No you're not the only one. It's a horrible Sven type signing, but I don't believe it anyway seeing as Claudio said we would be signing young players. Please don't be true!...all of my CR reservations will come back if we sign players like this. It was this kind of thing that made me worried about CR appointment in the first place.

If we signed him it would be as a replacement for a departing, Inler, who replaced Cambiasso... I very much doubt it would be a case of stock piling old players. More a case of trying to get an experienced head in the squad who has been there and done it... whilst also offering something on the pitch.

We could go out and buy a been there and done it 27 year old... but it will probably cost us £20/£30m + wages. Sometimes older players pay off, sometimes they don't.... it's a cheaper way of adding experience.

I know what you are saying Babs, but I would like a younger player with room for improvement. I'm not so sure we need to add experience anymore. I think we are past that now.

I think if Inler goes CM is one area we do need experience. Drinkwater, Kante, James, King + an older head. If for instance we lost King next season I'd want a younger player to come in, rather than an older one. Just to keep a balance, rather than getting another old player.

I trust the recruitment team, I think they are getting the balance of young to old about right throughout the squad.

I think he could be a decent signing. He has won at least 2 cups if not more, and has experience in the BPL. Has the potential to strengthen the midfield further.

Seems a bit of a 'hot head'; doubt any of our midfielders have conceded as many free-kicks as he has in his career.

Could be really handy closing out tight games. I don't think he's expected to start games. I would imagine he would come here to offer vital experiance & to give us a different option if needed.

fair point. the only time I  can recall us doing that is in the Chelsea game, and it worked a treat.

If we are talking about experienced players to come on late to close out games - Cambiasso!

I wondered how long it would take...

My only surprise is that it wasn't sooner.

Not sure about this one. Great midfielder and crazy to think I would turn my nose up at a signing of his pedigree, but we have such a good atmosphere in the squad, and I know Inler has been disappointing but he does seem to be enjoying himself here still and a good performance in the FA cup could quickly change people's attitudes. De Jong known for being a hothead, probably coming in on big wages and wanting a first team place..  Just not sure it is what our squad needs right now. Pearson and Walsh built this team on character and spirit and Claudio has continued that, De Jong just doesn't seem a good fit to me.

Don't think the recruitment team would sign anyone who would jeapordise the team spirit and togetherness of the squad. For all the good they have done they don't seem to have gained the fans trust on these matters

De Jong is being touted as suiting our style of play...

Has he still got pace, his vision and passing was always excellent from what I remember at Man City.

The 4.5 million euro is total offer with add ons which include making the Champions League apparently only 2 million GBP up front.

I think he'll play in the first team too on a rotation with Kante and Drinks or all three if we play one up front.

He gives us options and a bit of quality, just hope he can handle the pace of our team and still put a shift in.

The Inler experience has left me nervous for this one but De Jong has played in the PL before and done well so that shouldn't be under-estimated. As you say his pace and moving the ball on quickly have been his strongest assets all his career so if he still has that then he'll be far more equipped to establish himself in our set up than Inler whom plays the traditional Italian way.

He's still pacey so i have no concerns on that part of his game.

If he's still got pace he will be a phenomenal signing.

Now just the one issue, I'm not sure he's too keen on the idea yet....

The "pace" of our team is diminishing with no signs yet of any revival though I live in hope.

I can well understand our needing a replacement for inler whose never impressed me even on a good day but whether this guy's the answer I have my doubts.

A big plus about our team at the moment is its discipline. We don't give many daft penalties and free-kicks away.

The more a player loses his pace the more likely he is to be rash. Huth gets exposed for this reason at times and for all that he's a massive presence.

I just hope DeJong can buy into our attitude, but it's a big ask.
