Harry - LCFC Posted 12 September 2015 Posted 12 September 2015 Have a read.... http://www.vice.com/read/kleinfeld-refugee-memes-debunking-846 Internet memes are the worst form of political debate aren't they? It's not just this issue either. Loads of people who can't be bothered to find out about an issue seem quite content to just share or retweet an image with a bit of text on that appeals to them. I think social media is a great place to talk about politics but the quality of conversation is so much better when people post articles or write something out themselves to get things started started.
Frank to be Posted 12 September 2015 Posted 12 September 2015 The memes are crap but that article is no better, labeling anyone who has concerns as racist and trying to shut down the argument instead of dealing with it properly is not an effective strategy.
davieG Posted 12 September 2015 Posted 12 September 2015 France has suspended its honorary consul in the Turkish port of Bodrum after a TV report showed a shop she owns selling dinghies to migrants. Footage secretly filmed by France 2 TV shows Francoise Olcay selling dinghies and life jackets to migrants hoping to reach the Greek islands. The UN says 124,000 people reached Greece's shores by sea in the first seven months of 2015. Ms Olcay said the items would be bought elsewhere if she did not sell them. Admitting that she was taking part in the trade, she alleged that local Turkish authorities were also involved. She said others would have taken her place if she stopped selling supplies to the migrants. The BBC's Hugh Schofield in Paris says that while honorary consuls are not members of the diplomatic corps, the news will be a big embarrassment to the French foreign ministry. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-34229332

bovril Posted 13 September 2015 Posted 13 September 2015 http://news360.com/article/311820821well looks like they already started fighting x Some charming comments below that article. Whatever the rights and wrongs of it, the situation has the potential to get out of control easily. What a fvcking mess.
Wymsey Posted 13 September 2015 Posted 13 September 2015 Wouldn't be surprised if the unemployment rate increases slightly due to this situation.
lianne81 Posted 14 September 2015 Posted 14 September 2015 Wouldn't be surprised if the unemployment rate increases slightly due to this situation. To be fair though those that are unemployed now is high but if you really wanted to work there are enough jobs out there. Just people with no qualifications think they are better then stacking shelfs and want a job that pays alot better. That and people get more money just sitting on there ass x
Buce Posted 14 September 2015 Posted 14 September 2015 That sounds like a speech from Cameron. Just someone else who forms their opinions by reading the Sun/Mail, Rince. And we let these people vote. Scary.
leicsmac Posted 14 September 2015 Posted 14 September 2015 Just someone else who forms their opinions by reading the Sun/Mail, Rince. And we let these people vote. Scary. Know you're likely being hyperbolic there Buce, but sadly it isn't the fault of the democratic system itself that various interest groups try to use the media to subvert it. I wouldn't have the one man, one vote system any other way.
lianne81 Posted 14 September 2015 Posted 14 September 2015 Don't read papers just know from experience and family looking for jobs to know how many are out there x
Guest MattP Posted 14 September 2015 Posted 14 September 2015 You can't have a right wing viewpoint without being a Daily Mail reader. I read it in the Guardian. Germany introducing border controls is hopefully the beginning of the end for the Shengen agreement, long overdue.

leicsmac Posted 14 September 2015 Posted 14 September 2015 Coming to a town near you, soon. ISIS are coming! Panic! They're coming to burn your homes and violate your Labradors! Spare us the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse routine, please.

bovril Posted 14 September 2015 Posted 14 September 2015 ISIS are coming! Panic! They're coming to burn your homes and violate your Labradors! Spare us the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse routine, please. I honestly think it has the potential to cause more unrest in Europe than anything since the fall of Yugoslavia. ISIS promised they would attack tourists in Tunisia and they did. I reckon it's a matter of time before an attack, probably a small scale one. If it happens in a city like Belgrade or Budapest where there are, let's say, 'historical grievances' with Islam, the whole situation could unravel before our eyes.
Guest MattP Posted 14 September 2015 Posted 14 September 2015 Mac your attitude towards ISIS continues to shock; pretty much everything these guys have promised has occurred. We shouldn't be so blasé and dismissive over their claims they will use the migrant crisis to flood Europe with jihadists.
leicsmac Posted 14 September 2015 Posted 14 September 2015 Bit over the top isn't it, but when some fvcker chops your head, don't start complaining.Don't worry, if that ever looks to be the case I'll be sure to be on that new head transplant list. ::But, in all seriousness, ISIS exist only at the sufferance of the major powers around the world. They have nothing to project power outside their small sphere of influence (which is tenuous anyway) bar a slick PR and propaganda network on the internet, which wouldn't do them much good if if someone finally decided clearing them up would justify the mess that would result from it.
