Captain... Posted 1 February 2016 Posted 1 February 2016 Does he improve the squad? No. I'll happily be proved wrong on this one, but I'll be disappointed if this is who we end up with after the circus we've endured in this window. What circus have you endured? I've enjoyed 2 quality young additions to the squad and the fact we have kept all of or stars. Kramaric going on loan means that Gayle/anyone we sign will improve the squad as we have a space for a striker and Gayle is better than nobody. As a back up to Vardy he could be very good his pace is an asset and if we can bring on his finishing, like we did Vardy's then we have a very handy player on our hands.
Grey Fox Posted 1 February 2016 Posted 1 February 2016 I was only winding you up by putting back at top of threads Up the Foxes I see now, must have been the lack of oxygen to my brain.
kingcarr21 Posted 1 February 2016 Posted 1 February 2016 My first thought was this being uninspiring. Now I have had time to think about it I reckon he could flourish here for us. Our style of play could well suit him. If we ended up today with Dwight Gayle then I would welcome him and back him in a City shirt. He may even surprise some of you. Our scouts have pulled some absolute gems lets hope if this happens they have found another one.

Our scouts have pulled some absolute gems lets hope if this happens they have found another one. Palace fans say he is a classic 4-4-2 man. In a 4-2-3-1 he is hit and miss. I, too, was underwhelmed at first but on second thought he might fit in well here.
suffolk fox Posted 1 February 2016 Posted 1 February 2016 We haven't even bid for Gayle so where does this bollox come from? Don't think we will buy anyone today.
Grey Fox Posted 1 February 2016 Posted 1 February 2016 We'll probably end up with Marcus Gayle Gail from Coronation Street if we leave it much longer.
RowlattsFox Posted 1 February 2016 Posted 1 February 2016 Trying to convince myself this will be a decent signing if it happens, the major problem is the price we are going to pay for someone who hasn't scored this season and is deemed not good enough by Crystal Palace. Positives: - you wouldn't think we would rock the squad ethos and should fit in with every one - has decent attributes which could suit our style of play - not going to demand a first time place I wouldn't have thought and might be a decent replacement for Vardy during games - Got something to prove That's about it. Not convinced but it is better than no-one.
Babylon Posted 1 February 2016 Posted 1 February 2016 Does he improve the squad? No. Yes he does, because we need a fourth striker and don't have one. He's not first choice, that's clear... but we need another striker. If the others stay fit he might not be needed, but one or two injuries and we'd be in serious trouble.
KingKante Posted 1 February 2016 Posted 1 February 2016 I think this guy could do a job, abit lightweight but he could be vardys understudy with his pace!

If the others stay fit he might not be needed, but one or two injuries and we'd be in serious trouble. Spot on. We're already banging in the goals, so improving the first 11 is not so much of a priority. We need quality cover for injuries and quality off the bench.
filbertway Posted 1 February 2016 Posted 1 February 2016 Some proper 'loids in the transfer talk section. Thank god Jim will be packing away his yellow tie come 11pm.
ktfox59 Posted 1 February 2016 Posted 1 February 2016 If he can knock in 6-8 goals before the end of the season I would be happy.totally agree. CR says he wants a striker to take the burden off Vards. Well also risk of injury with burn out. This guy could contribute 4 or 5 valuable goals in 15 matches allow Vards some match day rest so he isn't doing 90min every one. Same kind of player in my opinion
Buzzell Posted 1 February 2016 Posted 1 February 2016 Not first choice but he'd be a decent option for us. Obviously prefer Musa or Remy.
thybluefox Posted 1 February 2016 Posted 1 February 2016 Loic Remy will improve our squad but many on here are turning their noses up at him. Palace fans say Gayle will work well in a 4-4-2. He looks lost when playing one up top. I'm all for Remy, especially on a loan. What circus have you endured? Sorry chaps, but on that basis I could argue they should sign me as a 4th striker, because I'd be better than no one? And "circus" may have have been a little over dramatic I'll admint Captain, but I was referring to the last weeks worth of rumour about a new striker. Us being linked to 4 or 5 players, each increasingly less exciting than the other. Like I said in my original post, I'd love to be proved wrong, and will hold my hands up if it turns out that way - but I really can't see Gayle being the player to help us push on a secure a top 4 place, or even the title.

I generally avoid the transfer sub forum and take all rumours with a huge pinch salt, the circus is normally one of our own fans creation. The amount of bullshit rumours that get banded around I just ignore them until it becomes concrete. I trust Claudio and Walsh and if they see Gayle as the back up striker that improves the squad and gives us options to push on then I will be happy with him or whoever they sign (even you). The biggest thing for me is his pace and willing to run in behind chasing balls. Raw pace is something you can't coach and will always be an asset. We'll see in a few hours anyway.
Babylon Posted 1 February 2016 Posted 1 February 2016 Sorry chaps, but on that basis I could argue they should sign me as a 4th striker, because I'd be better than no one? You're not a premier league footballer are you, let alone a professional one... so no you couldn't argue that. Why do you feel like you need to take the example to the extreme to try and prove a point? We currently don't have a fourth choice striker. We can't get our first choices, so the options are as follows: We go without a striker and risk not having backup if we get an injury. Or... we get someone of a of sufficient standard to fill the fourth choice striker role.

For the £9m quoted we'd be better off keeping our money in our pockets. Either bring in someone better than we have or don't bother at all when there is £9m on the line. I'd rather us bite the bullet and knowingly over pay for Musa than spend £9m on someone who won't improve the first team. We'd probably get Gayle on loan at a push anyway.
Guest Col city fan Posted 1 February 2016 Posted 1 February 2016 Just not sure about Gayle. Remy yes..He's quality. But Gayle can't even get into a Palace side who have just signed Adebayor! Just not sure.
VLC86 Posted 1 February 2016 Posted 1 February 2016 Rather have Dorothy Gayle over Dwight Gayle if I'm honest.
Max Power Posted 1 February 2016 Posted 1 February 2016 Don't really rate this guy and he looks weird. £9m to sit on the bench and we'll be back here next year wondering what Championship club we're going to loan him to.
Strokes Posted 1 February 2016 Posted 1 February 2016 I would be well happy with this tbh, he has the potential to get goals and plays a similar style to vardy. Make it happen.
