El Shaarawy has been awful for 3 seasons. There's a reason monaco don't want him

Doesn't always mean that they're finished or won't suit another team, but it's a fair point. We're probably going to be taking some sort of risk because the type of player we currently need to improve is going to be top top class.

Bamford is an absolute fraud. No thanks.

Shane Long I could see fitting us. I don't think he's an amazing player but he's exactly the kind of direct forward that would suit us, similar sort of player to Vardy.

Thought Van Aanholt was Sunderlands best player last night......Is Carl Jenkinson on loan at West Ham.......Leeds Sam Byram has looked awesome recently....need some cover at full back.....

I never saw the hype with El Shaarawy either.

I also don't want Onazi as I just think it's too brilliant that a player with nazi in his name plays for Lazio

Watched him a lot at Middlesborough. He was good on the ball and had an eye for the goal.

Pardew said earlier that he was a smashing player and that he was clearly upset at not being able to get into the team.

Not sure how he can be referred to as an absolute fraud

6 hours to an open window.

Wonder when we will make our first signing. This time last year we were desperate to get some new blood in to change our fortunes. not so desperate now bit the opportunity over the next few months dictates that we surely have to go for it ??

If we get in some CL standard players and we don't make the CL, surely we can sell them in the summer if they don't want to stay?

Alternatively, they will give us a great chance of making it next season (although this is probably the best chance we'll get)

I've never seen the fuss with him to be honest. Always thought he's a bit over-rated. Not as much as Connor Wickham was but still a bit.

Always thought Bamford was a lot of hype over nothing to be honest. Good championship player but he's got a hell of a lot of improving to do to make the step up imo

May be worth a look at the Bayer04 squad (as they may have heard us by now?) Whoever we target, I just pray and hope we do not have another 100 page thread relating to some Chilean chap that thinks Bayer04 are

Bayern Munich.

Let the fun begin.

i think Austin would prefer to stay in London but worthan enquiry because him in your squad will guarantee goals at the moment we are hopefull that Leo and Shinji contribute

Diouf from stokes a good striker 14 in 46 for Stoke and hardly plays always works his arse off as well. But I'd be surprised if we got someone from the prem though.

Anyone suggesting Bamford clearly hasn't a clue. A player who is not good enough for the premiership and would be of no use to us whatsoever.

For me we need to identify players with a point to prove who can buy into our philosophy.

Many of our players have either come from nowhere or were deemed to be not good enough for this level - Albrighton/Huth etc. a player out of favour with one manager can flourish under another - I genuinely believe with the right coaching, in terms of attitude more than anything, Townsend has to be a genuine option.

Would love us to sign bernardeschi from the viola

The problem with buying Townsend would be is the manger willing to give him game time to get to the level that he needs to be and people know he has shown signs of.  If he was able to hit the ground running he would be doing it already but as you say it could be the manager/tactics etc.  By all accounts Levy isn't the easiest person to deal with so the club would end up getting ripped off on the price and have to pay all up front.

How good is Bernardeschi?  He seems like he's had a lot of game time for a 21 year old playing LW/RW/AM

Unfortunately his mother died in October in a car accident, so his focus has been away from football recently.

Just spotted this on the Sky Sports website...

Emmanuel Eboue

The Ivorian is set to leave Turkish giants Galatasaray in January with Premier League joint-leaders Leicester reported to be in the hunt for the defender by The Sunday People.

Eboue, 32, made 214 appearances for Arsenal between 2004 and 2011 before moving overseas. He is understood to be keen on a return to England.
