hull post match (5-4 pens) 1-1 aet

What I can't understand last night is when Drinkwater came on they played him behind Vardy. Surely they should have pushed King further up and played Danny in his preferred position because I think the midfield was where it was lost last night. Inler was shocking last night and with him and King in midfield we were just weak.

Possibly because CR wants to bring Inler in to the first team but cant because of Drinky's form.

However if Drinkwater was shit hot as the number 10, happy days!

I actually thought re pens that's a bit harsh on Schwarzer, all pretty good penalties.

He should have done better for the goal though, so should the defender as well who was slow to react, he should get there before Hernandez.

It won't though, because every single year you're going to face situations like this. These chances don't come every year. We got bloody lucky to run into Hull in this round.

I'm not being funny but it will be exactly the same in the FA Cup, and the League Cup next year. There will be excuses based around whatever our league situation is at the time. Honestly - we're 5th in the league, we're most likely not going to finish there, but even less likely to go down. We are in the ideal position to have a proper go at the cup, and we didn't, we gambled with a weak side and lost to a weakened Hull side that I say with 99% confidence our usual first team would've put away.

I understand the concept of growing the club, but we completely bottled going for a trophy. I just hope Hull are sent to Man City tonight as that'll make me a little less gutted.

I know what you mean and I'm not totally disagreeing with you. Like I said don't get me wrong I would love to see city get to Wembley and win something but this season I'm not overly bothered and would be more bothered about a good league position.

I think it's a little unfair to say every year will be the same, if you look at where we have come from over the last few years we have improved massively in terms of quality in starting 11, squad depth and league positions. If we keep progressing the way we are we are destine for greatness whether that is Europe or cup competition.

The quality in players we have signed in the last few years have been based on the results in the league and the ambition of the club.

It would be amazing come May we are still sitting in 5th or dare I say higher but know that this is unlikely but I would certainly take another year in the premier league than reaching a semi final in a cup competition and if it means playing a second string in the cup means that I'm not too bothered.

Some players have got some good experience and game time with competition this year and has already seen rise of Dodoo (although heard he wasn't great last night) and obviously Chillwell got first team experience too so it's only good for our future

I know that the Prem is going to be worth zillions next year and I also know we have to rest certain key players to help ensure that we stay in it (cus football is a business to the owners at the end of the day).

But I'm not so keen on giving certain players "another chance" (Kram, Inler) in a competition that we had a more than reasonable chance of winning.  For us the supporters a possible trip to Wembley is a massive part of following our team ....   and without it finishing 7th, 10th, or 12th in the prem would be a bit stale.  OK its a balancing act but I think we got it slightly wrong.  Rant over.

I think it proved that our so called 2nd team is not as strong as many were saying in the early part of the match thread.

Personally, I'm glad it was Mahrez missed the penalty. Imagine if it had been Inler, or (had they been on at the time) Kramaric or Okazaki. It doesn't bear thinking about. Inler's turned to be a great penalty, although he was probably going to put it on the other side and against the bottom of the post before it went in. Is that Inler's first shot on target since he joined us, or have I missed one?

Not commenting re penalties because it's pure guess work (although Butland's save to deny Hazard was brilliant) but he should have done better for the goal, it's just palmed back into the six yard box. Defenders should have reacted quicker too, but yet again an opposition player gets to the ball first.

I'll be gutted if Hull draw a home tie against Wednesday or Everton etc...

I didn't read too much in to yesterdays game. Hull were the better team but it was a turgid game with very few chances. We lacked attacking threat which is a real shame given our hopes of Kramaric and Okazaki and the class that Inler supposedly has.

I think Claudio wants to add goals to Drinky's game. He get's at least one good attempt per game although he hasn't found the back of the net yet and adding a goal would bring a new attribute and a new confidence to his game. I think the Football Forum said he hasn't scored in 38 games, make that 39 after last night. Playing him a little further up should have gotten him closer to the goal.

I would not have brought Drinky into a more attacking role to win the game but I think the potential was there to boost Drinky in league games. If he scored, we would be talking about both. I think your right though, putting him in CM and pushing King up is a better attacking option.

Plenty were making out that that team would crush many and it didn't, until the changes were made we were constantly under threat and offered no threat of our own.

