Parafox Posted 11 September 2015 Posted 11 September 2015 But would you not be willing to give places to those truly regular humans who just want to be safe and happy? Rhetorical question - I know that you would. Don't you think that the intelligence services will be monitoring all those who are accepted? Don't you think that there is more possibility that a British ISIS sympathiser is more likely than ISIS managing to get unwatched "sleepers" into the country as refugees? Sorry FIF but I think you're being naïve if you think intelligence services will be able to monitor for IS supporters/soldiers when there are so many "ordinary" refugees that they can get amongst. We can't seem to find the main sources of IS recruitment and training never mind weeding out a couple of hundred IS members amongst 30-50,000 migrants.
Guest MattP Posted 11 September 2015 Posted 11 September 2015 ISIS told us back in February they were going to smuggle people into Europe via this method to perform terrorist attacks. Don't understand why it's become news now.
Frank to be Posted 11 September 2015 Posted 11 September 2015 I'm not sure why the media aren't making anything of it. Never mind rich "cultural icons" telling us mere plebs how we should behave, how about the risk of a trojan horse attack

Harry - LCFC Posted 11 September 2015 Posted 11 September 2015 The guardian are calling the celebrities they've convinced to tell us how we should behave "cultural figures". Excuse me while I vomit. Here, here. This sort of thing is so sickly. I much it prefer it when people explain to me why they think they're right rather than asking us to defer to our 'moral betters' in the media and the celebosphere.

If we can't monitor the people coming in then we've already got IS in the country. Perhaps having sympathetic syrians in the community will help to out those IS members and save lives.

MPH Posted 11 September 2015 Posted 11 September 2015 Syria before and after. A beautiful place. Everyday people with jobs, cars, mobile phones, homes, families, nice clothes, coffee shops... yes, just like you and me. They are not escaping poverty to come and scrounge your tax money. They are fleeing a living hell on earth. #reality

Bayfox Posted 11 September 2015 Posted 11 September 2015 I must admit the thought of ISIS infiltrating the country via foot soldiers pretending to be refugees is a bit of a concern. The desire to help those in need may be stronger but that doesn't mean we should ignore the risk. Our intelligence services are no doubt very good but do they have the resources to effectively monitor thousands of people at a time? If they do, I'd then be concerned that they're using powers of observation that we don't know about and that are probably illegal. In the case of Germany, there's no way they could monitor hundreds of thousands of refugees without using illegal means of observation. Either way it's a legitimate concern and isn't to be taken lightly. Not they don't. Someone I know works for Europol in the hauge on, let's say vat fraud and money laundering and nearly all his resources in the last 2 years have been diverted to trying to counter terrorist attacks in Europe. This flood of immigrants/refugees what every you want to call them means more and more will need to be done to keep watch. Whilst we do that, he is convinced you will see a rise in other activity within Europe on other crimes as well, such as the mafia.
Wymsey Posted 11 September 2015 Posted 11 September 2015 If jobs are going to be 'filled' here by migrants - these jobs won't be British. Hence this country won't gain much, as they're likely to fill crap wage jobs (hence contribute very little tax towards the economy) which will mean that demand for healthcare/social care/shelters will rocket even more. I'm happy with the 'cap' amount of migrants that Cameron is allowing to enter by 2020, but any further increase will start to make the above statement a true reality.

Alot of radio stations do good things, just like Kohinoor and others, which i think is great. but why should I be careful about mocking them?
