 6 times and only bothered trying to get back once the ball had already been switched. As for skillful players not having to defend, what a load of tosh. The best in the world manage it, so why the hell can't he.

I would imagine that he can't manage it because he's not in the same category as 'the world's best'...... Yet.
filbertstreet Posted 14 October 2015 Posted 14 October 2015 I would imagine that he can't manage it because he's not in the same category as 'the world's best'...... Yet. as if messi doesn't have a poster of mahrez in his bedroom
Guest Posted 14 October 2015 Posted 14 October 2015 I would imagine that he can't manage it because he's not in the same category as 'the world's best'...... Yet. That's no excuse. He has to make an effort.

Exactly, so there is room for improvement, which is exactly my point. Yet people have jumped on the backs of others for daring to suggest he's not perfect and he can improve in several areas.
