ARTY_FOX Posted 28 September 2015 Posted 28 September 2015 I can remember the year when Ronaldo got Rooney sent off for England and that tournament all they let kept saying was how Ronaldo had no end product etc now look at him, I'm not saying he will be the next Ronaldo just that he needs time to improve. He could be Ronaldo and I'm sure they'd still have a moan about something be it his boots or that he's only scored 5 this match. In fact there hasn't been a game this season at home where I haven't heard 'mahrez needs to come off at half time I think' including Sunderland and that baffled and confused me....
Thracian Posted 28 September 2015 Posted 28 September 2015 Assuming you weren't at the game and haven't read this thread over the last 15 hours? He's copped plenty! Too much imo, given the season he's had. I didn't wish to imply that he escapes all criticism, just that some chose to forgive him anything for the things he does do instead of urging him to do still better. Mahrez is a brilliant contributor in terms of goals and assists but is defensively lacking and still needs to find the right balance between taking people on and retaining possession. He's not the finished article by any means but I sure hope he has the determination to be so and the wisdom to ignore all the well-meaning praise in pursuit of that end.
MPH Posted 28 September 2015 Posted 28 September 2015 He had a bloody off game, everyone. Stop getting your knickers in a twist!
ARM1968 Posted 29 September 2015 Posted 29 September 2015 He's been unreal so far this season, absolutely unreal. He had an off day. Flair players have em. He'll have more this season. However if he managers the form of the first 5-6 games another 3 or 4 times this season then we cannot complain. Half the season unplayable is more than most players manage. He will know he wasn't on it against Arsenal. The whole team had an off day and Arsenal were on fire. Let's see how he responds.
Jackster21 Posted 29 September 2015 Posted 29 September 2015 I doubt Wenger was impressed with how Mahrez played on Saturday.
Izzy Posted 29 September 2015 Posted 29 September 2015 Perhaps speculation is starting to affect his performances. I wondered this too. I know your not allowed to 'tap up' players these days, but I wonder if his agent is telling him the big boys are interested in signing him soon. He's still young and I hope the pressure isn't getting to him. He's had so much praise and plaudits this season and he must realise he's in the spot light now. Must be difficult to stay focused on the job in hand when you know you're destined for bigger and better things...
TheUltimateWinner Posted 29 September 2015 Posted 29 September 2015 He had one poor game. Every other game he has contributed to our every attacking move, he's been the architect and catalyst of our good start.
SMX11 Posted 29 September 2015 Posted 29 September 2015 Remember the lad is quite inexperienced he will have off games. The thing he should learn is that when his usual pattern of play seems ineffective he needs to start passing the ball more and not run into 2-3 defenders and give the ball back to the other team.
Collymore Posted 29 September 2015 Posted 29 September 2015 I saw massive similarities with Neymar tonight. They're so predicable in how they're so unpredictable! It's weird!

MIAMI_FOX Posted 30 September 2015 Posted 30 September 2015 Same old fickle city fans. One bad game and suddenly he is a bad player overnight. Ridiculous Even messi has off days. Get a grip ffs
ozleicester Posted 30 September 2015 Posted 30 September 2015 It wasnt even a "bad" game, just not ripping the place apart.
The Quick Brown Fox Posted 30 September 2015 Posted 30 September 2015 Like people have already said he was played in a position where he was never going to shine on Saturday, he needed to be more central with the freedom a player like him needs. I'd love to see him playing behind Vardy with no defensive responsibility. I feel he would be able to open up any defence and create chance after chance for the team. I still think He needs to learn to play the simple ball every now and then though.

lgfualol Posted 30 September 2015 Posted 30 September 2015 Ah, I see there are a few claiming he is overrated now, even a suggestion of dropping him. I wonder how many points we'd be on without him? I bet if Vardy had a bad game they wouldn't talk of dropping him, but then again they are Leicester fans.
The Horse's Mouth Posted 30 September 2015 Posted 30 September 2015 this has to be parody , he's going to have off days and pretty much made the second goal. Besides we didn't really need him against Arsenal and Vardy was ripping Merte to shreds.
Collo73 Posted 30 September 2015 Posted 30 September 2015 He didn't have an off day in my opinion he just didn't know when to release the ball!! I just hope he keeps playing for the team and not himself.
Wymsey Posted 30 September 2015 Posted 30 September 2015 He seems to not know when it is the best time to pass to another player inside/outside the box, and when it's best to shoot.
lgfualol Posted 30 September 2015 Posted 30 September 2015 He didn't have an off day in my opinion he just didn't know when to release the ball!! I just hope he keeps playing for the team and not himself. I dont think it helped when there was groaning from fans every time he had the ball, or tried to do something. Just made him even worse with the ball.
inckley fox Posted 30 September 2015 Posted 30 September 2015 If Mahrez plays well I see messages like 'golden boy Mahrez is above criticism, as usual' and, after a bad game, 'oh, so now we're going to start slating MAHREZ, are we?!!!' Surely the sensible conclusion, rather than the ongoing rush to tell everybody else what is and isn't alright for a supporter to post, is that - depending on the performance of a player / manager / side - verdicts will be either positive or negative, and probably deservedly so. He has had a wonderful start to the season, but was - highlights aside - poor against Stoke and very, very poor against Arsenal. Yes, yes, it's Arsenal, I know, but lower-mid table sides pick up plenty of points against the big boys, and if Mahrez wants to become the player we believe he can become he's going to have to learn to be effective against better players. He neglected most of his defensive duties and was a big culprit in their opening us up down the right, by constantly giving away possession. If people are wondering whether we can afford to have De Laet on the right, Huth at RCB and Mahrez doing whatever Mahrez pleases on the right wing, then that's understandable, just as it was last season when Pearson dropped him. It doesn't mean he's not good enough for us, just that there's an issue which clearly needs addressing if we don't wish to concede two goals per game and get relegated.
Steve_Guppy_Left_Foot Posted 30 September 2015 Posted 30 September 2015 What gets my goat is the people who always say he doesn't know when to pass but then rim him when he beats 4 players and smashes it in the top corner.
Guest ttfn Posted 30 September 2015 Posted 30 September 2015 What gets my goat is the people who always say he doesn't know when to pass but then rim him when he beats 4 players and smashes it in the top corner. "If you want the rainbow you have to put up with the rain." Do you know which "philosopher" said that? Dolly Parton. And people say she's just a big pair of tits.

Yeah, that's a fair point. It's like Inler. The day one of those 30 yard shots slams into the roof of the net, we'll be yelling 'shoot' at him every time he touches the ball. Even though it'll probably cost us more often than it helps us.
Steve_Guppy_Left_Foot Posted 30 September 2015 Posted 30 September 2015 Well it's not the same is it, because we have 12 points and Mahrez has been instrumental in every game except 2, one in which he had an injury and one of which he was trebled up on by a title chasing team. Hardly the same as the player who's come in and done the square route of sweet fa in games.
ScouseFox Posted 30 September 2015 Posted 30 September 2015 i like the key pass stats that he tops every week for most teams in the league let alone just ours and then the people on here/at the ground who say he never passes and doesn't know when to release the ball