He mastered this advanced role in the Championship, but I agree I much prefer King ghosting in as he's so good at doing it especially against muck like Hull.

Haha yeah so I read. That's what a strong performance against a full strength West Ham does for you which again is why i'm not getting too upset about what's happened. If this team can do that then there's no reason to think they're a bunch of no hopers and we've made a huge gaff in putting our faith in them last night. There are a few of these players though that we've paid a lot of money for that it's finely poised whether they'll be success or a flop. Not that it really matters as we'll just blow more money but a bit alarming nonetheless.

Without going through 11 pages, what's the opinion on Dodoo? Personally thought he was poor, often looks like he has no clue what to do with the ball.

So we lost, so some posters wanted a wembley trip, so Dadoo did n t have a good game.

Some posters having not logical but spoilt little brat opinions on Schwarzer..

My major concern, was a team still full with potential 1st teamers, couldnt muscle up a handfull of shots, until latter

part of game. A team with Kramaric, Albrighton, Okazaki, also with not a poor midfield couldnt even manage 3 shots,

then some trolls want to have a dig at Schwarzer.

Vardy , when on missed 3 good chances, but Schwarzer was to blame.

Mahrez, scored 1 goal, but was off the pace, but Schwarzer was the wrong guy.

Banks, Shilton, dived the wrong way 5 times in many shoot outs, but Schwarzer is rubbish.

The defence held out against a top Championship side, Arsenal didnt.

Claudios 2nd team choice, couldnt cut it on the night.

So what..!!

CLAUIO and coaching staff, know more now early in the season, over the squad make up, who teams well together, who

they could throw in as single players.....

Now you experts, compare that with the W.Ham cup win and then work it out....

It takes a particular mentality to win trophies. Sending weakened teams because we're playing a game away at midtable West Brom whilst 5th in the table in October is at the other end of the spectrum. I get what you're saying about us progressing - I don't doubt that for one second, but next year we will more than likely run into a big boy at this stage of the competition and all of a sudden perspective changes.

It is rare to get to this stage of the competition and face a side like Hull. We were lucky to face Hull, lucky that they rested a few as well, lucky to not lose in normal time, and we still lost. It's not good enough. It was a golden opportunity to progress and we blew it, and given the nature of this cup there's a good chance you'll see some more upsets tonight.

At what stage do you take the cup seriously? It's easy to say we're progressing (and we are) but shunning competitions like these pretty much bankers us for having nothing to show for it.

I wish him luck but being brutally honest? I don't think he'll be anywhere near Premier League standard. The one thing I will give him praise for however is that he seems to finish his chances, which is something that can't be said for most of them.

Bit gutted, not normally too bothered by the cup that much but really fancied a run this year.

Sounded like alot of the players who were given chances failed to impress.

Oh well not gonna dwell on it, time to focus on our fantastic league form!

Seen the penalties. Schwarzer far too slow getting down for em.

Too old

Not picking on you in particular but now I'm back and have seen the pens. 5 very good ones from hull and riyad's miss was a foot and a half too high off the ground. Small margins.

Yep ME !!!   Opportunity lost and I'm still pissed about it.

I think Schwarzer's terrible but I don't think the goal was his fault. Decent save and unlucky it dropped straight to their player.

Man City have started with the likes of De Bruyne, Yaya, Kolarov and Bony tonight, all regular starters this season, despite their many commitments. I'm not saying we should have played a full first team, but I swear we are the only Prem team who has changed as many as 10 players in this round. If we'd played Kasper, Huth, Kanté and Mahrez or Vardy from the start last night I'm sure we'd have won.

And playing devils advocate if we'd done that and then gone on to lose on Saturday (Which is a possibility regardless, i'm not saying it's not) then people would be moaning 'why didn't we rest them for the cup game'.

Swings and roundabouts but I made the comments I was quite happy and positive with the team that was named last night pre match so i'm not gonna say it was wrong to make those changes now.

Besides a quick look to me suggest Man Utd have made 9 (Maybe more) changes to their line up at the weekend. And another quick look to me suggests Liverpool have changed the whole team aswell.

Bare in mind Man City are playing a premiership side in Crystal Palace, there have been alot of Prem v Prem fixtures in this round.
